Gender critical age ranges

Just curious what the general age range here. I'm 31 and I'm gender critical. But there seems to be a belief that all gender critical people are much older such as 50's and later. I know that's not necessarily true, there's nothing wrong with being an experienced person after all! But I am feeling curious. Probably doesn't help that I haven't met any in person.

No need to give exact age of you are not comfortable. You can just say late 20's or early 40's if you would like.

So what is the general age range here or of curiosity?

I started properly paying attention to the gender nonsense when I was about 34/35. I'm 39 now.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/01/2023 07:03

I'm 32

My partner is the same age and agrees as do most of my friends aged between 30 and 43.

Oh and I was a teacher throughout the noughties in very diverse areas - a genuine cross-section of society. This never, ever came up. I started a thread about this a little while ago and it seemed that the wave of trans teens began in about 2017.

I was regularly reading the MN feminism board in my late thirties and early forties. It took me a while to ‘get’ why this new issue mattered - it wasn’t helped by some of the acronyms/shorthand references in use on here, which initially seemed impenetrable. Plus I had some personal issues going on at the time, so steered clear for a while as I was reading/thinking about that topic. By my mid forties light had dawned and I was fully peaked. Now mid/late forties.

Late 50s too. All these deluded young women who don't think the biological reality of the menopause will happen to them. Therefore biology doesn't matter. All these creepy men my age who never want to identify into the biological reality of being a woman my age.
A lifetime of being gender non-conforming and left leaning and getting called a "bigot" a "Karen" and a "pearl clutcher".
I'm glad to see younger women realising gender ideology is a problem for all women but I don't need to be validated by them.

TheMarzipanDildo · 16/01/2023 06:32

I’m 23

Mid 40s.

Never believed changing sex was possible or real, or even appropriate, from age 5 when a classmate was bullied for playing in the home corner and wished he was a girl as a result. We loved the fact he played there and tried to console him.

In over 20 years of teaching, only had one extreme gender non conforming child, but that was handled well as he was happy in his body. It was the adults who needed reassuring!

But that was before the crazy that occurs now - which I only learned about via mumsnet / I am Spartacus threads and then fwr thereafter, 5/6 years ago.

I've seen the word 'misogyny' laughed at by TRAs. And the rise of the 'Karen' and 'don't be a Karen' narrative is so fucking familiar.

I always thought the Karen thing was annoyingly hypocritical.

Late 50s. I've never had any time for style gangs or being told what to think. When i first became aware.of trans stuff, I was 'live and let live' about it. I still would be if it was just about clothes. I work in a school and have to be very careful about what I say, which is increasingly difficult.

edgeware · 16/01/2023 05:51

51, I've always thought gender was bollocks. I was radicalised by MN about 5 years ago when it became apparent that the trans rights movement was repackaged misogyny and nothing but total capitulation to any and every demand would be enough.

I thought I'd mellowed with age but have found my patience for bullshit is in short supply and there are days when I'm fucking raging about this.

Agreed. You put it so perfectly. It's just misogyny repackaged! I sort of laughed at how you said you've been radicalized. Though I guess we are considered radical... But it doesn't FEEL radical... It just feels... Normal...?

50s, but have always been what would now be called “non gender conforming”.

Fuck that. I’ve been me, doing stuff. No gender identity required.

Makegoodchoices · 16/01/2023 00:14

Mid 40s - recently discussed with various friends of same age (very cautiously) and all felt the same but with varying degrees of understanding of issues.

I think that becoming a mother opens people’s eyes to patriarchy in a new way, as it changes so many dynamics and relationships. Particularly for working mothers. This is just yet another strand.

I'm 34, range of view amongst my friends of different ages, and it's not always the older ones who are GC.

Late forties, would have been of the same opinion at any age. My two teens also think gender woo is total bollocks.

My teens are sporty girls are in no doubt where it would leave them for a male of the same age to decide he was going to race against them.

They're more anxious than me about causing offence as they are put under so much pressure at school to police their language and use approved terms etc.

So they're GC/grounded in reality (also grappling with bras and periods and how to manage changing, swimming etc, they've v aware of their biology and who that impacts) but there's no way they could say so out loud.

Mid thirties.
Believe everyone should be able to express themselves how they like (clothes, hobbies, name, even pronouns really) but biological sex is real and is important in many situations such as sport, safety and dignity.

Same but early 30s

xbluefairytale · 15/01/2023 20:43

buckeejit · 15/01/2023 20:30
