Another barnpot MP - "Transmen are men"

Gendered vocabulary should be removed from pregnancy care, suggests Labour MP

Some of the comments from the thread:

"I'm all for inclusivity and stuff...but this is too far. They're making real women feel invalidated."

"No. If a woman wants to become a dude when an adult, then fine. But to suggest, a tiny minority should influence the vocabulary of the gender of people giving birth is ludicrous."

"Men don't have babies. 'Trans men' can have babies because the are really women. Simple."

Most of the comments seem to be 'Nope' and 'politicians are lunatics', which is encouraging.

Happy to refer to Sobel as ‘a person with a penis’ if Sobel is so against gendered language. Works for me!

That description would be more snappy if you omitted the first three words.

Alex Sobel. Of course he would say that.

Oh. Him.

If a trans man's gender dysphoria is mild enough that they can cope with going through pregnancy and childbirth, they can cope with being referred to as a woman.

PaterPower · 23/11/2024 10:23

I assume they’ve turned comments off now - there are none to be seen on that link.

Is this penis coming out of his forehead because that would be very apt. 😂

I was just thinking "dickhead" would be appropriate!

RedToothBrush · 21/11/2024 21:09

Can't we just refer to him as 'a penis'?

"bollock gantry"

Brilliant

duc748 · 22/11/2024 13:48

Well that must have simplified your decision, Kuc, if you ever did harbour any doubts! Much as mine was by Nandy. But Sobell is prob worse, if anything.

lcakethereforeIam · 22/11/2024 13:40

I voted Tory, it was a weird experience watching my hand write the 'x' like it had been possessed. It was made easier by knowing my marginal was going to flip LD no matter who I voted for. I'd received a nice, very GC letter from the then Tory incumbent which helped. I don't know what I'd have done if my vote had really mattered. Also encouraged my kids to vote Green to waste their votes save the Green candidates deposit, I don't know if they did.

Kucinghitam · 22/11/2024 13:32

My MP, and what an utter penis he is.

I didn't vote for him - anybody remember all the vote-scolding before the GE, when all the "I'm as GC as they come but..." crew were telling us how women owed their vote to The Good Guys, spoiling your vote was simultenousely an act of despicable cruelty towards the poor tired counters and also a complete waste of time, etc etc? Yep, I spoiled my ballot with "Respect My Sex If You Want My X" and "No self respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party that ignores her sex."

Whilst I'm sure the crew were correct that my ballot paper was flung, completely unobserved, upon the scrap heap of crazy-people-votes as a last desperate act by the exhausted counter before they slumped lifeless to the floor, at least a tiny part of me hopes that maybe the smug ignorant bollock gantry might have had to take note that not everybody in his constituency is as high on the collective Righteous farts of TRSOH.

Snowypeaks · 22/11/2024 13:27

Exactly.
And "what medication are you on?" would cover the clinically relevant bit.

duc748 · 22/11/2024 13:16

As has often been said, the NHS no more needs to know your gender than it does your star-sign.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/11/2024 13:13

Well, he's right on this

Alex Sobel argued that failing to ask trans men if there is a possibility they could be pregnant before hospital treatment could result in “serious consequences”.

Which is why it's important that sex is accurately recorded and used throughout the health system, even if 'gender' is an optional extra too.

lcakethereforeIam · 22/11/2024 12:57

I do think some trans activists are a GC fifth column...not this guy though, he's just wrong in the head.

At least his motivations are clear

What are his motivations? To demonstrate to the maximum number of people that he's wrong in the head?

Yeah, pretty much.

And that he couldn't care less about the rights of people affected by his cause

Kuckinghitam coined the phrase Bollock Gantry.

God knows how this loon ever became an MP........

Because other loons voted for him and didn’t see this as a problem

Snowypeaks · 22/11/2024 05:38

Sorry, Grimgrump! My bad.

Grimgrump · 22/11/2024 05:00

Snowypeaks · 22/11/2024 04:28

I know it's not your main point, Grimgrump, but "woman" is not gendered language, either.
It's sexed language, just more specific than "female".

But yeah, the land grabbing of language by TAs did cause many people to rethink.

Edited

Yes, I agree, and didn’t mean to imply that man and woman were gendered language. As you say, it was when they started to be colonised that I changed to more generic sexed terms to be more pointed about biology. Only to find those being eroded as well.

Grimgrump · 22/11/2024 00:20

I started using sexed language some years ago when the TRAs started the mantras of TWAW and TMAM. So, Transmen are female (rather than women), Transwomen are male (rather than men). Like many others, I thought that would drive home the material reality and immutability of sexed bodies. But then the TRAs started claiming that they literally changed sex, and became the other sex. But also claimed that sex doesn’t exist and males could be lesbians, dragged DSD people unwillingly into the trans umbrella, etc. And were given mainstream media platforms to reiterate these ‘facts’ constantly, which emboldened the misogynist beardos and their handmaidens. My BP spiked when I just saw the other day, that Meryl Streep’s screenlab funding to help develop screenplays by women writers over 40 has been expanded to include ‘non-binary’ people. In other words, males (who are so terribly underrepresented in Hollywood 🙄)! Sorry, just needing to vent.

Catsmere · 21/11/2024 23:41

duc748 · 21/11/2024 18:58

My sympathy for transmen who don't consider themselves women, and might miss out on cervical screenings etc, is close to zero. You put yourself in this situation; deal with it.

Same. I know it's often a trauma response with women (as distinct from paraphilias with men) but my sympathy cuts out completely when they start harming other women with their lies and demands.

duc748 · 21/11/2024 23:34

It shows how political parties are so far removed from the electorate that a guy like that could ever be nominated as a potential MP. Sadly.

Toseland · 21/11/2024 23:32

Diverting attention away from the transwomen who people are starting to look at a little more closely now.
Creep.
Apologise to your Mother Mr Sobral!
