What Mumsnet users say

I did a lot of research and the best I found for people with back issues is one called Carifit. It's quite expensive, but I got in touch with the company and explained my situation, and they let me order, try it out and send it back if I didn't like it (I didn't need to in the end - it's perfect).

The Carifit Core builds on the original design of the Carifit+ Baby Carrier with a focus on comfort, fit and ease of use. Marketed as an activewear-inspired baby carrier, it offers a sleek, flexible design that supports natural movement without compromising on safety or structure. It’s ideal for daily walks, errands around the house, shopping trips and light exercise, like lunges and squats - all without the bulk of a heavier, more traditional baby carrier backpack.

The adaptive fit and improved neck support of the Carifit Core makes it easy to find the right position as your baby grows, and the fixed back panel along with the waistband helps to distribute weight evenly to prevent back or shoulder strain.

All Carifit carriers are designed in line with T.I.C.K.S. babywearing safety guidelines, giving extra peace of mind that your baby is held securely and comfortably. The Carifit app, while optional, has also been specifically designed for active parents to follow along with safe workouts that are ideal for the postpartum period.

Our parent tester Tamsi tested the Carifit Core with her eight-month-old for two weeks. She says, “I’m extremely pleased with this carrier for its comfort and secureness. My son likes to face forward now that he’s a bit older. I’ve tried three different carriers from other brands, but this is by far the best in terms of comfort for both of us. I don’t get a backache and my son loves being in the carrier. The ease of putting it on doesn’t compromise on safety either. I like that he’s strapped in securely with no chance of slipping out.”

After the testing phase was complete, Tamsin scored the Carifit Core 95 out of 100, which reflects how supportive and confidence-boosting she found it, especially on longer walks or busy days out. It blends the flexibility of a soft, stretchy carrier with the structure and reassurance of a more traditional design, making it a great choice for parents who want something secure, sporty but simple to use.

The Carifit Core is essentially the upgraded version of the original Carifit+ model, designed to offer a more refined fit for easier day-to-day use. It features new self-locating buckles that make clipping in much quicker, and a redesigned adaptive sizing system that fits a wider range of body types, which is ideal for parents sharing the carrier.

Like the original model, the Carifit Core also uses a premium fly-knit four-way stretch fabric for extra comfort and breathability, while maintaining the sporty, supportive feel Carifit is known for. It’s suitable from newborn up to around 20kg and allows both inward- and outward-facing positions.

In comparison, its predecessor, the Carifit+, is still a great option for active parents and postpartum workouts, with the same supportive structure and breathable materials as the Carifit Core, but without the latest buckle design and sizing updates.

It’s worth noting that the Carifit+ model comes with a longer free app subscription (12 months versus six months with the Carifit Core), which may appeal to those planning to use the fitness and wellbeing content long-term.

Carifit Core Baby Carrier: what’s in the box?

The Carifit Core comes ready to wear straight out of the box, making it simple to start using right away. Inside, you’ll find:

  • The Carifit Core Baby Carrier

  • An instruction manual with clear pictures and a step-by-step guide on how to use the carrier safely

The manual covers guidance on adjusting the carrier for your baby’s age, weight and height, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit from the start.

How easy is the Carifit Core Baby Carrier to assemble?

The Carifit Core is very easy to use as you don’t need to assemble it, thread fabric, tie knots, or attach multiple pieces like you would with some slings and wraps. Simply pop your baby into the carrier and adjust the straps to get the right fit, which is quick and intuitive thanks to the straightforward design and clear strap system.

Tamsin found the process simple and reassuring, saying it felt effortless to put on and adjust, even while holding her son in position with one hand.

If you’re unsure how to wear your baby as safely as possible, Carifit offers a one-to-one virtual fitting session with founder and babywearing expert Vern Hill. He guides you through setting up the carrier, positioning your baby safely and comfortably, and answers any questions you might have.

You can also watch the helpful YouTube clip which shows you exactly how to fit it. This is especially useful if you’re new to babywearing or want tips for handling the stretch-over-the-head front panel with ease.

How does the Carifit Core Baby Carrier look?

The Carifit Core has a sporty, streamlined look with soft, stretchy fabric that feels more like activewear than a traditional baby carrier. Tamsin tested the Leopard Black version and loved that the pattern is subtle but stylish.

The design includes a single over-the-head panel for you and your baby, plus two simple side buckles to secure the fit. There’s also a handy pocket on the waistband strap for essentials like keys or a phone.

It’s available in two unisex shades, Leopard Black and Slate Grey, both of which feel modern, neutral and easy to wear with everyday outfits.

