Columbine copycat in Edinburgh - what does 'transgender' mean in reporting?

The reporting on the BBC has been very clear that he is a boy, but also says that he is transgender. Is this a male who they are calling male, or an FTM?

Agree I think this is a biological female and again wondered about the role of testosterone. It is extremely worrying and how health professionals can't see that this stems from trauma / abuse / deep unhappiness I don't know. It's bloody obvious, we've collectively lost our minds.

Wonder if the potential murderer is male and the outcome of being trans is that they'll say they can't place him in the standard male prison? Doesn't say how long ago they realised they were trans either (when caught?).

I just read this and thought the same.

I think, going by usual BBC reporting, she's female but of course you can't be sure.

It's worrying as there seems to be a spate of transmen and female nonbinary girls getting involved in planning or carrying out these sorts of attacks. I worry about what they're getting involved in online and the role of toxic masculinity and testosterone.

At 17 you would hope that she hadn't been exposed to testosterone yet but it's not guaranteed.

Given the BBC's usual stance, this must be a girl identifying as a boy.

Ms McCall KC told the court: "This is a vulnerable young person. He has mental health difficulties.
"He is a transgender person - that would need to be taken into account."

Why the hell should his (or her?) transgender identity be taken into account when assessing or prosecuting this case?

I think "taken into account" relates to being put in a "secure unit for young people" which is what the judge has done (revoked bail). Big concerns putting a female into a male facility. And frankly putting this person into a female facility!

Plasmodesmata · 21/02/2025 18:35

I think female, purely because the BBC are saying "boy". Like Dues I was wondering what possible bearing a transgender identity should have on sentencing. If it's to make it more lenient everyone is going to want one.

I think it's a female, mainly from the hyper masculine behaviours (destroy! Rage!) and description of their appearance which sounds masculine.
Also the BBC s insistence at using 'boy' at every opportunity because they're massive gender zealots.

What a time to be alive! Analysing the sex of offenders through shitty, vague clues on a BBC article!

You wonder if this total fantasist would have ever done anything but mouth off online, but im glad it's been addressed for the sake of the staff & pupils at the school.

No I won't start a thread because I see this is already covered here! Smile

I found it interesting that the BBC item I read on the news site published today refers to Jack Lasota as 'a transgender woman' and says she/her throughout, but Lasota isn't exactly offending in a typically female pattern ... yet the BBC photos are (police in origin, I think) pretty obviously of a male.

Anyway, this is all covered over here, and here's the BBC news item I read. Sorry for the thread derail, OP.

I just read this article and raced over here to see if there was a thread.

Concerning that it seems this person was allowed to go to college while being investigated for a school mass shooting/terrorism plot: " The court heard a more recent concern was flagged up by the college the boy now attends of him allegedly remarking that he was "annoyed at getting caught"

I think the person is a biological female.

GlomOfNit · 21/02/2025 18:00

sorry, should say this is a group of cultist young people in the US. Just read about it on BBC news, there is a lot out there and it just gets weirder and weirder...

GlomOfNit · 21/02/2025 18:00

I don't know, because I've just read a BBC article about a very bizarre group of disaffected 'cultist' young people which describes one of the main figures as a 'transgender woman' and what does that actually mean??

(I am being disingenuous - I know this is current BBC coding/lax writing for 'biological man who identifies as trans and thinks he's a woman' but someone less steeped in the lingo would be forgiven for wondering what the hell it meant - a biological woman who IDs as a man? A transwoman? A female person who feels they are 'fluid'? etc)

I'm actually going to start another thread about this one because it is freaking weird.

I don't know, but I'd be interested to know how many school shootings have ever been carried out by natal born girls.

I think one of the recent American ones was. She was trans identified.
