Our verdict

We've been using the Banwood Eco Scooter since the Eco range launched in April 2025 and, after more than a year of use by both my four- and five-year-old, it's proved consistently sturdy, reliable and easy to ride.

What stands out most is the build quality. Despite plenty of bumps, scrapes and enthusiastic sharing between my two boys, the scooter still performs brilliantly. The steering remains smooth, the anti-slip deck feels solid underfoot and nothing has loosened or worn prematurely.

It's also very stylish. I've always been a fan of Banwood's aesthetic, and the Deep Sea blue colour looks just as good in person as it does online. Better still, the Eco Scooter has retained that smart appearance despite more than 12 months of regular use. The matching helmet is equally well designed and has also stood up to repeated wear.

Another thing that sets the Eco Scooter apart is its sustainability credentials. It's made from recycled materials including bottles, bags and discarded fishing nets, which makes the product's environmental impact feel more considered without affecting the overall quality.

All in all, this is a premium kids' scooter that's designed to last for years rather than seasons, and I'd happily recommend it to parents looking for an attractive and dependable option for young children. The stable three-wheel design, rear brake and intuitive steering make it particularly good for first-time riders building confidence, while the adjustable handlebars help ensure children won't outgrow it too quickly.

The Banwood Eco Scooter was tested on a variety of surfaces

How we tested the Banwood Eco Scooter

We’ve been using the Banwood Eco Scooter for over a year. It’s been used on a daily basis by both boys - mainly by my youngest, who is four years old. He primarily rides it in our garden on both pavement and grass, but we also venture down country lanes when walking the dog and on trips around our village.

While the school run is a little too far for scooting, the Eco Scooter has been a regular companion on family outings to the village park and pub. When little legs have inevitably tired, I've found it light enough to carry comfortably.

Between uses, the scooter has been stored in our outdoor shed. Although protected from the worst of the weather, it has still been exposed to the usual knocks, scrapes and wear and tear that come with family life across all four seasons.

I've also been able to test the Eco Scooter alongside the Globber ECOlogic to see how it stacks up against a well-established rival.

Banwood Eco Scooter and Globber Ecologic Scooter

The Banwood Eco Scooter versus the Globber ECOlogic

How does it look?

The Banwood Eco Scooter has a premium, minimalist design that feels stylish without being overly flashy. The Deep Sea blue colour I tested is beautiful and has stayed looking smart despite heavy use. The Eco Scooter is also available in Dusty Rose, Faded Pink, Ivory, Lavender, Raspberry, Teal and Olive, giving parents plenty of choice.

I've always liked Banwood's aesthetic and the Eco Scooter fits neatly into the rest of the range. It feels modern and well designed without trying too hard, and I much prefer its muted colour palette to some of the brighter children's scooters on the market.

The deck is wide and streamlined, while the three-wheel design gives the scooter a stable appearance without looking bulky. The comfortable rubber grips are a nice finishing touch and help it feel well made overall.

Compared with other children's scooters we've used, including the Globber ECOlogic Scooter, the Banwood Eco Scooter feels noticeably more substantial. While both models have impressive sustainability credentials, the Banwood feels sturdier and better made, with more premium-feeling materials. Made from 100% recycled plastic, it doesn't feel noticeably different from a traditional scooter and remains reassuringly solid and durable in everyday use.

Banwood Eco scooter parts and tools

The Banwood Eco Scooter is quick and easy to assemble

How easy is the Banwood Eco Scooter to assemble and adjust?

The setup process was refreshingly simple. Very little assembly was required and it took around 15 minutes from unboxing the Eco Scooter to having it ready to ride. The instructions were clear, and attaching and adjusting the handlebars was straightforward, making the whole experience hassle-free.

The adjustable T-bar handlebar can be set to three heights (70cm, 75cm and 80cm), which has allowed the scooter to grow alongside my youngest, who is now nearing five years old. Switching between the different settings takes just a few seconds, making it easy to adapt as children get taller.

Those adjustable height settings also add to the scooter's longevity. I'd say the Eco Scooter is best suited to children aged three to seven, depending on their height and confidence level. Combined with the generous 50kg weight limit, it feels like a scooter that can comfortably last for several years rather than being something children quickly outgrow.

Banwood Eco Scooter deck

The Banwood Eco Scooter has an anti-slip deck and rear brake

How safe and sturdy does it feel?

The Banwood Eco Scooter feels very safe and stable. The three-wheel design gives younger children extra confidence, particularly when they're still learning how to balance and steer. My youngest was three when we first started using it and quickly felt comfortable riding by themselves.

