Jordan Gray's New Sitcom

They who tickled the ivories with they's penis is back with a new sitcom about a trans supermarket worker. Sounds delightful.

Jordan gets annoyed with his female colleagues because they changed the toilets to gender neutral and he doesn't want to use the same toilets as MEN. Uses delightful gendered insults such as "twatflaps" and urinates on a female co-worker's car as revenge, talking about splash-back on his 'tits'.

Here's a clip if you cam stomach it:

It’s like Mary Cate Delvey’s “listen to transwomen” clips on Twitter!

ThreeWordHarpy · 19/11/2024 17:00

I can’t work out Jordan Grey. The infamous song that ended with his full frontal exposure seemed to be quite satirical when saying “I’m a girl, I’m a better girl than you and it’s allll about meeee”, up to the point he ripped off his dress. The premise for this program that TW are humans and some humans are unpleasant seems to be honest.

So like others, I can’t quite work out who his target audience are. Is he trying to pitch himself as the “reasonable” TW? I’ve seen him as a guest on programs such as The Last Leg and tbh he didn’t appear to have much to say away from his stage act.

teawamutu · 19/11/2024 15:14

It's basically Russell Brand with tits.

teawamutu · 19/11/2024 15:13

I've just watched the clip.

He really is saying the quiet part out loud, isn't he?

Yes it is interesting.

In JG's desire for authenticity he's strayed away from the dogma. He's right that that is groundbreaking in a way. But he's possibly hasn't realised that It was the quasi religious faith that allies have to proclaim as to the saintliness of trans people that keeps the unreasonable demands of hard core activists centered.

Some people will want to watch JG because trans IMO. It may even be funny thanks to Nick Frost. It intrigues me that they'll be laughing along at what would be considered transphobia if uttered by someone else. The cognitive dissonance might spark something in some of them.

Yes, it would be transphobic coming from anyone else. Imagine someone like Catherine Tate doing a sketch where she plays an unpleasant, misogynistic TW who insults women and urinates on their cars. It wouldn’t be accepted, unlike her closeted gay man and his “how very dare you” hiss.

RedToothBrush · 19/11/2024 14:15

The trouble is, like Alf Garnett, the idea is that you laugh at the intolerance of the main character.

Yet when they asked viewers about Alf Garnett they found that many sympathised with him and it legitimised their own intolerance.

This isn't something that's unknown by any stretch either.

So to then make a modern day series apparently along the lines of the same premise, to me isn't believable.

I'm deeply cynical about the motivation.

On top of that, even if that is the motivation you run the risk of pissing off your trans allies and worshipful trans people. Or you run the risk of legitimise a deeply unpleasant representation as 'fact'.

Somewhere in the middle of that, there has to be funny - which isn't shitting all over women on the recieving end - with some actual jokes. The clip really isn't.

So I don't see where the audience is going to come from. It's a narrow niche target in an already niche potential audience.

It really sounds like it's in danger of missing the mark on just about every front.

From a buzzmag article, link here: www.buzzmag.co.uk/jordan-gray-comedian-first-transgender-second-is-it-a-bird-interview/

Towards the end of the article, Jordan explains the reasoning behind the show.

Jordan: “The buzz phrase for the show was ‘some people are dickheads, some people are transgender, ergo, some transgender people are dickheads!’ Rather than make me a super, suffering saint or over-sexualised villain, which we tend to get portrayed as let’s just make someone who’s a little bit of a knobhead. And that’s me!”

This is interesting, because as we know, activists have a tendency to view the trans community as a sacred caste. Jordan is admitting that there is good and bad in every group. And he’s right. But that’s exactly why women have been objecting to opening up our single-sex spaces to any man who says he’s a woman. We can’t be sure of anyone’s intentions. And even if they were all lovely and gentle and safe to be around, it doesn’t change the fact that our single-sex spaces exist for reasons of privacy and dignity - not just for our safety.

Interesting. Anyone watching it would surely be immediately unsympathetic to the TiM - he's a narcissistic twit.

Gosh this is going to age well.

Those viewing figures will be interesting.

Who is the audience for this?!

YesterdaysFuture · 18/11/2024 23:45

I think the character is supposed to be in the vein of characters like Rab C Nessbit, Alf Garnet, Steptoe etc horrible people that are likeable through their nastiness.

I can see the irony he is trying to do here, but it's very flat and messaging is all over the place.

