What Mumsnet users say

ChocOrange1 · Recommended product
I only use barrier cream if they're developing a rash, which is very rarely. We use cloth nappies and use Childs Farm Nappy Cream.

I use cloth nappies and Childs Farm Nappy Cream, only if there's some redness which is very rare actually with using cloth nappies.

Our verdict
  • Ease of use: 5/5

  • Effectiveness: 4/5

  • Value for money: 4.5/5

Lightweight, easy-to-use and soothing for all skin types, Childs farm Nappy Cream is an effective barrier cream that’s suitable for regular use. After applying it on my 23-month-old’s sensitive skin for around two weeks, I noticed that her skin felt softer and smoother at each nappy change, and was happy to see that the Childs Farm Nappy Cream didn’t irritate her skin or cause any eczema flare ups, which she’s prone to.

I also like that this nappy rash cream is easy to apply and doesn’t have a strong scent or leave a white or yellow tint on the skin. However, because it’s more of a barrier cream than a treatment cream, I’d opt for Sudocrem or Metanium over this one for a more severe nappy rash.

At just £4, this nappy cream is good value for money and worth using alongside other barrier creams to prevent and treat nappy rash.

How we tested Childs Farm Nappy Cream

I tested the Childs Farm Nappy Cream out over the course of a week with my 23-month-old toddler, applying it after every nappy change.

To see how it fared against other nappy rash creams, I comparatively tested it with products including Sudocrem, Drapolene Cream, Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream and Metanium. Once testing was complete, I scored the Childs Farm Nappy Cream out of five in three key areas including: ease of use, effectiveness and value for money.

How easy is Childs Farm Nappy Cream to use?

The Childs Farm Nappy Cream is lightweight, so I found it very easy to apply. It’s thinner in consistency than nappy creams like Sudocrem and Metanium, which made it more pleasant to use. It is also fragrance-free, non-oily and requires only a pea-sized amount for every use.

It comes in a 100ml tube, which is light enough to be carried in your changing bag if needed, but unfortunately doesn’t come in a smaller tube for travel.

How effective is Childs Farm Nappy Cream?

I found the Childs Farm Nappy Cream to be more of a barrier cream than a cream to treat severe redness or rashes, so I tended to use it alongside a more effective cream like Sudocrem if ever my toddler’s nappy area was a bit sore.

That said, it contains aloe vera, which is generally very soothing and hydrates the skin well, in addition to natural shea and cocoa butter.

As my daughter is prone to eczema, I am quite cautious as to what I put on her skin. Reassuringly, the Childs Farm Nappy Cream is made of natural ingredients, is cruelty-free (approved by the Vegan Society), and is suitable for all skin types including those prone to eczema.  It’s also ideal for use on other parts of the body including the face, tummy and legs especially if your little one is prone to dry, flaky skin.

Based on the brand’s consumer trial, 97% of parents said that this barrier cream didn’t cause any irritation to the skin.

Is Childs Farm Nappy Cream good value for money?

Absolutely. With an RRP of £4, the Childs Farm Nappy Cream is one of the most affordable nappy creams on the market. While I wouldn’t recommend it as a cream to treat more severe cases of nappy rash - Sudocrem is my go-to here - it is a moisturising and gentle barrier cream that keeps the skin feeling soothed and hydrated.
