Mr trump isn't doing this because he cares about people or cares about women's rights.
He's doing it because it's something that his base cares about and he knows it's a way to manipulate and control them, to work things to his advantage.
Mr trump cares only about amassing power and wealth for himself.

It’s more than Biden done.

Seriously? There are no attempts to roll these things back YET. He's only been in power a day! Plenty of his support base want him to so I fully expect attacks on LGB rights and feminist protectsions to come with time.

The biggest threat to women's lives is men. Not trans people.

Quite, so keeping men (ie transwomen) out of spaces where women are undressed or otherwise vulnerable is a great step forward

TheCatsTongue · 21/01/2025 14:30

A common tactic of TRAs is to present themselves as feminists and that the advancement of women's rights can only be gained via more rights to trans women. Thus they present a restriction on trans rights as a restriction of women's rights.

The fact that the most powerful man on the planet can that there are only two genders (yes, I know gender vs sex etc), and in the UK Starmer couldn't even bring himself to say that women don't have penises speaks volumes about this issue. Silence has been akin to violence.

People will not be cowered to state biological fact now.

Grammarnut · 21/01/2025 14:29

That's pretty comprehensive. Well done.

Yes exactly. There is another way:
deadwildroses.com/2019/10/07/handy-venn-diagrams-the-radical-feminist-position-on-gender/

The problem with American politics (and the enormous influence of American culture in the UK) is that they only offer two options. Both options centre around a belief in innate gender stereotypes:

Either you ensure your personality fits the stereotypes associated with your sex (ranging from relatively mild traditional sexism; through Trump; religious nutjobs prohibiting abortion and homosexuality; to extremists keeping women enslaved indoors and silent)

Or

You declare that your sex changes to match your personality (ranging from gay men / lesbian girls attempting to escape deep rooted homophobia; through fetishist males seizing the opportunity to gain cultural capital and oppression points in an era where "straight white males" are supposed to be checking their privilege; to outright abusers claiming a special identity to access vulnerable women or children / avoid male jail).

Both these positions serve the patriarchy. If the first group would see it's women kept at home for use by their husbands, the second would demand the use of women's bodies for validation in sharing spaces, sex work and surrogacy.

If you had a kid in America who was autistic or gay or even simply non conforming, I can understand why in the very immediate term Trump might feel the safer option. In the vanishingly short years of adolescence, a child's future health can be destroyed if they're unlucky enough to be influenced by adults with a fervent belief in gender ideology.

Obviously Trump doesn't give a shit about women. He changed his position on trans rights to "reality" when he saw which way the wind was blowing.

I agree with this.

I do however despite that think the executive order itself is a good thing because it keeps its remit very tightly to undoing any legal right for gender identity to take the place of sex and does not attempt to tie this to any other socially conservative aim.

Existing as a standalone order rather than a combined one that ties together sex realism with undesireable outcomes like rolling back LGB and anti-sexism legislation will mean it is possible for gender critical people to fight against those pieces when they come without risking undoing the genderism rollback.

Brefugee · 21/01/2025 14:27

What happens to people who have transitioned now? Is there a GRCequivalent in the states? will they be recinded?
Assuming they do and that the same proportion of people who hold one have reassignment surgery as do in the UK (15% i think?) What happens to those people?

Must check out what Blaire White and Buck Angel are saying about this.

Apollo441 · 21/01/2025 14:23

Transwomen are male. They commit sex crimes at the same rate (if not more) as other males.
They are not a sacred cast who bypass safeguarding.

Also, accepting that some people believe in gender fluidity doesn't mean that some people get impunity when committing crimes. They still get convicted.

I worry it will actually make things worse because the UK government won't want to be seen doing anything Trump-like.

Well, that's all right, the Labour party can do something Democrat-like and lose the next general election, then, can't they?

I wonder what impact (I won't say 'if any', it'll be one way or the other) this will have on the UK?

The biggest threat to women's lives is men
@Ppzd I agree completely- obviously 'men' includes those men who choose to call themselves women!

EasternStandard · 21/01/2025 14:23

Yes it looks like the end for gender ideology

Perhaps only in the US but I wouldn't be surprised if we see it spread

Male people. Whether trans or not. It's the maleness that's the issue here.

This stops the rape of women in prisons, this stops children being butchered and indoctrinated, this protects women’s sports and safe spaces etc.
It doesn’t matter this law was introduced by Trump or Lucifer, this measure is putting an end to serious harm to women’s existence, that’s what matters.
Doesn’t mean either all wars against women’s rights have been won or that Trump is a women’s ally, but this is and will stay a good law, so I rejoice.

Sorry it melts the identity politics brains who can only see pure heroes and true evil, idolise or cancel, but it’s not like that in real life.

The biggest threat to women's lives is men. Not trans people.

Greyskybluesky · 21/01/2025 14:15

Chersfrozenface · 21/01/2025 14:14

Well, wouldn't it have been a spiffing idea for the Democrats to have cottoned on that sex realism wins votes and gains trust, and that genderism loses them?

Then they could be getting to their ultimate goals.
