The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

Gosh then it is very odd that Mace would make statements about trans women in women's bathrooms but not cis men openly making rape threats!

There's no such thing as "cis". There are only female women and girls, and male men and boys. "Cis" is activist nonsense.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:34

Yes, but the TRA movement is dying because it’s based on a lie. Nothing to do with being progressive or not.

This, exactly. It's unsustainable, because it's nonsense and can only go so far.

@Snowypeaks

If you engaged with the actual questions that have been put to you, posters wouldn't have to amuse themselves in other ways.

Why are you opposed to the provision of single sex toilets for women?

And incidentally, did you notice that statement by Rep Zooey Zephyr quoted upthread?

I'm not on MN constantly, so I don't always see questions as they're posted.

I'm actually not opposed to single-sex toilets. What I am opposed to is political grandstanding and bigotry for no good reason except cruelty.

I did see Rep. Zephyr's statement, yes. I think it's unnecessarily inflammatory and unhelpful.

Thanks for replying.

I agree. Does that mean that you accept that there is a good reason for this ruling - that some male people make a point of using women's facilities?

So if you don't oppose single sex toilets for women, then what is all this about? You have failed to demonstrate bigotry - grandstanding, or bringing forward a bill for political purposes is not bigotry. Can you show me, with reference to the dictionary definition (either Collins or Merriam-Webster is fine, I don't know if you're British or American), why the sponsorship of a bill to ensure that women's toilets are for women only why NM is being bigoted - and cruel, as you say now.

Please allow yourself to entertain the possibility that this measure is about women, and women's needs. There are already mixed-sex toilets in the building. Each representative has a private toilet.

Feeling the need to go back to Katie Dolatowski here!

MoJ statistics suggest that transwomen pose at least as much of a threat to women as other men

Gosh then it is very odd that Mace would make statements about trans women in women's bathrooms but not cis men openly making rape threats!

I wonder what the difference could possibly be?

Perhaps because she doesn't actually care about women's safety at all.

Given her voting record and her supporting a president who has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, I would sayyyyyy that's probably it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:33

Mace's actions will likely backfire and push more people away from gender critical viewpoints

I disagree and this is bigger than just the US. New Zealand has just announced they are stopping puberty blockers. These public conversations are long overdue and I'm all here for it.

I will say this... Mace's actions will likely backfire and push more people away from gender critical viewpoints because of a simple truth that has born out for decades: The American population tends to get more progressive under republican governments and more conservative under democratic governments.

They shift in opposition of the ruling party. This is also shown in declining church attendance during republican presidential terms.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:31

Also condemning death threats to women from males isn't "extending an olive branch" it's just what decent people do, when they are made in their name.

Runor · 21/11/2024 11:31

PinkChesnut · 21/11/2024 11:15

No, dear.

Just pointing out she doesn't feel trans women and cis men pose the same threat as one another even when the former is just popping into the loo for a whiz and the latter is threatening rape and forced pregnancy.

Nancy Mace is a brave woman, whatever else I may disagree with her on politically. I fully support her in this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:29

I must say I find it very sad that prominent TRAs can't even bring themselves to denounce graphic death threats 🤷‍♀️

nolongersurprised · 21/11/2024 11:28

PinkChesnut · 21/11/2024 11:24

The fact none of you find her utter failure to speak out about this a sign of what really matters to her is sad.

She isn't here to protect any women at all, her only goal was to hurt trans people.

She’s going to ensure men dont have access to women’s spaces. This protects women and girls.

Who knows what her private motivation is - GC feminism vs political gain? maybe both. Who cares? No one trusts politicians when they state their motives.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:28

Sure.

Actually had a nice chat with a trans lady friend of mine who was furious with the threats, as was a trans man. Both of them found it unacceptable. Most trans people think threats have no place in this dicussion.

Glad to hear it. But it would be good for McBride to do so, as a public figure. Or any of Macbride's handwringing Democrat or media supporters.

Politics are a bit too heated in the US for me to expect McBride to extend the olive branch, I don't blame her if she does not.

Cailleach1 · 21/11/2024 11:25

Yes, that would be the first thing you’d clock about two fine lads in a picture. As much biologically women, as women themselves. Maybe such fine lads (or should I say loverly ladies) are the real biological women. That would be the ‘Science’ now, according to some, I’m sure.

Glad you could admit it though, thank you.

I've never said anything different. The point?

PinkChesnut · 21/11/2024 11:23

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:21

But men aren’t? Why isn’t the TiM McBride “denouncing” the death threats Mace has received?

Quite.

Strange, this threat far predated any threats made to her.

Shocking she did not say anything at all.

Absolutely shocking from a true warrior for women's safety. I am at a loss as to what to think in regards to this lapse of hers!

Im sure she's quite occupied with the actual threats to kill her by "trans women".
