Our verdict

If you’re looking for a baby swing that combines soothing motion with a stylish, home-friendly design, the Amana DreamX Electric Swing is a strong option for the newborn stage.

Kate tested it with her new son and found it quickly became part of her everyday routine. She particularly liked how well it settled him, with five smooth swing speeds and a good selection of calming songs helping to gently rock him to sleep. “He always looks so snug in there,” she said, highlighting the comfortable, cocooning seat with its padded newborn insert.

It’s also designed with practicality in mind. Kate found the remote control, timer settings and dual power options made it easy to use around the house, and she liked how the neutral tones and wood-effect base give it a minimalist Scandi feel, so it blends into your home easily without standing out.

There are a few small drawbacks to be aware of. Kate found the Velcro harness could be noisy when trying to lift a sleeping baby out, and the controls took a little time to get used to at first. However, once she was familiar with it, she found it straightforward to use.

Although the DreamX isn't a traditional baby bouncer, it's a well-designed, reliable baby swing that does exactly what most parents need in those early months: it soothes, supports and gives you a safe place to put your baby while you get on with everyday life.

How we tested the Amana DreamX Electric Swing

  • Five weeks of daily use with a five-week-old and an almost two-year-old

  • Used daily as a safe, hands-free space for the newborn while managing life with a toddler

  • Mainly used in one room, but lightweight enough to move around the house if needed, with a lock function for stability

After testing the DreamX Electric Swing, Kate scored it across key criteria including performance, quality and durability, ease of use, value for money, safety and stability, comfort, adjustability and portability. Across these areas, it performed well overall, particularly in terms of soothing ability, comfort and build quality, though ease of use and portability scored slightly lower due to the learning curve with controls and its more stationary setup. After testing was complete, Kate scored the DreamX Electric Swing 90 out of 100, which equates to a five-star rating.

What is the Amana DreamX Electric Swing like to assemble?

Simple! “The swing is easy and straightforward to assemble – it took me about five minutes,” says Kate, which is a big plus when you’ve got a newborn (and possibly a toddler) to juggle.

The setup is simple and doesn’t feel overly fiddly, so you can get it up and running quickly. Kate also found it just as easy to take apart again when needed, particularly for cleaning. “It’s easy to take apart and reassemble,” she adds.

Amana DreamX colours

The Amana DreamX Electric Swing is available in Dune and Pebble Grey

How does the Amana DreamX Electric Swing look?

“The neutral colour (Dune) blends in nicely with my home décor. It isn’t an eyesore like some similar products on the market and isn’t too big, so it fits neatly in the corner of our living room without taking up tons of space,” says Kate.

Overall, it has a clean, modern look that feels a bit nicer than some of the bulkier models out there. The soft, padded seat adds to that, making it look as comfortable as it is practical. During testing, Kate felt that her son always looked settled and well supported in it and described it as having a more “premium” feel compared to other baby bouncers and swings.

The compact size is another plus. While it’s not tiny, it doesn’t take over the room, which makes a big difference when it’s out all day.

Is the Amana DreamX Electric Swing safe and stable?

“Yes! The DreamX overall feels stable and has a smooth, non-jerky swing from side to side,” says Kate, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to settle a newborn. It also offers five adjustable swing speeds, so you can find a setting that suits your baby, whether they prefer a gentler rock or something a little more noticeable. Plus, we like that it has a five-point, Velcro harness and extra newborn inserts so that children don’t move around unnecessarily once strapped in.

She also liked how practical it is to move around the house, with a lock feature to stop the motion when needed. “It is easy enough to move if required and has a lock to stop it from swinging while manoeuvring,” she adds.

The slightly raised seat position is another plus, helping keep baby comfortable while allowing them to look around as they’re gently rocked. Overall, it feels secure and steady in everyday use.

What is the Amana DreamX Electric Swing like to use day-to-day?

“I have used this product most, if not every day with my son since birth and it is perfect to place him when tending to my toddler,” says Kate. “It’s a great place for my baby to have a little look around while still knowing I’m nearby.” “It’s been very useful in soothing him when he seems unsettled during wake windows and the soft music options and gentle, smooth rocking has helped calm him,” she adds.

With five swing speeds, 12 built-in melodies and the option to play your own music via Bluetooth, it’s easy to adjust the settings depending on what your baby responds to. The timer options are useful too, whether you want a short period of soothing or a bit longer to get things done.

The remote control and clear display mean you can tweak settings without interrupting your baby, and the option to use either batteries or mains power makes it flexible around the house.

Is the Amana DreamX Electric Swing easy to clean?

“Yes, it’s very easy to take apart and clean,” says Kate. She found it simple to dismantle, which makes it easy to freshen up without much effort. The removable newborn insert is also easy to take out and wash, which helps keep things feeling clean and hygienic day to day.

It’s also straightforward to put back together afterwards, so cleaning doesn’t feel like a hassle. Overall, it’s low-fuss and easy to keep on top of.

Is the Amana DreamX Electric Swing good value for money?

“Yes, please make an adult-sized version so I can get in myself!” says Kate. “We are currently using the newborn insert but there is plenty of space for the product to grow with my baby and will therefore be able to use it for a while, proving value for money!”

In terms of positioning, the DreamX Electric Swing sits in the mid-to-premium range, but Kate felt the longevity and features helped justify the cost, especially given how much she has used it day-to-day with her son.

For comparison, the Stokke Yoga Baby Bouncer & Swing sits at the higher end of the market at around £249. While it offers a premium, design-led feel and is built with ergonomic movement developed alongside physiotherapists, Helina felt the price was on the steep side for how long it might realistically be used, suggesting she would expect to pay closer to £150.

Against that, the DreamX offers a strong set of features including multiple swing speeds, Bluetooth connectivity, timer settings and a newborn insert, which help it feel well-equipped for everyday use and good value over time. However, it’s worth noting that the DreamX doesn’t have a bounce/vibration function.