Tamsin says the overall look is “sleek, simple and not bulky at all,” making it a carrier she felt comfortable wearing daily.

Is the Carifit Core Baby Carrier safe and sturdy?

Yes, the Carifit Core feels very sturdy and secure once it’s on. The wide, supportive waistband sits snugly and the flexible fabric holds your baby close without any wobbling or slipping.

Tamsin found that her son stayed firmly in place - seated with his bottom lower than his knees in an “M” position, so his hips were supported and legs could bend naturally at the knees and hips, in line with T.I.C.K.S. guidelines - even during longer walks or light exercise, and never felt like he was shifting around inside the carrier.

Tamsin says, “This carrier is super sturdy and my son doesn’t move when he’s in it. It’s also really easy to get on and off, and my son gets excited when he sees it come out because he knows we’re heading out! The only slight issue is that it messes up my hair every time I put it on or take it off with the panel that goes over my head.”

What’s the Carifit Core Baby Carrier like to use day to day?

The Carifit Core is very straightforward to use and fits easily into a busy routine. Once you’ve mastered the over-the-head panel, it only takes a minute to get your baby in and securely strapped.

The fastening system is designed to be handled solo. Simply hold your baby against you, bring the front panel over your head, then reach around for the side buckle, guide it forward and click it in with one hand. After that, tightening the straps is as easy as pulling them down evenly on both sides.

Another bonus is that the Carifit Core folds down neatly, making it easy to pop into a changing bag or the storage basket of a pushchair without taking up much space. Tamsin says it quickly became her go-to carrier because it’s “easy, supportive and fits into everyday life without any fuss.”

How comfortable is the Carifit Core Baby Carrier?

Tamsin found the Carifit Core extremely comfortable to wear. The wide waistband offers great lower-back support, helping to spread the weight evenly so it doesn’t feel heavy or strain her shoulders.

Tamsin says, “My son feels extremely secure, and I still feel comfortable wearing it. He loves being in this carrier, with others he moaned or looked uncomfortable, but not in this one.”

The carrier’s fabric moves with you as you walk or get things done, making it comfortable for everyday use and longer periods of babywearing. It strikes a good balance between being flexible and supportive, which is especially important when carrying a heavier baby or toddler.

Does the Carifit Core Baby Carrier come with any extras?

No. The Carifit Core doesn’t come with additional physical accessories, but it does include a built-in zip pocket on the lumbar support panel of the waistband. Tamsin found this really useful for quick trips, saying it easily fits a phone, keys and a small purse - ideal when you want to travel light without a changing bag.

Alongside the carrier, you also get access to the Carifit app, which includes expert-led workouts, carrier fitting guidance, and supportive content for the postpartum period. While the app isn’t essential to use the carrier, it’s a helpful extra if you want tailored movement and babywearing support.

Is the Carifit app essential to use?

You don’t need to use the Carifit app to get the full benefit of the Carifit Core Baby Carrier - it functions perfectly well on its own. The carrier is designed to be supportive, ergonomic and comfortable straight out of the box, so you can simply wear it for walks, daily errands or around the house without any app involvement.

That said, the Carifit app is a thoughtful extra that some parents find genuinely helpful. It’s designed to support both physical recovery and confidence after birth, offering short, safe workouts that you can do while wearing your baby. It also includes video guides on how to fit and adjust your carrier properly, along with wellbeing and postnatal fitness advice from experts.

Is the Carifit Core Baby Carrier easy to clean?

While Tamsin didn’t need to clean the carrier during testing, the Carifit Core is designed to be easy to care for. It’s machine-washable at 30 degrees - just clip the buckles together before washing to protect the fabric and hardware, and always air dry afterwards. Avoid the tumble dryer, as heat can affect the stretch and shape of the material.

Is the Carifit Core Baby Carrier good value for money?

Tamsin says it’s well worth the money due to its comfort and sturdiness. “Compared to all other carriers I’ve tried - some at a similar price point - I do think this is superior in terms of price.”

The Carifit Core sits in the same range as top-end carriers like the Ergobaby Omni 360 - usually around £195, so it’s a premium option. What you’re paying for is a more modern, activewear-inspired design, with flexible fabric, adaptive sizing and easy magnetic-style buckles that make it comfortable and simple to use.

Quality-wise, it definitely holds its own next to the Ergobaby, both feel sturdy, supportive and well made. The main difference is in the feel and style: Carifit Core has that sleek, sporty vibe that suits parents who are often on the move, while Ergobaby has a more classic, structured design that’s been a long-time favourite of parents, including Mumsnet users, for all-day wear.

In short, both are excellent carriers, but the Carifit Core feels like a fresher, sportier alternative in the same high-quality bracket.
