Calling all biological - cis - women. Could we all stop raping each other please? (BBC Radio 4)

BBC The World Tonight, 25/11. Second piece was on the Supreme Court appeal, For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers.

They had Susan Smith from For Women Scotland and Emily Chung from Out for Independence, the LGBTQ+.wing of the Scottish National Party. In answer to why FWS shouldn’t have concerns about who should access single sex spaces, Chung argued:

"The first [concern] is a practical matter, that they oppose it on the grounds of that they feel gender identity - gender recognition certificates rather - shouldn’t grant access to single sex spaces. The answer is that they don’t.

The second argument is again somewhat of a sad one, which is that there is a presumption in the For Women Scotland's argument that same sex, or single sex female spaces in particular, are free of physical and sexual violence, and sadly that’s simply not true. Sadly, biological women - cis women - can and do commit horrible acts of violence including sexual violence including rape on other biological cis women."

Presumably this is one reason why TRAs insist that the media use wrong-sex pronouns, including when reporting rape and assault cases. If you can show - or make it look - that women are (equally?) violent and commit rape and sexual assault just like men/TW, then there is no point in having single sex spaces, and no need for them.

@AmaryllisNightAndDay to be fair it wasn't aimed at anyone! I only read the first post and my brain clammed up in refusal to entertain and of that shite 😂

Abhannmor · 26/11/2024 09:22

Women's bathrooms are very dangerous places , if Emily Chung is to be believed. And as for men's , well very few people make it out of those places unscathed , if at all. A dystopian hellscape.

The trans community will just have to have their own safe toilets.
Perhaps they could secure funding from the huge pharma companies which make puberty blockers and hormones?

burnoutbabe · 26/11/2024 09:22

I can imagine say a female prison is somewhere where there is a higher risk of female sexual abuse, I can't think of many other places.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2024 09:21

Yes, but if there is a joint enterprise rape in a female only space, it means that there is a man in there. It's a distraction from Emily Chung, whataboutery, when the subject is female only spaces.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/11/2024 09:17

Eh?

If that was for me - I was just pointing out how effective "Out for Independence" (et al) have been.

It is not possible for a (real) women to commit rape - lacking a penis is part of the problem!

no actual woman has ever been convicted of rape (though it is possible to aid and abet - very rare though!). I think she was thinking of women like Isla!

If you aid and abet in a rape you can still be charged with rape. Joint enterprise rules?

So that's the only way a biological woman can legally be charged with rape. I think it's happened once it twice.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/11/2024 09:17

Eh?

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 26/11/2024 09:15

Emily Chung from Out for Independence, the LGBTQ+.wing of the Scottish National Party.

Because their LGBTQ+ policies have gone so well for the SNP. Just think, if Scotland had been independent all this batshit could have been ours already. Imagine, a whole tranche of potentially pro-indepedence Scottish voters sighing with relief when Westminister intervened over self-id. Foot, gun, bang.

(edit for spelling correction)

Foodie333 · 26/11/2024 09:06

Well.
we CAN stop SA committed by bio men/trans women by not allowing in women only safe space.
So, 100% ban them.

The other “issue” is a matter for another day.

Alucard55 · 26/11/2024 09:03

Is the logic then that women rape other women anyway so let's let the men in to rape them some more?

334bu · 26/11/2024 09:02

Have been flashed at( several times ), groped repeatedly ( once memorably in a chip shop queue) , pursued down a dark street by a masturbating person and surprise ,surprise all of these people had penises. Not once have I been assaulted by a " vagina presenting" person. Strange ,no?

It was the maddest interview I've heard in a long time. I don't think it was the win EC thought it might be.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2024 08:55

“you have a board and you’re looking to get 50% women. An applicant walks in (Jane Doe) she has long hair, uses she/her pronouns, she’s called Jane, she’s dressed femininely. In those social situations your not going to do any of the tests that would distinguish a tw from a non-tw so it wouldn’t make sense to include them as separate … tw live socially as women for the vast majority of situations … tw will have more understanding of pregnancy and maternity because they have to have lots of medical interventions” (not an exact transcript)

Yes she basically said that the concern about the board was that FWS supposed there would be a 100% male perspective if a board was 50% and 50% "trans women" but that was really really unlikely and also they live as women anyway so don't have a male perspective Confused

Grammarnut · 26/11/2024 08:52

OldCrone · 26/11/2024 00:15

Real (female) women have been convicted of rape when they have assisted a male rapist. Under joint enterprise they are convicted of the actual crime committed by the main offender.

Very rare, and no-one thinks they actually did the penetrating with a penis.

Glamourreader · 26/11/2024 08:50

May as well argue that there's no need to be wary of snakes when visiting India as we have venomous snakes in the UK

Nottodaygoaway · 26/11/2024 08:50

I just want to echo what @WearyAuldWumman said. Have experienced SA from men. Never a woman. (Version 1.0 woman I mean)

These people live in a fantasy world.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2024 08:48

There are also voyeurism, exibitionism, harrassment and sexual assault. None of which women want to encounter when we're just out for a bit of exercise.

Exactly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2024 08:47

Rightsraptor · 26/11/2024 06:56

And can we please not set the bar at rape? If that is where it is, when we are in the women's changing room at the sports' centre and there are naked men in our showers but they don't rape us - well, there's no problem, is there?

Apart from yes, there is the massive fucking problem of men imposing themselves on us in all manner of ways that so many of them seem to thoroughly enjoy.

Our privacy and dignity are just as important as our safety.

This.

That interview was insane…

“you have a board and you’re looking to get 50% women. An applicant walks in (Jane Doe) she has long hair, uses she/her pronouns, she’s called Jane, she’s dressed femininely. Er...not many TiMs pass as women. And understanding pregnancy and birth because you have had surgery? Duh? Where did that idea come from? The entitlement of the suggestion could only belong to men.
Also, 'women' are now non-tw? Non-transwomen?

Exactly how are they ignoring this

They live in la-la land.

Women cannot commit rape in the UK. It requires a penis - attached to your body. Mad as a box of frogs? Mad as a whole container ship of frogs, I'd say.

Chung has a male sibling who says he is a woman.

Well, that explains a lot.

On SA by women, I read of one who sexually assaulted two different women in a nightclub, earlier this year. At 54, I don't think I've ever seen such a story before, it must be vanishingly unusual.
