Its all self id already.

There's a two year wait for a change of birth certificate, but all other id can be changed immediately and, as others have pointed out, organisations dont tend to differentiate between trans people with or without a GRC.

The GRC process relies on the diagnosis process being robust. But there's no information about this - how many fail to get a diagnosis, for example.

Im please labour seems to be getting cold feet about modernising the process, but keeping the current system isnt good enough. Jess phillips should understand this as safeguarding lead.

Thanks for the link op. If this is correct then, regardless of what their motives are, I am delighted for women.

It's more the rest of them, though. At least Streeting has spoken clearly, and taken action where he can. But plenty in Labour won't let go of genderwoo.

Blimey. I wonder which one it is: he's had a Damascene conversion to reality, or he's seen the way that the wind's blowing and where that might take his career?

Both can be true. Encouraging if it's now recognised that genderwoo is the unpopular choice, and not the side of history that wins elections.

I suspect the latter more so.... and because he has a political brain.

And the fact that it's not some Damascene conversion, but rather panic, and fear of Farage.

I posted before reading this, but we've clearly had the same thought! 😂

"Streeting said at the weekend that the NHS must get “back to basics” rather than focusing on “daft nonsense”. He wrote in The Sun on Sunday: “How is it that the value of equality became so distorted that one member of NHS staff, tweeting a job ad, described part of her practice as ‘anti-whiteness’?
“How is it that, in the name of inclusion, the word “woman” has been erased from many NHS documents?”

I recall many posts pre GE with people adamant that Starmer would keep men out of women's changing rooms

How come we're seeing the current tribunal

I believe that’s from things that started in 2023. It takes ages for things to get to court

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/02/2025 19:15

My problem with this is that self ID basically already exists because organisations aren't asking for GRCs. My workplace celebrated this month's theme (LGBT history, IIRC) by reminding all staff that we can use facilities which match our gender identity.

and this is 100% the problem. Stonewall has told pretty much every public body and institution and every large corporate organisation that legally they have to jet men use women’s facilities & that they should be treated in every way as a woman

this will take years and many more court cases to root out

Excellent news.

I say, let them have GRCs for free, complete with a picture of a rainbow and space for some glitter. But change the law so 'woman' definitely just refers to 'adult human female' and, instead of 'allowing' single sex exemptions, list the spaces you'd expect should be that (toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons, support groups, etc). Mixed sex facilities can be given in addition rather than instead of.

While I don't have a problem with GRCs, it shouldn't be possible to falsify birth certificates.

Helleofabore · 09/02/2025 18:52

How interesting. Bit by bit they are effectively leaving the changes by the last government in place.

To me, it shows that this really is an issue that crosses the aisle of politics.

boobleblingo · 09/02/2025 18:43

Conversion therapy ban still going ahead, but no more self-id by the back door
