Gender critical age ranges

Just curious what the general age range here. I'm 31 and I'm gender critical. But there seems to be a belief that all gender critical people are much older such as 50's and later. I know that's not necessarily true, there's nothing wrong with being an experienced person after all! But I am feeling curious. Probably doesn't help that I haven't met any in person.

No need to give exact age of you are not comfortable. You can just say late 20's or early 40's if you would like.

So what is the general age range here or of curiosity?

  1. Staunch second wave feminist and GC.

DH is bothered about tortured souls and gets upset if I try and talk about trans issues. Though I have hope, he chortled the other day about a story from DSiL about two evidently male ladeez behaving in an unladylike manner.

What gets me down amongst friends my age is that we don’t talk about the trans issues. I think there’s a fear of discord and unwillingness to risk strife as we become older and more vulnerable. It’s also harder to find an opportunity to get together 1-1 and then try to put out feelers. Those who are GC leaning probably think I have a bee in my bonnet.

I'm 51. DS and his mate are 17 and both are GC

Gender is the assumptions people/society hold about a person's behaviour, character, skills, preferences etc based solely on their perceived sex.

I'm baffled as to how anyone isn't critical of those assumptions. But I guess lots of people hold assumptions about all sorts of groups of people with shared characteristics.

LGBT supportive. Not gender critical or "TERF"

So, why bother responding if you don't fit the profile that information was requested from?

Are you just trolling?

We moved to the US and pretty much all of my children’s teachers have pronouns on their email, and pride flags and pronoun posters in the classrooms. It’s relentless.

When they started new years in their elementary school, they do a poster. That’s kind of the “all about me“ thing. Part of it was having to put their pronouns on there too. FGS.

48 - became aware of the rise of queer theory and belief in gender about 10 years ago. My sons are 14 and 15 and, whilst not feeling any wish to campaign about it, feel the same way.

lochmaree · 11/10/2023 20:37

30

MissDiagnosed · 11/10/2023 20:37

Late 40s, peaked 3-4yrs ago
DH, 51 and DPs, mid 70s all GC
DD 19 is (privately) GC; DD 17 was vocally the opposite but am sensing a quiet shift.
Don't have any friends with whom I have explored this (late 30s to late 50s) who are not GC.

Redhothoochycoocher · 11/10/2023 20:34

35 but been GC since about 28

While I can't say I know anyone my age who is critical of gender ideology from a radical feminist perspective (I know a couple of older women who are), I know LOADS who take issue with the ludicrous premises of some of the arguments, or the encroachment on free speech, or the hugely disproportionate amount of attention afforded to "the most marginalised people" in society.

Outwiththenorm · 11/10/2023 19:43

Early 40s.

MsNeis · 11/10/2023 19:42

Early 30s

Edited to add my (super small) GC circle: sister (30), mum and dad (early 60s), husband (early 30s), mom-friend (early 40s)

RebelliousCow · 11/10/2023 17:18

I'm 58.....and have always known what a woman is. I had my first child at 19, and she is now 38 and also GC and actively so.

I spent my 20's really getting into what I would call body centred 'goddess feminism'. Women are adult human females, and I'm profoundly insulted that anyone might suggest that a woman is just a feeling or an idea in someone's head - rather than an embodied reality.

ArabellaScott · 11/10/2023 17:15

I feel about this old.

Mid 20s. I was never fully comfortable with TWAW as a student but I tried my best to convince myself into it. I've always been a political moderate and I didn't want to be alienated from my social circles. It's only in recent years that I've realised my group of nerdy TWAW friends was only pro woman on the very surface. Misogyny is still rife in those hobbies but they just hide it better.

Freda69 · 11/10/2023 17:00

69 and a biochemist so completely GC. As I’m retired, and my grandson wasn’t at school, I didn’t really realise what was going on until a couple of years ago when I was in hospital and the nurses were talking about how worried they were about their female patients. I’ve been assaulted more than once so I’m very concerned about biological males in my loos and hospital wards (frequent NHS flyer).
However, I have hope because my 33 year old gay son and his partner are GC and keep recommending me podcasts I should listen to. My husband is also a scientist so has the same views.

I suspect many people my age really aren’t up to speed on gender nonsense and a male friend of mine said he didn’t understand it and wasn’t interested! I suspect he might be when it affects his wife or female relatives.

Orangedoll · 11/10/2023 16:15

51

But I never believed any of it. I remember reading an article about a sex change in my Nan’s “Woman’s Own” when I was 10, and even then I thought the evidence for being born in the wrong body sounded ludicrous and based on outdated stereotypes.

Crunchingleaf · 11/10/2023 16:10

I am in my 30’s. I honestly didn’t pay much attention for a long time. First thing that made me think was how the media started saying JKR was transphobic as if it was fact. I tried to find out what she said and became GC.
I think the thing that cemented it was I was finding that all of a sudden the language around womanhood and their experiences was being changed and I found it jarring.

DogsAkimbo · 11/10/2023 16:02

Late 40s, and I know nobody in real life I can talk to this about. They are all ‘born in the wrong body’, ‘trans women are women’, ‘my nephew is now a niece, so brave’ blah blah blah. I’ve had to fill out a dyslexia assessment form for my son this week. And there are mandatory fields to fill-in about sex assigned at birth, gender, pronouns etc. I was about to text my friend to complain and then I realised I couldn’t.

I think the perception that it’s older women, is probably because we were some of the first to speak out. And also society loves to demonise us. You know, the whole Karen thing.

AJNorthWest · 11/10/2023 15:58

Late 20's

ElfHasBeenSilly · 17/01/2023 21:52

Been GC since 2017, so since I was 21/22

ElfHasBeenSilly · 17/01/2023 21:52

I’m 27

DuesToTheDirt · 17/01/2023 18:03

Mid 50s and I'm GC.

DH, who is also mid-50s, thinks TWAW and even used that ridiculous phrase "assigned at birth".🙄
