Fucking hell. No one should be celebrating this. Even if you think trans stuff for kids should be rolled back, that's what should happen - rolling back not sudden stop.

And this paragraph is some serious handmaids tale stuff. No woman with an ounce of self worth would applaud anything trump says or does:

As part of our new credentialing body for teachers, we will promote positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers, and celebrating rather than erasing the things that make men and women different and unique.

You know what that means? No trans treatment and women get back in the kitchen where you belong.

Define “trans treatment”?

The rise in drug deaths in America is also due to the fact that fentanyl is such an absolute arse of a drug and often mixed with/sold as other drugs so people don't even know that's what they are taking. It's so potent and it takes such a ridiculously tiny amount to overdose on. I suspect any war on drug gangs could end up going the way it went with Duterte in the Philippines (police executions and human rights abuses. Also the police just took over the drug trade). But I can see why people would vote for him if they were desperate for someone to improve the situation and he was saying he would.

I think that's true as far as it goes, but it doesn't account for the results we see in places that have tried decriminalization and harm reduction approaches.

I think part of the issue is that to certain people, that feels like the kind response. Give addicts a place to shoot up. Give them safe drugs. Understand that they commit petty crime due to addiction and it's not really their fault. Make sure we have drugs like Narcan in public places like libraries.

And sometimes that does work out for some individuals, you get people saved from overdose. And that is presented as people "saved" by harm reduction strategies.

But it ignores the second order affects on the community, and also on the way people who are addicts, or at risk of becoming addicts, see their own addiction, and the effects of that.

There was a prominent safe supply activist in Canada not long ago who made it his mission to supply safe drugs to addicts. He does of an overdose himself. The problem is, addiction will kill large numbers of people eventually, it's almost a kind of slow suicide, and making it appear safer tends to obscure that fact.

Addicts are great at hiding from reality, it's when it hits them in the guts that they can sometimes make a real change.

Plus - it does affect others. I used to live in a neighborhood where an injection site went in. It absolutely affected people there, who were themselves mainly low income people without a lot of political voice.

Trump may well be a convicted sex criminal.

He hasn't actively encouraged the sterilisation of children, the placing of rapists in womens jails, and women being punched in the face as an Olympic sport.

As far as devil and the deep blue sea goes, I suppose people look at the risk of being sexually assaulted by Trump as low and the risk of thousands of children being sterilised as worse.

I know, it’s absolutely this. You’re completely right.

I think Trump will harm women and women’s rights in a myriad of other ways, both blatant and subtle, direct and indirect. He will embolden the misogynists and incels while ignoring states taking away women’s healthcare rights. And there’s all of the other issues with corruption that will undoubtedly affect women disproportionately.

But I get it. All of those things are for four years. Hold your nose and get through it - there’s nothing there that can’t be steadily undone.

Conversely, the gender laws and erosion of women’s safety, the mutilation of children - another four years of that is four more years of permanent damage, and of entrenching gender ideology in society that will make it virtually impossible to undo. That was a much bigger risk for many, with more tangible, everyday harm.

So I do understand. I’m just utterly utterly dismayed that a man like Trump can hold a position of power. And I wouldn’t normally say that about another party, even if I am deeply opposed to their views. Trump is on another level though - he tried to undermine democracy and continues to do so.

It says a lot when such a truly reprehensible individual is still better than the alternative.

It was a terrible choice voters were faced with at this election. I just hope the changes re gender ideology are pushed through and not just hot air. Fingers crossed.

Portugal used to have a low rate of drug related deaths, but not anymore.

Aye, a 'war on drugs' doesn't work but that doesn't necessarily mean that decriminalisation does, either.

Other countries have tried full-scale wars on illegal drug suppliers. All it does is result in overcrowded prisons and deaths while doing absolutely nothing to prevent people who want to get hold of these drugs doing so.

Scotland often tops the drug OD deaths per 100k in Europe, whilst countries like Portugal who have decriminalised all drugs are all at the bottom.

Criminalisation doesn't work.

Nor does decriminalisation just look at San Francisco and parts or Toronto

The US airforce has bombed South American cocaine plantations in the past. I think as part of Regan's War On Drugs in the 80s.
It does interest me that Trump in no way positons gender distressed young people as freaks, or makes any appeals to bringing back the days when boys were boys and girls were girls, or some such.
Maybe because it's a scripted speech to camera. But he's never been afraid of saying whatever insane thing occurs to him, like injecting bleach, or illegal immigrants eating your pets, or whatever.
This is so measured and straight down the line, a wish list of what I want to see for gender distressed children and young people in my own country.

Yes, it really is straight down the middle. It is aimed squarely at the perpetrators and facilitators of the ideology, not its vulnerable victims. And with some very clear outcomes for a video made a year ago.

I don't think Trump is a convicted sex criminal. He's convicted of accounting irregularities/ fraud.

Many women have accused him of sexual crimes, and I believe them, but he's never been convicted.

When provable lies are stated as truth and repeated then his supporters dismiss everything, including the true things, as lies. And they're not entirely unreasonable to do so, because the people lying have shown themselves to be liars. This is partly why we're here, along with the Dems being so unelectable.

To be entirely accurate, he was convicted of sexual assault but it was a civil trial by jury, not a criminal trial.

