Copied and pasted below:

"This 'why do you care about a tiny fraction of the population?' line is, and always was, utterly ridiculous.

Gender ideology has undermined freedom of speech, scientific truth, gay rights, and women's and girls' safety, privacy and dignity. It's also caused irreparable physical damage to vulnerable kids.

Nobody voted for it, the vast majority of people disagree with it, yet it has been imposed, top down, by politicians, healthcare bodies, academia, sections of the media, celebrities and even the police. Its activists have threatened and enacted violence on those who've dared oppose it. People have been defamed and discriminated against for questioning it. Jobs have been lost and lives have been ruined, all for the crime of knowing that sex is real and matters.

When the smoke clears, it will be only too evident that this was never about a so-called vulnerable minority, notwithstanding the fact that some very vulnerable people have been harmed. The power dynamics underpinning our society have been reinforced, not dismantled. The loudest voices throughout this entire fiasco have been people insulated from consequences by their wealth and/or status. They aren't likely to find themselves locked in a prison cell with a 6'4" rapist who's decided his name's now Dolores. They don't need state-funded rape crisis centres, nor do they ever frequent high street changing rooms. They simper from talk show sofas about those nasty far-right bigots who don't want penises swinging around the girls' showers, secure in the knowledge that their private pool remains the safe place it always was.

Those who've benefited most from gender identity ideology are men, both trans-identified and not. Some have been rewarded for having a cross-dressing kink by access to all spaces previously reserved for women. Others have parlayed their delicious new victim status into an excuse to threaten, assault and harass women. Non-trans-identified leftybros have found a magnificent platform from which to display their own impeccably progressive credentials, by jeering and sneering at the needs of women and girls, all while patting themselves on the back for giving away rights that aren't theirs.

The actual victims in this mess have been women and children, especially the most vulnerable, gay people who've resisted the movement and paid a horrible price, and regular people working in environments where one misplaced pronoun could see you vilified or constructively dismissed. Do not tell me this is about a tiny minority. This movement has impacted society in disastrous ways, and if you had any sense, you'd be quietly deleting every trace of activist mantras, ad hominem attacks, false equivalence and circular arguments from your X feeds, because the day is fast approaching when you'll want to pretend you always saw through the craziness and never believed it for a second."

Many of us suspected that JKR had similar views to us before she said anything (she's a brilliant, clever, witty woman. Why wouldn't she!) but I can't express enough just how grateful I am that she spoke out.

The TAs don't have anywhere near an equivalent of her. And it really pisses them off!

The right to not have men get naked in front of them? The right to deal with the 'joys' of the female body without a man watching/listening? The right to sleep with fear of being watched? The right to sleep without the sounds and smells of a strange man in the (very small) room?
I mean obviously this is a big ask because the man in question probably isn't a rapist and might own pink leggings and a lipstick.

I think the right not to live in fear of rape might count as "dignity" too. Having anyone male in a women's prison conflicts irresolvably with that right.

  1. No person can be sure what another is thinking because all outward signs can be faked in a process known as "lying". A class of professional liars exists within many societies: in English, we call them "actors".
  2. Anyone with a penis has the anatomy to commit a rape.
  3. Anyone born with a penis should be presumed to still have one because they have the right to medical privacy from their cellmates.
  4. The corollary to (1) and (2) is that no woman can ever be sure that a particular man won't rape her, given the opportunity, because she's not inside his head. If she thinks she's sure, she's kidding herself. The Relationships board is full of women whose own husbands have raped them. Also, Gisèle Pelicot was married for decades and didn't realise what her husband was doing to her.
  5. The corollary to (4) is that to force a woman to share a cell, shower, or loo with a man is to not only put her at risk of rape but to subject her to the fear of rape.
  6. The corollary to (3) and (5) is that the man claiming to be a "transwoman", even taking exogenous oestrogen and having a penectomy, does not eliminate the fear of rape that women will justifiably feel if they are imprisoned with him.
popefully · 06/02/2025 23:11

Even if none of the male violence and homophobia that the TRAs cheer on ever existed, changing the definition of "man" and "woman" was always going to affect everyone, not just a minority!

healthybychristmas · 06/02/2025 22:48

She is absolutely brilliant. It's so hardening to know that she is there and she is willing to speak up and able to do so in such a magnificent way.

A fantastic post from her. So glad she's prepared to ignore all the threats of violence that come her way from transactivists. So many good points but this last para really nails it:

What a shame that so many of those mantras, attacks, false equivalents and circular arguments have been screenshotted and saved for posterity 😆

DeanElderberry · 06/02/2025 21:15

The woman who talked to Paddy O'Gorman about her experiences in Limerick Prison did not have to share a cell with transwomen, but identified problems with the transwomen in adjacent cells using foul language to intimidate women, and said that the fear of transwomen tracking them down after release made her afraid to talk to other women in the prison about her life, her home, her family, and particularly her children. She also identified the fact that she would be punished (by not being moved to a more open prison environment) if she spoke the truth, and said that they were men.

