I’ve been told off on TikTok for defending women’s rights to HRT

Apparently women like us are the cause of other people being denied “life saving” HRT. When I queried what life threatening illness required HRT I was told it was “gender affirming care”. And that such people should take priority (due to possible depression and suicide) over 50yo women going through a perfectly natural stage of their life.

i could scream. And the sad thing is I’m too scared to answer back in case of a pile on, internet stalking, doxxing, etc.

I suppose that under that hypothesis, women who are on 'hormone blockers' for endometriosis or adenomyosis are also robbing TIMs of 'life-saving' drugs Envy

@MyrtleStrumpet "Arguing with them makes you right but won't change anything.

You won't change their minds and they will bait you because they want to waste your time and energy on arguing with them. And they use your arguments to feed their AI bots and beat you again in a year's time. Don't feed them."

I have a different perspective to this. I agree that no-one will change the minds of TIMs determined to see themselves as the victims. BUT a gender critical viewpoint which challenges some of the hyperbole they come up will be seen by anyone else. Many people tend to believe the hyperbole and say things like "it hurts no-one, why are you being unkind?" Unless they can be persuaded by coherent, articulate GC arguments.

And apparently trans women average life expectancy is 35. Am now telling them how dim they are and they need to stop parroting bollocks. But it’s hard to argue coherently with the character limit!

I've always found that "You are a bell end" fits the limit fine, and when repeated over and over bores them into stopping responding.

Best advice I ever had was, do you want to be right or effective?

Arguing with them makes you right but won't change anything.

Walking away is hard but it's the best thing to do.

It's typical. On Twitter I pointed out that women need certain forms of HRT in order to reverse uterine hyperplasia and prevent cancer.

Apparently, the special men should come first.

Just to explain: I'm currently on Kliofem (combined HRT for post-menopausal women), plus I've had a Mirena fitted. I've to stay on this combination for 6 months, prior to getting another hysteroscopy.

(I've only recently discovered that the special men take progesterone as well as oestrogen...Maybe they should be offered coils? Could be interesting...)

Sorry to hear that. Did you come through it okay? I'm still on bioidentical HRT with no plans to ever stop.

Yes thank you, mostly all good now and has been for a couple of years. But it was pretty unpleasant at the time for me and those close round. My GP has been fantastic.

ChangingChangingMe · 09/11/2024 00:03

gender affirming care…
…50yo women going through a perfectly natural stage of their life.

What I do not understand is, if biological sex is irrelevant to gender identity, how is this not simply a perfectly natural state for trans people?

XChrome · 08/11/2024 23:57

Grumpysawus · 08/11/2024 23:52

Absolutely this - my main/worst symptom was depression and wanting to disappear, similar to when I had PND.

Fuck them. Natural or not, menopause can cause depression and suicidal ideation as well. But I guess we should just suck that up, what with the whole not being born with a penis thing. Our pain is trivial. Their discomfort, otoh, is a tragedy.
Don't engage any further with those lunatics unless you enjoy banging your head against a wall. You absolutely cannot reason with them.

You'll be up against the Dunning-Kruger effect with this one, most likely. Full of rage, certainty and self-righteousness.

But yes, well done for challenging the crazy. I hope you aren't too upset by these braindead comments.

No but if it carries on I may have to block them. I normally just watch cute cat videos and this is spoiling my TikTok experience 😁

Who told me if menopausal women are depressed they should get antidepressants not HRT.

Fucking misogynist idiot.

BunfightBetty · 08/11/2024 22:36

Epic male entitlement, right there.

While you can't argue with stupid (or narcissistic), you can give food for thought for anyone reading who isn't completely deranged. Well done for taking up the cudgels.

I caved in and am now replying to comments, getting a total barrage from one deluded person now. Who told me if menopausal women are depressed they should get antidepressants not HRT. But can’t see the irony in the fact they say trans women need HRT due to their depression and suicide risk 🙈🤷‍♀️

Irony bypasses people with an overblown sense of entitlement.

Women need HRT. For men, HRT is a want, not a need. That sense of male entitlement again.

Course they think like that. Middle aged women are basically background noise, 10 a penny. The idea that we might not see ourselves that way, might actually consider ourselves to be unique and individual human beings with as much worth and inner life under our cardies and softening tummies as they have under their gender-affirming cosplay is something they simply aren't able to conceive.

Beautifully put, and so true.

Yes correlation does not equal causation as they say. Their increased mortality rate is likely to be a symptom of their psychiatric/mental health issues the same as their gender dysphoria is a symptom of their psychiatric/mental health issues.

sad for them but not fair to think that women with a physical health issue should suffer just to pander to them. Very entitled.

This study answers the question I was thinking - if suicide is more likely, once you control for other psychiatric conditions the people have - and no, no it isn't:

Finnish nationwide cohort of all <23 year-old gender-referred adolescents in 1996–2019 (n=2083) and 16 643 matched controls.
<snip>
However, when specialist-level psychiatric treatment was controlled for, neither all-cause nor suicide mortality differed between the two groups: HR for all-cause mortality among gender-referred adolescents was 1.0 (95% CI 0.5 to 2.0) and for suicide mortality was 1.8 (95% CI 0.6 to 4.8).