The anti-slip deck provides good grip underfoot and the wheels feel secure on pavements and other smooth surfaces. The rear brake is also intuitive to use, allowing children to stop confidently without needing much practice.

As a mum, I've always felt comfortable letting both my children ride the scooter independently because it feels well balanced and predictable to manoeuvre. Banwood's Easy Ride Steering System makes turning feel smooth and intuitive without being overly sensitive, which helps younger riders stay in control.

Sturdiness is arguably the scooter's biggest strength. After more than a year of regular use by two active young boys, the Eco Scooter still feels remarkably robust. There are some expected cosmetic marks from everyday use, but structurally it remains in excellent condition.

Nothing rattles, loosens or feels flimsy, and the wheels, steering system and deck have all held up well over time. Given how much use it's had, I'm confident it still has plenty of life left in it.

The Banwood Eco Scooter slots seamlessly into everyday family life

What’s the Banwood Eco Scooter like to use day to day?

Day to day, the Banwood Eco Scooter has been incredibly easy for both of my children to use. My youngest was three when we first received it and is now four, while my eldest is five, so we've been able to see how it performs across different stages of development. The low deck makes it easy for younger children to hop on and off independently, while the three-wheel design provides plenty of stability as they build confidence.

The steering feels smooth and intuitive, particularly for younger riders who are still developing their coordination. Neither of my children needed much time to get the hang of it and both quickly became comfortable navigating corners, pavements and playgrounds.

The Eco Scooter performs best on smooth surfaces, where the ride feels controlled and effortless. It copes reasonably well with short stretches of grass too, although rough gravel and uneven ground are more challenging.

What I've appreciated most is how little maintenance it's required. It still rides as smoothly as it did when it first arrived, making it a reliable choice for everyday family life.

Banwood Eco Scooter handlebar

The Banwood Eco Scooter has high-quality, non-slip handlebar grips

How comfortable is the Banwood Eco Scooter to ride?

The Banwood Eco Scooter has been comfortable for both of my children to ride. The rubber handlebar grips are soft and easy for little hands to hold securely, while the deck provides plenty of space for stable footing.

Neither child has ever complained about discomfort while using it, even during longer scooting sessions to the park or on family walks. My youngest, who uses it most often, always looks comfortable while riding. His riding position feels natural and upright, which I think is particularly beneficial for younger children who are still developing their confidence on a scooter.

The matching Banwood Eco Helmet is also lightweight and comfortable to wear. My youngest has happily worn it throughout our testing period without any complaints, although after more than a year of regular use he's now ready to move up to the next size.

How easy is it to carry?

The Banwood Eco Scooter is light enough to carry comfortably when needed, which has been particularly useful for us. We have a gravel driveway leading to our front gate and, while it's not ideal terrain for scooting, the scooter weighs just 2.54kg so it's easy to pick up and carry across.

I've also found it easy to transport on family days out, whether that's lifting it into the car boot or carrying it home when little legs get tired. Despite feeling sturdy and well made, it never feels cumbersome.

The scooter doesn't fold down completely, but the handlebar can be detached quickly using the spring-pin mechanism. While a fully foldable design would be more convenient for some families, I've found the detachable handlebar makes storage and transport straightforward enough, particularly when space is limited.

Does the Banwood Eco Scooter come with any accessories?

The scooter features Banwood's recognisable badge and is compatible with the brand's matching Pin & Ride Basket, although this is sold separately for £19. While I was disappointed not to receive the basket for testing, I think it would make a worthwhile addition for children who enjoy taking small toys or treasures out with them.

We also tested Banwood's Eco Helmet, which complements the scooter nicely and has remained in excellent condition after more than a year of regular use. This retails at £49.

How easy is the Banwood Eco Scooter to store and clean?

Very easy. We store the Eco Scooter in our outdoor shed, and it doesn’t take up too much room. The detachable handlebar helps make storage more convenient. Cleaning is also straightforward - most dirt and mud wipe off easily with a damp cloth.

Is the Banwood Eco Scooter good value for money?

Although the Banwood Eco Scooter retails at £89, I think it offers good value for money. After more than a year of regular use by my two boys, it still rides as smoothly as it did when it first arrived, and the adjustable handlebars help extend its lifespan as children grow.

Compared with the Globber ECOlogic Scooter, which I also tested, the Banwood is more expensive, but it feels noticeably sturdier. Its durability is what really justifies the higher price: while many kids' scooters start to feel wobbly or worn after a season or two, this one has remained reliable and attractive, and I can easily see it being passed down to younger siblings. Combined with its recycled materials and premium finish, it feels like a worthwhile long-term investment rather than a short-term buy.
