The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

The article gives a good overview over "the rage".

I have encountered this in real life discussions which were not about women at all; completely different things. Disagreement on topics that belonged to the setting we were in and where discussion is part of the day: visceral anger and annoyance at someone disagreeing with them, trying to paint them as yesteryear.

About Mace, it is a strong contrast with "be kind and tolerant" when it's the other way round; just shows the hypocrisy.

UtopiaPlanitia · 26/11/2024 14:47

I love O’Neill’s turn of phrase and he has produced some well-turned phrases in his examination of this issue. Some of my favourites are:

‘The doublespeak is crazy. The true ‘culture warriors’, surely, are the men who swagger into the ladies’ changing room, upending centuries of social decorum, all in order to validate their hallucinatory identities. To call these men ‘women’, and the women protesting their presence ‘bigots’, is moral inversion on steroids. It turns truth upside down. The intruding male becomes the hero, the complaining woman the villain. Greater worth is accorded to men’s feelings than to women’s dignity. Their right to poop wherever they want and undress wherever they please trumps the right of women to enjoy freedom of association and a cock-free day. The bald truth is that elevating McBride’s access to the Capitol’s female bathrooms over Mace’s desire for a women-only zone represents a historic victory for men’s rights.’

‘One woke comic says Mace will never have to prove anything when she goes into the women’s bathroom because ‘there’s no doubt you’re in the presence of a cunt’. Geddit – she has a cunt and she is a cunt! Honestly, these people make Bernard Manning sound like Betty Friedan.’

‘The Mace hate confirms something many of us already knew: that trans activism is misogyny in drag. It also shines an unforgiving light on the phoney virtue of the correct-think clique, who spent years wearing pussy hats and posing as feminists and yet who now shrug as a woman is threatened with violent death for defending women’s rights. We’re witnessing the rage of an activist class that feels its cultural power waning. Trans is falling out of fashion. The sea of reason is crashing on the shores of their bullshit. And how are they dealing with it? The same way every dogmatic fruitcake in history dealt with such revolts – by burning a witch.’

Even the Guardian don't talk about The Squad any more.

When AOC started to rise in the ranks, I thought at first that she was refreshing and interesting, and a voice for societal justice.
The past years I was astonished about the zealous fever with which she throws women under the bus.

themostspecialelfintheworkshop · 26/11/2024 13:36

The sea of reason is crashing on the shores of their bullshit. Exquisite writing.

I'd very much like AOC to read that.

Watched a bit of a Megyn Kelly podcast the other day where they were discussing how weird and disturbing it was that AOC is talking about asking children to undress but then one of the panelists pointed out it's probably one of the fantasies in sissy porn and AOC clearly takes instructions from men into this sort of thing.

We can tell who the men are all the time. It's not difficult. What is wrong with AOC ,has her brain fallen out? Even dogs and other mammals can tell adult male humans from adult females. The entire skeleton, muscles hip to shoulder ratio, hand size, sound of voice, gait etc is different.

And that's before you get to the fact of behaviour, aggression, crossing of boundaries, acting without consent. Vanishingly few women would willing traumatize other women. Whereas several men who identify as women have just illustrated it's very much their goal in entering women's spaces.

duc748 · 26/11/2024 13:21

That really is a top piece by BO'N.

Datun · 26/11/2024 12:53

why is it only a ‘culture war’ when women tell men to get out of their bathrooms but not when men barge in? Why is it ‘harassment’ when women say they don’t want to see a penis at their spa but not when the creep whips his penis out?

The doublespeak is crazy

There are clearly a number of people, (men mostly, because I believe it is coming to them as something of a massive shock), who cannot believe how many utterly stupid, awful, ignorant men there are out there. Who will do and say any old shit, whether violent or self sabotaging, just to express how much they hate women.

It's not just the hatred, it's all the really disturbing stupidity involved in the expression of it.

The doublespeak is crazy

Yep

Edited to add that it sometimes counts in our favour how crazy the talk is.