So the presence of the transwomen in the women's prison meant a loss of free association, a loss of freedom from fear and a loss of access to education and counselling for the women prisoners.

That is without what the prison staff had to put up with, or the social worker getting her eyelid ripped off with a fingernail.

I must admit to wondering whether JKR had a hand in writing Trump's EO on dismantling the gender woo crap.

Meghan Murphy has interviewed Kara Dansky and, separately, May Mailman on her The Same Drugs podcast in the last fortnight. Both interviews were excellent.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/02/2025 20:51

It would indeed.

The right not to be humiliated and to be treated with respect.

This would include the right not to be deployed as NPCs to validate men's special gender feelz, yes? Non-player characters aren't people, they are story props.

At this point I realise that I'm not actually sure what is meant by that in the context of women's rights, other than "the right not to be naked in front of men".

And not even that’s a given these days. Such has been the determined assault on women’s rights by the MRAs.

Brilliant tweet by JKR, as ever.

And while rape stats are horrendous in terms of both reporting and conviction rape is not the only reason for keeping men out of women's prisons. Violence, intimidation, voyeurism, safety, dignity are all very good reasons for female only spaces. It's really not OK to say as long as we are moderately confident this bloke hasn't raped anyone he can be locked in a cell with a woman.

I always think of the artwork "The Castle" by Jorge Mendez Blake - a single book by Kafka, placed in the bottom of a brick wall that then disrupts the placement of all the other bricks.

In the UK, being a trans woman isn't an automatic qualifier for criminals to be sent to a women's prison, it is decided by the prison system on a case by case basis.

Given the grotesque underreporting of rape and low conviction rate, it's safe to assume that any man, regardless of his feelings about being a man, might be a rapist, and keep all men out of women's prisons.

A man calling himself Delores can be a rapist without ever seeing the inside of a courtroom for his rapes.

It's just the same speculation, manipulation and tropes she's said over and over for years on end now.

"Gender ideology has undermined freedom of ...gay rights..."

Any gay bar, pride event and almost all gay rights charities (excluding the handful of ones funded by Rowling that propped up in the past couple of years which are specifically gender critical) the length of the country are fully supportive and inclusive of trans people and their rights.

"People have been defamed and discriminated against for questioning it."

Didn't Graham Linehan, known for his views on the topic, lose a court case just yesterday against a gay actor after a judge ruled Graham's statements were "defamation on common law".

"The actual victims in this mess have been ...gay people ..."

This is just manipulation. As stated above, go to any gay bar and you will find it and everyone in it supportive of trans people and their rights. A gay actor as mentioned also just sued and won a defamation case against Graham Linehan. Turns out there are laws after all against throwing around unfounded accusations against people who are gay or trans.

"They aren't likely to find themselves locked in a prison cell with a 6'4" rapist who's decided his name's now Dolores."

In the UK, being a trans woman isn't an automatic qualifier for criminals to be sent to a women's prison, it is decided by the prison system on a case by case basis. Violent or sexual crimes or anyone who says they are trans after being sentenced for example wouldn't qualify.

Before anyone mentions the rapist Isla, it's worth pointing out some context the tabloids missed out on. She wasn't sent to a woman's prison to serve her sentence, she was only sent to one on remand while the decision on where to send her was made and in that time she was in solitary.

"Some have been rewarded for having a cross-dressing kink by access to all spaces previously reserved for women"

A harmful trope that trans women "just have a cross-dressing kink". This only stirs up hate that can lead to trans women being hurt (and often, many are assaulted or murdered).

You've been directed to the SPS policy and the comments by James Morton of the Scottish Trans Alliance (which was one of the main drivers of the SPS policy) so many times that I've lost count.

The SPS had to forced to (slightly) modify their before the law self id policy to not continue to allow violent male sex offenders to be placed in the female prison estate (but violent non sex offenders, including murderers is still a-OK) through sheer public disbelief and outrage. The SPS continue to be a disgrace.

As a pp said, the gig is up. Your grift is done. You have zero credibility.

I love her!

I dread to think where we'd be without her because unlike the other brave individuals who have tried to take this on, she's uncancellable.

She recognised that and that she had a responsibility to use it. But it has still come at great cost to her.

She just continues to calmly reason sense it is difficult to ignore.

Do you have the stats to back up that claim? I've not heard of a murder spree targeting 'trans' IDing individuals.

I have no stats at all but i'd bet that male on male violence levels are pretty much the same regardless of whether trans is involved... and male on female violence will still be vastly higher than female on male. This would be using real actual sex based numbers and not counting men in dresses as women.
