Remember all the scaremongering last time Trump was elected? And then…nothing happened.

i don’t like the guy or what he stands for but tbh errs literally no evidence some of the wilder claims of what he’s going to do, on here, are likely to come to fruition.

I believe there will be attacks on LGB rights and protections and I believe there will be attacks on women's rights and protections. I believe this will be done under the guise of "rolling back undemocratic DEI" and "keeping politics out of schools".

I disagree. I certainly hope you're wrong! I don't think there will be further attacks simply because, whatever you think of Trump, he is not an idealogue. That's why he's not a 'fascist', for example. Trump's attitude is, whatever works for me in the short-term. Don't forget, he was a supporter of the Democrat Party at one time. Right now this EO is popular and he knows it. An easy win with the electorate, popular with men and women across the country.

You can hope as much as you like, it doesn't change the fact that Trump has made it very clear he will attack women's and LGB rights, and certainly will do nothing to restore the rights that were taken away after Roe v Wade was overturned.

What has TikTok got to do with the price of tomatoes here? In fact, the TikTok thing was a given: it would not surprise me if many of Trump's supporters are TikTok entrepreneurs who stood to lose their livelihood by the ban. That aside, nothing has appeared yet that looks anything like a ban on LGB or women's rights (and remember that abortion rights are the responsibility of states now, so Trump cannot do much about them).

That's not true - there can stll be a federal ban. And if not that, then other restrictions - like federal laws against crossing state lines for the purpose, federal laws against medical personnel operating on anyone out of state, federal laws against fund-raising for organisations like Planned Parenthood etc

unmemorableusername · 21/01/2025 15:22

Yes I think we're over the top of the bell curve now.

CinnamonStick77 · 21/01/2025 15:22

@Grammarnut you only have to pay attention to what Trump et al say to realise that they are coming for women's rights. Musk is obsessed with the birth rate and increasing it, it's only a matter of time.

Phthia · 21/01/2025 15:21

Knowitall69 · 21/01/2025 12:48

Right now, I love Trump.

You love someone who is going to support the removal of women's rights over their own bodies?

Donttellempike · 21/01/2025 15:21

Grammarnut · 21/01/2025 14:49

Women and BAME are not separate categories. Some women are also BAME, some women are not. Try drawing a Venn diagram, it will explain the matter simply.
And AfD has very little support in Germany - it is a response, in some ways, to the racist policies pursued by the EU, which 'others' those who do not meet the EU ideal citizen profile.

Edited

Could you actually miss the point more?

Anyway. Trump has now signed an executive order rescinding any price controls on by pharma. So people who need insulin had better be rich.

Very well crafted and articulated piece of legislation.
That it’s coming from Donald Trump, that was not in my karma bingo card, but that’s the times we’re in, at least, women and children will get the protection they deserve.
Good day for women.

It's good - but there's no way he wrote it - ot even contributed to the points verbally.

What will this mean for people with DSDs?

Absolutely nothing.

Slibberydibbery · 21/01/2025 15:13

Be very wary of him breaking this spell. He’s done it to appease the Evangelicals- they also don’t want women to have any abortion rights.

I didn't say it was in the executive order. It's in Trump's past actions and words. You need to look beyond a single executive order, which may or may not be easily defeated in court.

His Tiktok ban certainly didn't stand.

He's not an idealogue but he is vain and driven by populism, and unfortunately the simplistic explanations, fixes and priorities of populism plus the deep pockets of corporatism tend to end up at the same place as fascism.

I totally understand if he'd happened to hit on a rich vein of disgruntled left wing voters as his path to the White House he'd be fully on board with that agenda. But he didn't. And now that his self image is tied to conservative hobby horses that is what he will ride.

Mr trump isn't doing this because he cares about people or cares about women's rights.
He's doing it because it's something that his base cares about and he knows it's a way to manipulate and control them, to work things to his advantage.
Mr trump cares only about amassing power and wealth for himself.

I try not to go through red traffic lights when I'm driving. My motivation is, realistically, as much because I want to be permitted to continue to drive as it is because I don't want to injure someone else. Self interest is sometimes the motivation for a bit of good behaviour. Trump is not unique in using politics to his personal advantage; we don't have to object when he actually does something worthwhile for a change. We have plenty of opportunities to criticise when he does something bad.

Grammarnut · 21/01/2025 15:05

Chersfrozenface · 21/01/2025 14:45

That would require common sense or at least political smarts. I'm not sure the Labour Party has enough of either at the moment.

One of the few who did, Rosie Duffield, has been driven out.

Does anyone know who wrote this executive order?

It wasn't Trump, that's for sure!

LostittoBostik · 21/01/2025 14:34

@Mrsbloggz I was merely using the term so someone didn't come along and claim that I was TWAW

Using 'cis' suggests you are TWAW. Woman is the one word you are looking for.

LittleBigHead · 21/01/2025 15:02

It's a pity that this clarity and sex realism comes with other such awful repressive stuff. I don't welcome Trump's regime, although I appreciate the sex realism.

HardenYourHeart · 21/01/2025 14:57

Government statistics. You might go and look - others have already.

No, LGB issues are entirely separate from TQ+ issues.

This is about recognising reality rather than pandering to individual people's feelings.

And wheeling out the tired old "everything I don't like is just like the Nazis" argument doesn't work anymore. We see through it.