The double speak, the double, triple and quadruple standards, the lies and unhinged self obsession. Because that may pique the interest of many an intelligent man, where boring old misogyny might have gone unnoticed.

What used to be called indecent exposure is now called trans rights. The bourgeois left fights tooth and nail for the right of men in dresses to do what we used to condemn men in dirty macs for doing – show their knobs to women who don’t want to see them.

I can remember being struck, at least ten years ago, by a poster on here saying the crimes of voyeurism and indecent exposure will cease to exist. If that poster is still here, thank you. It was an eye opening moment

To call these men ‘women’, and the women protesting their presence ‘bigots’, is moral inversion on steroids. It turns truth upside down. The intruding male becomes the hero, the complaining woman the villain. Greater worth is accorded to men’s feelings than to women’s dignity.

Transactivism - turning men everywhere into feminists 🤣

More helpful sunlight from Rep Zooey Zephyr:

'I literally just got out of meetings with members of Congress & used the bathroom on my way out. Trans women are women—full stop. We're every bit as "biologically female" as cis women &
@SpeakerJohnson's statement doesn't change the fact that women's spaces include trans women.'

https://x.com/ZoAndBehold/status/1859295903846207567

'Zooey', on the left.

Zooey has a pinned article at her TwiX account, about women in sports: "And like all women, we deserve the chance to experience the life lessons that sports can offer."
Again twisting the narrative that TW are excluded from sports, but they are not, they can play any sport they like, in the men's categories.

This is all about the validation twisted several times:
either they are women (in their head), then it does not matter whether anyone validates them, and they can use all the facilities for men, take part in sports in the men's categories and so on, in the knowledge that their mind says they are a woman OR
only the validation by action - being in female spaces, entering in female sports categories - makes them a woman, then it is on women to make men feel like women ???

Because "biological women" do not need external validation about their sex, they are validated through biology.

And I am thinking Zooey's profile background photo with the microphone has a peculiar framing in this context. I wouldn't assume any double meaning otherwise, but with this profile, I am sceptical.

^... and McBride replying to the ban decision: trying to play it cool, saying that isn't an important thing, people should focus on politics and the things they were elected for; Republicans just trying to divert...
Alright, then if this is such an unimportant issue, why did McBride make her career out of it, campaigning for such rights amongst other topics? And if it is just a small thing, then why did McBride plan on using the women's toilets? ^

McBride is all over the mainstream US media giving interviews despite "rising above it" probably because TRAs didn't appreciate McBride's comments.

«We are every bit as «BIOLOGICALLY FEMALE» as cis women».

This bloke is out of his nut, clearly. Even if biologically female was in «-«. What does that even mean?
This Bill is a step in the right direction. It is really sad that it had to be put forward, reality is losing ground in parts of the US by the looks of it.

Hope he gets arrested. Harassing women and not accepting a democratic mandate should really bar a man from office but we're in upside down clown world.

I think this is ultimately the problem. We shouldn't be at the point of HAVING any bill put forward. But there is a fundamental need for it because of piss taking and a previous lack of due diligence over safeguarding.

I believe (although I'm struggling and I'd love to be wrong) that some gender butc doctors and surgeons have been advertising to...in effect, 'ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up. Get your gender affirming mutila treatment while you still can!'.

Although they probably don't use such gendered language.

Nancy Mace is not alone. Now Republican senators are aiming to pass laws on gender ideology too.

It is just announced that a new bill in the Senate being proposed.
GOP senators announce 'STOP Act' to penalize doctors for child sex change procedures
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Sens. Roger Marshall, R- Kan., and Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., on Wednesday announced the proposal of a measure which would penalize doctors who perform sex change procedures on children.
The “STOP Act,” or Safeguarding The Overall Protection of Minors Act, would fine doctors at least $100,000 if they provide minors with sex-altering surgeries or medications. The senators said they expect to release the proposal within two weeks.

