She writes:

Men with profitable platforms who are just beginning to realise it may no longer be in your best interests to call us feminists/allies 'bigots' and 'transphobes', and now pretend to understand that the tide is turning, do you REALLY think we haven't kept all the receipts....?!

Oh dear, Campbell and Stuart, I think she might have hit on something there ... YOur dismissive attitudes to women's rights (to single sex spaces, fair sports, safety if imprisoned, ability to name what and who we are, ability to use our language about our bodies) - yes all those unimportant things - turns out they were actually pretty significant in the world's most powerful country.

Brava Ms Duffield!

This 'debate' has been going on for years now, if you see the majority of the T supporter being young, doesn't that indicate that they move away from the cause as they get older. Replaced with yet more students?

Ive noticed that the make up of the demonstrations haven't changed in years - students and middle aged men.

ainkeepsfalling · 13/11/2024 12:00

Looking at any group photo of the LGBAlliance or the KJK rallies almost everyone there is from the older generations. Amongst the younger generations almost everyone is LGBT supportive including trans. And anytime the two groups meet at a rally/protest you can clearly see it's basically older generation vs younger generation.

I'm not convinced that's true. A few years ago my own dc and their friends (20's/30's) were totally TWAW, be kind etc. They hadn't really thought too much about it but are now much more aware of issues surrounding women's spaces/sports etc.

Friends whose kids are teenagers have said it's no longer "cool" to be trans in school - a couple of years ago it was popular to claim various gender identities, the novelty seems to be wearing off.

Tlikestotalk · 13/11/2024 10:46

We're watching in real time women's efforts, activism and voices being erased and downplayed - a tale as old as time.
Now cowardly men feel safe enough to say something they will delude themselves and everyone around them to believe they were opposed and spoke out from the start. And when the women (JK, Kellie-Jay, Megan Murphy etc) say ummmm actually, we've been hear for years telling you this the men tell them to be polite! It's infuriating to watch. They're using the exact same tactics the TRA use.

RoyalCorgi · 13/11/2024 10:38

You may be surprised at how many younger women, young mothers in particular, are not on board with TWAW and all that nonsense.

What makes me laugh - in a mirthless kind of way - is that for the past several years trans activists have done everything they can to stop women speaking out. Women were chucked off Twitter. They were reported to the police. They were reported to their employers. (Some were disciplined or sacked as a result.) They were threatened with rape, with murder, with social ostracisation.

Then, when they are too afraid to say anything publicly, trans activists shout: "Look! Everyone agrees with us!"

I'm afraid people like Chris and his chums are in for a very nasty shock when they discover just how few people there are who actually agree with this crap.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/11/2024 10:23

What are the plans for the great gender critical movement in 10, 20, 30 years?

Hopefully we won't need it, because the world will have come to its senses.

eatfigs · 13/11/2024 09:29

Christinapple · 11/11/2024 16:33

Why do people with gender critical views keep saying "the tide is turning"?

What are the plans for the great gender critical movement in 10, 20, 30 years? The number of gender critical people will be much lower and the remaining ones will be mostly elderly and the now-young generation who are trans-supportive will be the ones in charge of the Gov and media.

The tide will turn yes, but not the way you think or want it to.

You may be surprised at how many younger women, young mothers in particular, are not on board with TWAW and all that nonsense.

The trans activist movement benefitted from a relative lack of scrutiny for many years. That's no longer the case and that's why support has dipped so sharply in the past few years as people understand what it's really about.

We were all young once, and many of us happily and vociferously espoused many nonsensical societal and political views. What happened? We grew up, understood the world and reality better, and moderated or changed our stance on many things, as will you, I hope, because if not, you will not have learned much at all over the course of your life.

Those GC women who protest have been in danger of losing their livelihoods so young women who need their career do not dare challenge the people you support. But we all grow older, become financially stable and learn that truth matters. The tide will turn - because it always does - and the tide is governed by the Moon, a female in most religions. Bear it in mind because the Moon, especially in the incarnation of Artemis/Diana is not especially kind.

Good point miri1985. They don't want their own witch trial.

I wonder if AC outsources the basis of any other of his political views to his daughter? Or just the unimportant ones?

This is such a good point.
I'm sure Campbell has opinions on student debt which come from his understanding of economics, as well as his beliefs about what society owes the young and vice versa. Rather than just asking his daughter what she thinks, because she's a student and a young person.
I'm going to be thinking about the ramifications of this for a while.

@miri1985 "I almost teared up listening to the Rest is History when they acknowledged that political violence was still occuring and Tom Holland mentioned that Rosie Duffield had had to cancel her hustings because of threats."
I had a similar experience, and when David Runciman had Kathleen Stock on his podcast. I don't think Holland and Runciman share alot of gender critical feminist beliefs but they responded so humanely to the really obvious bullying and nastiness that Stock and Duffield and others were exposed to. That's a whole other element to how disappointing so many public commentators have been - even if you yourself believe TWAW or whatever, does the bullying and trying to get people sacked and all not turn your stomach?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 12/11/2024 20:20

Frankly, I would like the so called "left" to be banished until they have become sensible again and focused on what is important: worker's rights, women's rights and economic re- distribution of wealth. The US election is a national rebuke of left wing useless wokery.

illinivich · 12/11/2024 20:07

They are serious political experts talking about serous political things, so arent that interested in the day to day lives of women. Especially women they dont associate with.

