The Left Vs Right's treatment of women

I heard this statement recently and was wondering if women here could help explain it to me with historic examples:

"The Right treat women as their private property, and the Left treat women as public property".

Is it that the Right, purportedly perusing 'c'onservative family values may be more inclined to be anti-abortion? But why is this a 'private property' concern?
And the Left, I am thinking of Rosie Duffield and the very public ostracisation of her by Starmer.

But I know that's not correct. Just mulling this over and wanted some more information.

It's nice to roll this out occasionally.

Right wing misogynist : wolf

Left wing misogynist : wolf in sheep's clothing

smalllight · 21/01/2025 12:17

Left wing misogynists are the worst.

At least right wing misogynists will open the door for you.

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/01/2025 12:06

Oh dear, seems I'm a left-leaning libertarian. How disappointing, must try harder! Grin

It made me laugh, because it dumped me very firmly into the Left/Libertarian quarter. I am obviously making a right pig's ear of being a Far Right Nazi-Adjacent Bigot, and must Educate Myself and Do Better...

I'm authoritarian left - the communist quadrant. Grin
I think I was libertarian last time I did the test, but I no longer believe women's rights can be trusted in a libertarian model and I think society needs to have some more stringently enforced rules and boundaries (mostly to curb the worst tendencies of male behaviour).

Mind you, I'm not very authoritarian and I'm actually pretty close to the centre - my values are a mix of old-fashioned and new-fangled.

Complete failure at being Nazi fash trash, though.

MidLangClegs · 21/01/2025 10:19

@DeanElderberry I still cannot get to the survey but it does look like others have accessed it.
A recurring glitch from my ancient phone! I do apologise.

The PC test doesn't cost anything.

It is rather like a personality test though, it is very biased. Not on purpose, but the result is the same.

Heggettypeg · 19/01/2025 21:20

The political compass test gave me my result on the screen without asking for payment. There was a further offer where you can get a printout of the results and stuff if you sign up (and presumably pay?) But that was an optional extra and I didn't look very closely at it.

Perhaps someone else can try, as I had this:

I think I've solved the mystery.

I just tried to access the link on my phone (I was accessing on PC with an ad block) and at the top of my browser page was an ad for "Blossomup".

Since touchscreens are notoriously temperamental, I suspect your phone registered you clicking on the link as tapping twice, and tried to bring up the ad that would have loaded in as soon as the website opened.

I am not lying, I've posted what I saw.
I am sure MNHQ will investigate properly.

I suggest you investigate properly yourself. Search for political compass.

Then apologise for the repeated lies.

DeanElderberry · 19/01/2025 20:29

oops - you'll just have to follow the link

or search for the site

and apologise for lying about me and complaining about my post

There's something wrong at your end, the link works for me, takes me directly to politicalcompass.org

I really don't like being lied about.

@LittleMyLittle can you post a screenshot of it? And I've just tried the link again and got this.

I've reported your post in turn @MidLangClegs , I do not like being lied about. And would never, ever, ever, link to a 'personality test'.

Sorry, this is spam - it's a personality test for which you have to pay to view the results.

Eh? I did this test when I saw Dean had linked it. It asks you about your values and where you stand on certain topics, and I got my results for free.

I repeated the process a couple of times as an experiment and it still gave me a result with no payment needed.

MidLangClegs · 19/01/2025 19:46

DeanElderberry · 18/01/2025 18:07

I recommend doing the Political Compass test as a way of looking at how your views fit on the left/right (largely economic) axis and on the authoritarian/liberal (largely social attitudes) axis.

I am familiar with the horseshoe theory but I'm claiming copywrite on the circular theory as I've held it for decades 😁I think my theory demonstrates that they are identical in the actual results (which is what matters) - they both shit on women to the nth degree, whereas the horseshoe theory leaves a little room for manoeuvre. Left shits less than right or vice versa.

nauticant · 19/01/2025 11:33

flyingbuttress43 · 18/01/2025 17:48

i think it's helpful to stop thinking as left and right as a horizontal line, but more like a circle. Once you do that you realise that far left and far right eventually meet and, although they may describe their views about women in different ways, the end effect is the same i.e. they both have archaic views about women that involve them having power over them. Both views suck.

That's a version of the Horseshoe Theory:

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/01/2025 11:30

The problem women have is not left wing men or right wing men, it's men. I mostly see that quote used in a "Not my Nigel" way.

Feminists know better.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 19/01/2025 11:19

If that quote was by an American, about the USA, it may well be valid where it was observed, but it’s not universal. I can see the basic point, but it doesn’t really work here, now.

I despair when I keep reading about the supposedly powerful ‘religious right’ in Britain. That’s a US phenomenon that has no equivalent over here. Yet another example of the ignorance spread via the internet.