They have the votes to do this I believe though I am not sure how it would interact with state law.

As quite a few Dems claim there are no child surgeries in the States [investigation has revealed actually around 14,000 were performed] this bill is going to be interesting as it will get more open discussion of what is going on.

This law could have a huge impact given the gender industry has a big profit motivation.

Well thank goodness the adults seem to be in the room at last.

It's appalling this was allowed and encouraged by the Biden administration, most notably the obviously biased Levine with his massive conflict of interest and creepy intent to remove all safeguards for children.

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2024 09:28

I find this mind-boggling that there is this level of lack of transparency. I suppose it makes sense, and it's something we take for granted in the UK. We have the NHS so there is a unified health service where data can be centrally collected from but the US is lots of independent providers without the same obligation to provide data and no accountability as there isn't an equivalent of Freedom of Information requests.

But it also shows a lack of oversight and regulation.

The Democrats saying this hasn't been happening and there then being evidence of it happening in even just a few cases, demonstrates a problem. For it to be happening at the level of thousands is a dereliction of duty and a complete safeguarding failure at a level which constituted a national scandal. Ethically it's breeching a lot.

I think the introduction of the bill is therefore important and much needed. Arguably the Dems should have been bringing bills to safeguard rather than ban if they believe so strongly in protecting trans rights but that ship has now sailed and they can't blame anyone but themselves for that.

They should have been aware of the problem.

Instead it looks like the industry is completely devoid of any regulation whatsoever.

And that's where it gets really weird as it's generally the Republicans who are against state intervention, but in this case it's the opposite.

This in turn asked questions about the relationship between the Democratic party and big health companies.

Which then has other consequences.

My feeling about the swing state voters where the ads hit home is as has been mentioned before. Gender identity gaslighting simply makes politicians appear untrustworthy whether or not you are particularly bothered about women's sex-based rights.

knitnerd90 · 24/11/2024 22:23

My state did not get the anti-trans ads much (not a swing state, and our Senate race didn't get a great deal of it) but I saw them when I visited a friend in Pennsylvania, which got slammed. What was interesting about those ads is that they were not about women's rights at all. They were effective because 1) he latched onto the "immigrant prisoners getting free surgery" issue, which I am not sure is primarily about trans rights, and 2) he portrayed caring about trans rights as an issue of liberal elitism. I would say that overall, centrist Americans have a mixed view of trans rights and in surveys often answer questions differently depending on how they are phrased. (For example, their views on treatment bans change depending on how those bans are defined and explained.)

Kamala said she was going to get rid of the filibuster to push through legislation on abortion.

Would be interesting to see the response if the republicans now got rid of the filibuster to push through legislation on abortion..

Luckily they have no intention of doing so.

The hypocrisy should be obvious.

I thought that was short-sighted of her for the very reason you described.

Filibuster’s are annoying but they were intended as a method of protesting against dangerous legislation or to encourage a governing party to compromise to get legislation passed. If a party in power removes procedural safeguards, in order to railroad though legislation, then when the power dynamic changes the opposition will have no way of preventing bad legislation being railroaded through against their wishes.

This erosion of democratic norms is happening in so many countries. Political parties have to behave like adults and work within the democratic structures of their legislature and not try to find ways to finagle the procedural rules to get their own way. Weakening the checks and balances will make things easy for future autocrats.

Brava ArabellaScott!

Reclaiming single sex toilets is the beginning of the fightback against GII, which is fundamentally destructive of the understanding of women as a sex class and therefore of women having sex-based rights.

And a propos of the right to choose - at State level, many women vote in favour, unaware that they are also voting for gender identity to supersede sex in the constitution of their state. (This is taken from a Kara Dansky interview and she named NY as one of the states this was true of.) Dentons playbook style.
So the Democrats are making women pay for the right to choose by effectively giving up all their sex-based rights and protections. And not even telling them.

They did this in Ireland with the gay marriage vote.