This will be a big flop, a much bigger flop than his oestrogen shrunk penis.

As JG is being so honest, it would be insane, surely, if JG were a boundary trampling type who used women's spaces and took women's platforms....

Unless JG got a kick out of the gaslighting.

Shudder.

I think I'm going to press on with cheerfully believing he's playing a long game like that Josh something reality TV guy who pretended to be trans for months to show how any man can. If I ever see JG perhaps I'll give him a knowing wink.

OuterSpaceCadet · 18/11/2024 18:03

Agree about the flashing being a red flag.

But the sitcom sounds like it might actually be a bit funny. "Unsackable" reminds me a little of Family Guy's brilliant take on trans:

It sounds as if JG is well aware they are male, the humour seems to hinge on it. It's very different from TV where ones supposed to believe a transwoman is actually a female character or from productions that posthumously trans historical characters for being too non conforming.

As JG is being so honest, it would be insane, surely, if JG were a boundary trampling type who used women's spaces and took women's platforms....(I haven't googled so don't know!) Oh I guess the flashing is a boundary already crossed.

Hmm. It's a shame really. I don't think trans ideology (uptight, authoritarian, fond of euphemisms and labels) and humour really go together. Certainly where they intersect one is left with the impression that the person or show would be a whole lot funnier if they dropped trans ideology and just accepted that humans can be gay &/ gender non conforming and that's ok.

Mary Whitehouse will be spinning in her grave I tell you - spinning
Maybe itv will get lots of complaints?
Jordan Grey sounds like an unpleasant misogynist
(though I doubt that there’s a pleasant one)

StrongFemaleCharacter · 18/11/2024 14:46

Who is this aimed at though? Who is their target audience? It does seem to be a piss take out of the trans-community doesn't it?

WhereYouLeftIt · 18/11/2024 14:45

Sounds like the latest foray in Operation Let Them Speak.

ITV, bringing peaking to the nation!

Hmm. Whenever confronted by a flasher it's useful to flag up that deliberately exposing your penis is an act of sexual violence. Rape Crisis England have some useful guidance.
The fact that men repeatedly get away with this act demonstrates how little our institutions like the police really care about VAWG:

https://rapecrisis.org.uk/get-informed/types-of-sexual-violence/what-is-indecent-exposure-or-flashing/

quite. I was somewhat surprised when the delightful Mr. Gray played the piano with his knob on telly (who the hell thought that sentence could have been written even 5 years ago?) that instead of being up on a charge of indecent exposure he got rave reviews? WTF?

What is indecent exposure or flashing?

Indecent exposure or flashing is when someone shows their genitals in order to scare or upset another person. It is a form of sexual violence.

Why is ITV putting out such horrible transphobic drivel. Surely a real trans woman wouldn't behave just like.......... the very worst of men !

yourhairiswinterfire · 18/11/2024 12:26

and urinates on a female co-worker's car as revenge

Can't think of a better way to sum up the TRA movement than that. Males cocking their legs and pissing all over women's stuff, asserting their dominance and marking anything to do with women as their territory.

teawamutu · 18/11/2024 11:29

Jordan played my local theatre a few months ago.

Jordan needed a seat-filling service because so few full price tickets were sold. Even then, effectively free tickets were still available a couple of days before the gig.

Nick Frost is a draw. Jordan maybe not so much.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/11/2024 11:28

ITV have happily platformed uber-misogynistic comedy before. Look at Dapper Laughs.

In September 2014, his TV show, entitled Dapper Laughs: On the Pulll^, began on ITV22^, where he parodied a dating expert[4][5]
O'Reilly was heavily criticised in November 2014 when, soon after accusations that his show was degrading to women,[6] he joked that a female audience member was "gagging for a rape" at one of his live shows.[7] An online petitionn^ eventually gained 68,210 signatures with the hashtag #CancelDapper asked ITV to end the series.[8] On 10 November, ITV announced they were not renewing the series for a second season as a result.[9] A forthcoming Dapper Laughs tour was also cancelled.[8]

this is bloody brilliant! Has to have been commissioned by a Terf. If it's as bad as I think it will be then we can add it to the canon of "what the fuck were they thinking of?" sitcoms. Older posters may recall such classics of the genre as "curry and chips" "the melting pot" and "heil honey, I'm home". if you are not familiar then google is your friend-prepare to be, er, amazed.