AC especially probably made up his mind when labour and conservatives were on the same page, so again never thought of it as a political issue.

Saying you've "listened to the witch trials of JKR" is the "Jolly Good Person's Not My Circus But I Know Allllll About It" designed to shut down the discussion and belittle anyone who makes any more of a deal of it as a drama queen.

I've met a couple of them. Subject quickly changes to holidays in Portugal.

I think as well most people listening to the witch trials of JKR are rightly outraged at what happened to her and what is continuing to happen to children and womens rights but Rory probably heard a cautionary tale of what happens when you say the emperor has no clothes.

Both Rory and Alastair want to stay out of this so in however long they can say its all settled either "isn't this medical scandal awful" or "we knew all along there was no difference between women and trans women".

I could see the scorn for women in their US election coverage, women were going to save the day and vote in huge numbers for Harris and as soon as they didn't it was all their fault even though a majority of women voted for her.

They are smart men but incredibly selfish just look at when it comes to the environment, they will espouse green talking points all day but have ridiculous carbon footprints but justify it to themselves because they're so important.

WarriorN · 12/11/2024 17:46

For JKR, and Glosswitch, as for all of us, there just isn't a debate to be had here. Which is why she'd most likely not go on their podcast.

Which sounds hypocritical but it's just not possible for men to be women.

Someone mentioned Gia Milinovich here but I can’t find a podcast series by her. Can you help me please? Or what to listen specifically by her? Thank you

WarriorN · 12/11/2024 16:49

Oh another one I'll add to my list, thanks. Hannah is particularly insightful and I'm always impressed at how she understands British cultural stuff and feminism.

YellowAsteroid · 12/11/2024 15:38

Indeed, @RoyalCorgi

Another podcast recommendation (I walk about 2 hours a day and listen to a lOT of podcasts as I go!)

Jen Izaakson & Hannah Berelli, RedFem pod. The latest ep features a magnificent rant by Hannah about the way that the podcasting bros have ignored this issue and are now waking up.

They're sometimes very frustrating in their rambling, but worth listening to for the wonderful give no fucks rants. And for Marxists, they have a verrry interesting take on the election of Trump.

OP posts:
RoyalCorgi · 12/11/2024 14:53

It's so strange to see this sudden change with all the bros now talking about an issue that has been beneath their notice for so long. It's quite something.

I'm reminded of that famous exchange in Hemingway:

“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked. “Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”

YellowAsteroid · 12/11/2024 11:38

In complete contrast, Justin Webb made a doughty defence of women's rights (the old-fashioned kind) on Americast last week (a BBC podcast) in their analysis of what happened.

And the podcast Double Jeopardy is stoutly & rationally sex realist - they've had Kathleen Stock & Akua Reindorf as guests over the time they've been podcasting.

Was this the episode titled ‘Why Trump won (and why Harris lost)’ on 8 November? I want to listen to the right one and the Americast podcast has prolific output.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 11/11/2024 16:55

The tide HAS turned in the USA and a lot of women on here correctly called it.

I would rather listen to any two regular posters on here chat for an hour than these wankers.

The Rest is Bluestocking?

Would love this (and IADNBU)

WorriedMutha · 12/11/2024 14:26

Although Campbell has been beyond infuriating in ducking this issue, his journey could be useful in reaching a bigger audience. I know he has said dismissive things before and I strongly suspect his entire view is shaped by his daughter so he hasn't ever had to delve any deeper.
I have a mental list of the GC journalists such as Justin Webb, David Aaranovitch, Matthew D'Ancona, Andrew Neil, Sonia Sodha, Janice Turner. There are also the totally lost troons such as Owen Jones, Zoe Williams, Peter Jukes. Then there are the cowards who can't speak truth to power and I classify most of the rest in that group. Campbell has languished in the third group for too long but his podcast does have reach and now that he has nowhere to hide, he needs to devote some time to airing this and hopefully operation let them speak will help peak the nation.

teawamutu · 12/11/2024 13:56

I'll add that TRIP US has been a joy - the Mooch was very direct about voters not wanting boys in girls' sports and men in women's bathrooms and turning away from the Dems as a result. And Katty Kay neither contradicted him nor policed his language, which was a relief.

Yes @nauticant - and it took me back to Sarah Smith's antagonistic interview of Graham Linehan on Newsnight. But the heartening this on Americast was that Mr Webb pushed back against Ms Smith, and didn't back off.

As a Today programme listener, I've long been aware of Mr Webb's general views, and he's written a book where he's very direct about women's roles - in relation to his account of his mother; I offered the example of Americast as a specific counter to TRIP waffling.

Omg that was her? I listen to Americast and I hadn't clocked she was the one who did that awful attack interview on Glinner.

What a shame, I had some respect for her before. There's potentially a personal axe to grind there, then?