So I guess it depends how you define “convicted”. I’m happy to describe any man found guilty by any type of jury as a convicted sex pest albeit not technically a “criminal”. So I will correct myself there.

I do think it’s playing with semantics though. Found guilty of sex crimes and lying in court - regardless of the type of court - just reinforces everything that we already know about Donald “grab them by the pussy” Trump. He’s still guilty of sexual assault.

@SpidersAreShitheads
I was referring specifically to the topic at hand.
Enjoying being depressed for at least four years if not more, even if Trump makes good progress on gender.

As I said, I genuinely hope there are people that will push this issue through because that’s what we all want isn’t it?

It’s difficult to see it as a single issue though when Trump is so poor on pretty much all other areas relating to women’s rights. It’s a hollow victory.

I will keep an eye on the gender issue but other than that I’ll just stay away from US politics. I can’t do another 4 years - or more if Project 2025 comes to fruition.

If the gender woo is reversed and biological sex rights for women reinstated then at least something good will have come from something bad. Let’s hope.

It's not just this issue that lead to people voting Trump, it's the economy and the divide between rich and poor getting wider and a lot of Americans going from being ok to not feeling at all ok financially. Then seeing rich elites denigrate them and their concerns while spending millions of taxpayer money on vanity projects. Trans ideology is just the most obvious example of elite insanity and total denial of reality in an Orwellian anti-democratic way.

If Trump was not surrounded by clever people, he wouldn't have got his message out so effectively and he wouldn't have won. So there are definitely people with brains behind the scenes. Whether they're going to hurt or harm the world is yet to be seen. However the alternative were clever people who were totally ok with pushing forward with child sterilisation despite mounting evidence that what they were doing was wrong, who just doubled down when faced with e.g. the cass review . So they wouldn't obviously have been better.

Maybe give him a chance before you assume he's failed before he even enters office?
Look at it this way. You can either be positive and happy, or negative and depressed in the intervening time between now, when he becomes president again, and the time it takes him to put his many policies into effect.
How much success he has in implementing his policies will take time to assess, and it's up to you if you go around happy or depressed during this time.
My guess is he will have some success and some failure, we just have to wait to see where it falls.
What he has laid out seems pretty positive on this subject to me. Other subjects I am less keen on.

Nope, sorry. He’s a vile excuse for a human and I judge him on his lengthy track record. He’s already had multiple chances and failed each time.

I really hope that the Republicans reverse the gender shite, and it may be that they will. But Trump was notorious for spending his days on the golf course and doing as little work as possible. So if anything does happen, the chances are it will be because people around him have pushed the issue. It would be great if that proves to be the case as children really do deserve to be properly protected from harmful ideology, and women deserve to be safe.

As for Trump himself, he’s proven repeatedly to be morally bankrupt. He is self-serving and self-interested and a thoroughly nasty piece of work. He has had multiple chances to prove himself and all he’s ever done is prove that he cares about himself.

I do feel utterly depressed that such a problematic and corrupt individual is in a position of power. Especially as he’s ensured that those around him will just acquiesce this time around. He’s already trying to take short cuts in the Senate to get his own way.

I’m normally quite resilient in defeat but not this time. I can’t find the words to express how horrified I am. I can’t believe that the Republican Party were willing to endorse a convicted sex criminal with more trials pending, just to win. He should have never been allowed to progress.

The Democrats are also to blame. Kamala always had a tough hill to climb to convert voters and the increasing light being shone on the stupidity of gender ideology meant that they were exposed for their idiotic policies.

It’s just a mess all round.

Mittens67 · 11/11/2024 09:01

It makes me so angry that men in frocks ( who started the trans issue) have affected the safety of the entire planet.
Of course I am very concerned about protecting women and children against this ideology but we are now looking at what is primarily male sexual fetish has brought us to a situation where voters are so angry ( understandably) that they vote on a single issue opening the path to a convicted sex pest, liar, misogynist who denies climate change and embraces putin.
The world will be irrevocably harmed basically because some blokes get an erection from wearing female clothes in public and misguided well meaning others have drank the kool aid in the name of diversity and inclusion without any critical thinking being applied.

Yes. Trump declaring the youth going through "so called gender affirming care" as the main victims of gender ideology makes me think that he or someone in his team really understands the problem.

The thing is though, Trump said a lot of things. Including the fact that he thought immigrants should be made to wrestle professional UFC fighters in the ring.

His mouth makes promises that his brain doesn’t register, and his heart doesn’t care about.

We might be lucky enough to have people around Trump that push the issue but don’t rely on what he said. He’s neither trustworthy or reliable.

I’m sure he does believe in biological sex. He certainly knows what a woman is when he wants to sexually assault one. But women’s rights and safety have never been a priority for Trump, and never will be. I see there’s already talk of him going after the judge that found him guilty - that’s what his focus is. Himself. As always.

I guess there is a hope that the issue might get pushed if Trump thinks it will increase his popularity. But he probably doesn’t think he needs that kind of lift right now as everyone seems to have voted for him. Depressingly.

Crossing the border into Tranada for "treatment" may not be quite such a doddle in future.

There is an election there in less than a year's time, and an average of polls currently puts the Conservatives on 41.8% and the Liberals on 23%.
