In what way.... there are no shortage of of christian-style groups who would like to do away with rights for so many minority groups.

Now they've disposed of the trans types who are they going to focus on next (apart from immigrants).

Do you think May Mailman is going to allow that to happen?

Bringmeahigherlove · 21/01/2025 18:09

Greyskybluesky · 21/01/2025 16:19

Except that's not what's happening here, is it?
Would you rather women just shut up and didn't discuss the pros and cons of this on an open forum?

No I wouldn’t wish women would just shut up but I wouldn’t be too quick to congratulate this legislation, like some people are on here. Donald couldn’t give a toss about women’s rights.

RhymesWithOrange · 21/01/2025 18:02

If Trump suddenly came out in support of climate change mitigation policies, climate scientists would not be saying "this is bad for the planet".

Trump is obviously odious and not to be relied on to protect, support and champion women's rights, but this, specifically, is a very important win.

Does it "weaken our position"? I think it weakens the Democrats position, they got the US into this fucking mess in the first place.

It's convinced many people that they are idiots, for sure.

And a fair number now think they are not in good faith, that they have some kind of nefarious agenda.

TheCatsTongue · 21/01/2025 18:00

"I don't like Trump, I don't like Trump". OK, we get it, but again what has this got to do with this particular policy?

I will phrase this another way.

"If this was a Biden policy, would you have any issue with it?"

EasternStandard · 21/01/2025 17:59

Plastictrees · 21/01/2025 17:44

I just do not think that Trump is a good ally for women’s rights, considering he’s a right wing misogynist who could not care less about women. He’s a narcissist, it’s all about playing a political game to him and coming out on top.

And who else are you expecting to change much?

Which politicians?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/01/2025 17:59

RhymesWithOrange · 21/01/2025 17:23

The overwhelming majority of people in America (and the world) know that there are only two sexes.

They know that people can't change sex.

They don't think men should be in women's prisons, sports or intimate spaces like domestic violence refuges, changing rooms and medical settings.

They are not comfortable with the irreversible damage puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and "gender-affirming surgeries" done to children and vulnerable adults.

None of this is radical or "right-wing".

It's shocking that normal, sensible, decent politicians have dropped the ball on this, and that it's left to someone as odious as Trump to step up, protect women and gain political capital as a result.

^^this!!

I didn't say they don't care about kids.

I am saying they don't object to transgenderism out of a concern for kids and women. They do object to it, because they want strict gender roles based on sex.

Conservatives in the US are extremely concerned about the effects gender ideology has had on kids. Why wouldn't they be?

As far as this idea that they want to return women to "conservative gender roles." You mean like Trump's Chief of Staff, or Vance's wife? Or women like Condoleeza Rice, or even Megan Kelley, or all the other conservative women in business and politics, are all trying to get women just back to traditional gender roles?

What exactly do you think counts as a conservative gender role? Because it seems to be voting, having opinions, writing, having jobs in all kinds of sectors, and being leaders in politics.

I'm sure Hitler would have been anti-trans as well.

I think the fact that Nazis were able to no just cross dress, but to take photos of themselves doing it means that they weren't concerned with Hitler's reaction. You can't say that cross dressing is not the same as being trans as trans is simply a feeling in your head and can be totally unrelated to how you choose to present to the world. A transwoman with a full beard wearing mens clothes is no less trans than one who goes out of his way to look as feminine as possible.

GC ideology is now so right wing that you support pussy grabbing Trump and nazi saluting Musk. Shame.

😂Way to tell us you haven't read the thread 😂

Playing a political game, doing some profitable deals, staying out of jail, playing a lot of golf.

He obviously has advisors who are telling him what people care about, and this was one - Nancy Mace's popularity won't have gone un-noticed. I'll be surprised if the cost of living doesn't drop sharply soon. I'll also be interested to see what the perception of him as a strong leader does on the wider world stage The perception of Biden as weak was not good for women worldwide.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/01/2025 17:51

I agree it's depressing it's Trump who's so clearly restoring women's rights to our own sport, to be free from men flashing in places where women and girls undress and who's the leader determined to stop the dangerous experimental sex change drugs and surgery being used on children and young people.

I'd have liked to have heard Starmer stand up for the rights of girls and women not to encounter indecent exposure or voyeurism in women's changing rooms. I'd have been thrilled to hear the new labour minister for education join up the safeguarding dots and insist that schools MUST respect the Cass Review's concerns about unqualified adults experimenting on other people's children by socially transitioning them in secret from parents.

Sadly to date they've been silent (except for Wes Streeting who has evidently read Cass in detail) leaving just the echo of Starmer's "don't say only women have a cervix" echoing in the space where responsible adults should be safeguarding children from extreme transactivism.

Maybe one day labour will start to safeguard children rather than dance to demands of transacvtivism? We're waiting.

They are entirely different issues.

In what way.... there are no shortage of of christian-style groups who would like to do away with rights for so many minority groups.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 21/01/2025 17:47

So it was better when women couldn't even talk about the issue, when Twitter killed our accounts and Reddit removed our subs, when men were saying words to access women in prison and were raping / assaulting them.

All those things were better, were they?

TDS: 2025 edition is howling at the moon levels of mad.

KilkennyCats · 21/01/2025 17:47

Would you say the same if he abolished gay marriage, brought in gay military bans, banned IVF, etc etc? They're of a piece with this
How on earth are this things “of a piece” with this?!

Haroldwilson · 21/01/2025 12:51

Would you say the same if he abolished gay marriage, brought in gay military bans, banned IVF, etc etc? They're of a piece with this.

You can think what you like about trans issues, a fascist leader making policy to appease right wingers rather than provide for the rights and freedoms of individuals is a bad thing.

It's pandering to the evangelical right and I guarantee you won't like all their views, even if you like this one.

I don’t think many of us here have any illusions about Trump. He’s anti-feminist and has no respect for women.

But as a conservative, he doesn’t believe the genderism nonsense. Why would he, or any conservative? It’s a luxury belief, held by people who want to appear ‘progressive’ without the effort of doing anything that’s actually progressive.

Trump doesn’t feel any need to please small minorities or special-interest groups that he’s not interested in and that aren’t popular. So he has no reason at all to conciliate the genderists.

That is a huge relief to me and anyone concerned about the loss of women’s long-held rights. It doesn’t mean we support anything else he does.

Let's not forget who has been Obamas backer this while time, namely The Pritzkers.

DeanElderberry · 21/01/2025 17:43

I haven't read any trans-exclusionary feminists on here. Lots of men-exclusionary feminists, but strong support for seeing feminist protections in place for transmen aka women. Particularly very young ones who may have been misled about the grave, long term, irreversible, physical damage that can be done by hormones or by surgery.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/01/2025 17:41

ClawedButler · 21/01/2025 12:50

I am cautiously optimistic rather than dancing about as some people are. We haven't 'won'. There is still a huge amount to do.

This is a great start to dismantling some of the top-down infiltration of gender ideology into government but a) it's not happening here, it's happening in the US and b) it could have the unintended consequence of galvanising opposition to sex realism.

I think it's going to be interesting, though, to see how this unfolds.

This is what worries me. I think there may be a backlash given that this is Trump's doing.

EasternStandard · 21/01/2025 17:36

@Plastictrees who are you looking to to strengthen that position?

Which politician/s?

What a load of complete horseshit?

You actually believe that people who are conservatives, something like half the US, and the UK for that matter, don't care about kids?

What basis could you possibly have for such a ridiculous idea?

I didn't say they don't care about kids.

I am saying they don't object to transgenderism out of a concern for kids and women. They do object to it, because they want strict gender roles based on sex.
