But if they’re on daily medication or have any medical conditions arising from drugs or surgery, then it makes sense that they shouldn’t be in the military.

And yes, if they are physically & medically ok, they should definitely be sharing accommodation with their own sex.

Edited

Someone recently posted the US military's conditions for active soldiers and it included that they could not be on medication? There was a suggestion that the free medical care (drugs and surgery to enable transitioning) encouraged trans identifying people to join up but once they start down the route of transitioning then they are only allowed to be "back office" staff as taking medication disbars them from front line duties?

illinivich · 01/12/2024 10:29

However, they should expect to be treated as the sex they are, in these roles/in life generally.

That isn't trans. Tran people want to be treated as if they the opposite sex, so to be trans and part of the military they will expect or make those demands. These two facts are incompatible.

I am strongly agsinst the idea that trans people should be ejected from the military or public life (or other jobs, or housing, etc, etc). This is actual transphobia. However, they should expect to be treated as the sex they are, in these roles/in life generally.

However - men who
a) Appropriate female-ness

and/or

b) Get a sexual kick out of pretending to be (their idea of) female

and

c) Want to force their way into female-only spaces

... are by definition abusive.

This is a masterpiece! Truly breathtaking.

My favourite part was when it claimed that the Democrats have been unfairly demonising those who voted for trans people to be ejected from the US military, blocked from transitioning and banned from public life without mentioning the ongoing Republican smear campaigns to paint all trans people as pedophiles and groomers by recycling last generation's homophobic rhetoric.

I am fully accepting of the idea that people can dress and act how they like. Even using pronouns that don't match their birth sex.
But trans people are a different category. They're not the sex they wish/feel to be, they are a trans-(wo)man. Separate. Which is fine, no better or worse. But people with penises do not belong in female sport, prisons, or refuges. Of course they should still be catered for, but either in a trans specific area or space.
Absolutely no way should puberty blockers, hormones or surgery be given to under 18s. The parent should not be consenting on the kids behalf on these things. They should seek therapy or just embrace the fact they're not gender conforming. Then if they want medicine later on that's their choice. I'm not sure if it should be an NHS treatment in all circumstances.

The longstanding coalition is LGB. The T parasitically attached themselves to LGB without asking.

And just who is this 'anti-trans' [sic] person? I presume you are talking about some feminist, who is PRO-WOMEN. Not 'anti-trans'.

To be fair to you, it's quite hard to narrow it down to just a single person given the sizeable list of options.

Britinme · 01/12/2024 02:48

Usually the TRAs mean Jo Rowling when they say that kind of thing, though ButterflyHatched may have some other demon in mind. I've read many things Rowling has written on this issue over the years and IMHO it is completely inaccurate to say that she is 'anti-trans', although I would describe her as not believing that a man can be a woman just because he says he feels as if he is one, and I would describe her as standing up for the rights of women in the face of continued assaults by the TRAs on their rights to things such as single-sex sports, prisons and areas of vulnerability. Yes, she's pro-women, not anti-trans.

The irony of calling the longstanding coalition of LGBT groups 'forced teaming' when one of the most powerful and influential anti-trans crusaders on earth is a straight woman who spends an inordinate amount of time posturing as if she were the official representative of the lesbian community has not been lost on me.

What TRAs and those who identify as being on The Left need to realise it that doing nothing to challenge actual, violent transphobia - which includes those who commit violence on trans people because of their GI and those who agree with their methods- whilst turning on broadly liberal/lefty women, branding them bigots, nazis and fascist for disagreement has only emboldened those who actually wish harm on trans people and alienating those who had previously supported them.

If TRas/allies can’t do that, well that’s worth wondering about as well.

IdylicDay · 29/11/2024 17:15

Gay rights took NOTHING away from females and children. Nothing. It didn't erase definitions, seek to re-order society, reposition and re-badge the oppressors as the oppressed, remove female only spaces, seek to insert males and autogynephiles in womens sports and sacred safe single sex spaces, didn't seek to sterilise children, chemically castrate them or encourage lesbians to have their breasts chopped off.

As gay men themselves have said; trans is NOT 'Gay 2.0'. Its a misogynist predatory movement that parasitically hijacked LGB to give their misogynist predatory movement a veneer of respectability.

I couldn't have put it better myself!

Stop forced teaming T with LGB.

EmpressaurusKitty · 29/11/2024 17:52

I came out during section 28 & I do see parallels, to be honest.

Back then, a homophobic society generally frowned on people admitting that they were exclusively attracted to their own sex, and that’s happening now too. Only now the homophobes are running Stonewall.

And even Thatcher would never have suggested that children who didn’t come close enough to matching the social stereotypes associated with their sex should be given drugs & eventual surgery so they could be physically adapted to look more like the other sex.

IdylicDay · 29/11/2024 17:15

ButterflyHatched · 29/11/2024 14:51

Did you feel the same way about gay men and women during the homophobic campaigns of the 20th century that made the same claims?

I used to be sympathetic to people who wanted to identify as women. But since they have been insisting they ARE women and have gone too far I now realise that saying one identifies as a woman is itself offensive and an attack on women. (No one is allowed to identify as black for good reason) Basically if a man wants to adopt stereotypical aspects of femininity I am fine with that as long as he doesn’t pretend he is an actual woman and as long as he stays out of female spaces.

Activists like Zooey Zephyr and Veronica Ivy insist that they are not just women but biologically female. At first we had people saying it soothed their dysphoria to live as the opposite sex and that was fine; now we're at males insisting that they've always been literally female. Sorry, there's no compromising with that and I'm not interested in trying.

ButterflyHatched · 29/11/2024 14:51

The difference is that lesbian and gay campaigners back in the day worked to ensure that we were seen as equal citizens, but with a different and legitimate sexual orientation.

None of our campaigns were about removing rights from others, promoting dangerous drugs and surgery at the young resulting in sterilisation, insisting that facts and science were somehow phobic. Toxic representations of women via drag remained in adults clubs and bars where they belong. Let alone insisting on the toddler level thinking of #nodebate. Which is why most people (not everyone) accept gay men and lesbians as equal partners in society and a judge at the Supreme Court hearing this week was able to talk about the chilling impact of the GRA / Equality Act on the rights of lesbians.

Your incorrect assumptions about your audience on here and lack of insight and respect for women, lesbians & our knowledge and experiences are evident in so many of your posts

The trouble is an alarming number of MTF transitioners in the prison population are there for sexual offences. A number of trans activists have later been linked to sexual offences including child grooming. This all adds up to a public perception that some transwomen DO in fact use trans-ness to get themselves access to children. It's the old 'But how do we know who the TRUE trans are?' when the bar to entry is as low as 'Because today I feel like girl mode'.

I wonder when trans activists are going to learn that plopping in with hyperbolic dramatic nonsensical claims of imaginary persecution is also a losing tactic?

What part of the above is untrue? This is an outright, stated goal of Project 2025. The most powerful nation on earth is about to be ruled by a double act who have repeatedly stated their goals and have been given a clear mandate to achieve them.

There is nothing imaginary about this.

That’s bonkers.

I do like the fact that the campaign was launched at Dick’s House of Sport. Goes well with the balls.

And I found a link to Meg Linehan’s take on it (any relation to Graham?)

Goat balls?
