And lo, an angel came and said: it shall be completed by January the 3rd.

And a voice from on high said: Sex Matters has guidance for thee

And also: A glass of festive refreshment may help and perhaps a mince pie

https://sex-matters.org/take-action/respond-to-the-ehrc-consultation/

'The consultation is open for anyone to respond to, whether you respond as an individual or as an organisation.

  • Individuals can include people who give advice, lawyers, academics, campaigners and ordinary citizens wishing to challenge service providers.
  • Organisations can include service providers, associations and public bodies and organisations that give advice to others.
You should respond particularly if you are a service provider – a business, charity or public body that provides services to the public – or if you are an individual who uses services (everyone!) or an advisor. It will take you about 15 minutes to complete the survey. '

EHRC consults on statutory code of practice - Sex Matters

What needs improvement?  Be clear on the protected characteristics Give examples to help people think about harassment in relation to sex and gender reassignment Correct the section on sport, which is wrong in law  Stop promoting case-by-case assessmen...

Oh, well done! I need to gird myself again.

Well I've done it, but my goodness that was hard work. Regardless of my GC views my heart is sinking at the thought of having to implement it in practice.

ArabellaScott · 27/12/2024 12:16

Thanks for the supplies, Amaryllis. Very fortifying.

Right. I've started. If I'm not back by January the 6th, send a dog with a barrel of booze round its neck.

Good luck Arabella! Sending virtual port and mince pies to speed you on your way.

I think individual experience is hugely helpful, too!

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 26/12/2024 12:45

Done. I looked over the Sex Matters materials and then completed it from my perspective as an individual with particular relevant experiences and concerns rather than trying to be very formal. Like @Fordian I had several windows open and flipped between them.

Every little helps!

Fordian · 24/12/2024 17:40

Done. Thanks to the links from Sex Matters to help us through. Though I had to have 3 devices open; one with the survey, one with the actual government guidance in question, one with Sex Matters!

AlisonDonut · 24/12/2024 14:45

Ooh lovely something for tomorrow. Thank you.

Xiaoxiong · 24/12/2024 14:42

This is a good explanation: sex-matters.org/posts/updates/ehrc-consults-on-code-of-practice/

Zestilemo · 24/12/2024 13:09

Please could someone explain what this is?

Xiaoxiong · 24/12/2024 12:16

I shall complete it from the sofa wrapped in the dressing gown of doom and sitting on the icepack of sadness, fired up with fury by that most female of problems: piles which developed in pregnancy over a decade ago thanks to my massive babies but which rear (ho ho) their ugly head at inopportune times.

I saw a tweet that said trans women go through the same problems that women do plus transphobia and I just wanted to shriek "so where are your fucking pregnancy piles!"

My righteous anger will be poured into this consultation instead to distract me from the pain.

Fordian · 24/12/2024 12:07

Bumpity bump.

heathspeedwell · 24/12/2024 11:56

Thanks for the reminder.

YellowRoom · 24/12/2024 10:20

Would I! Oh yes.

ArabellaScott · 24/12/2024 10:06

Well done, Yellow! Bit early for port, would you like a wee peach bellini?

YellowRoom · 24/12/2024 09:59

ArabellaScott and JanesLittleGirl - I'd abandoned the survey but returned to it this morning to complete. Thank you for your inspiration.
The examples the EHRC provide are infuriating - sort of a mixture between ignoring key problems and making the current situation worse.

JanesLittleGirl · 23/12/2024 22:12

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2024 21:58

A nice glass of port for you, Jane!

Thank you very much. I do enjoy the occasional port .

OK. This wasn't the most straightforward consultation I have ever completed and it took about 2 hours to get through (had to keep going back) but I got to the end and I feel that I got my message across.

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2024 21:33

Ho ho ho!

Santa is here to remind girls and wims to fill out the consultation.

OP posts:
YellowRoom · 22/12/2024 20:29

Oh, i don't love this consultation. Why is it so hard to complete. Will need to do some cross-referencing.

YellowRoom · 22/12/2024 20:14

Thank you. I do love a consultation

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2024 15:23

Yes, i didn't see it anywhere until yesterday though! And I get updates from the EHRC ...

I have news feeds which usually catch updates from EHRC and didn't see this.

But then not sure i would have understood the title. Hmm

kiterunning · 22/12/2024 16:03

Thanks @ArabellaScott
