A teacher has been struck off after ridiculing her school's gender identity policy and posting transphobic comments online.

Camilla Hannan, 54, posted offensive remarks including 'where I teach the trans kids are untouchable' while working at the school in Manchester.

The teacher, who had been employed at the school since 2001, also wrote of trans students: 'They get everything they ask for and everyone, staff and other students alike, is petrified of upsetting them. They don't seem oppressed to me more like oppressors tbh.'

Hannan admitted all the allegations against her and accepted they amounted to unacceptable professional conduct.

A Teaching Regulation Agency misconduct hearing said the behaviour demonstrated a lack of tolerance and respect for the rights and beliefs of others.

Massively unprofessional - she identified specific students.

I teach a [REDACTED] who has changed [REDACTED] pronouns to [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] name to [Pupil A]. I worry about what the next steps will be;

One of my [REDACTED] students is on [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] has become quite hyperactive and emotionally up and down. I worry for [REDACTED];

I think it makes clear they were [sex] [his/her pronouns] [her/his pronouns] [her/his pronoun] to [actual preferred name of student]

Then there's

The autistic/ASD [REDACTED] I teach are all plastered with trans flags and badges, without exception.

So anybody she teaches who is of one sex and is known to have a ASD diagnosis is therefore publicly being announced as trans, as confirmed later in the document

' In particular, Miss Hannan had revealed the identity of Pupil A via social media, and had also revealed sensitive medical information about Pupil A, and that this potentially exposed Pupil A to the risk of bullying'

'In particular, the panel found that Miss Hannan had a deep-seated attitude, and that, whilst she was entitled to have that attitude and hold the views that she did, it was not acceptable for her to have posted these on social media in a way that was damaging to the profession, the School, pupils and in particular Pupil A (who she had “outed” by name).'

She fully earned the striking off for that.

She was found to have outed a student on social media, continually misgenderes a student (the same person?), and I think we can all guess some of the words that could have been redacted in the quote above.

Of course this person isn't suitable to be working as a teacher.

SensibleSigma · 23/10/2024 19:15

It’s not acceptable to talk about students like that.

I wondered if the redacted word was "girls" as that could suggest it was an all girls school (when the school is meant to be anonymous)

Yes I think you’re right.

I found the following: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6718a26c38149ce9d09e3876/TRAT_MPO_Hannan_Camilla_SoS_decision_redacted__updated_.pdf

Seems like some of her ranting about students took quite a personal tone, rather than more general gender critical posts like Rachel Meade.

It also doesn’t appear to have been particularly well locked down, although she also wasn’t immediately identifiable from the posts interestingly.

Well shes right to be. That's part of the teachers contract.

I’d also be interested to know what word has been redacted from the below:

’The autistic/ASD (redacted) I teach are all plastered with trans flags and badges, without exception.'

if anyone has another source with the full tweet

It does nobody any favours when employees breach their social media guidelines. She may be right about special treatment but you don't post identifiable information about a school or children online. If you do, then you face the consequences.

How locked down was her social media?

Doesn't matter from an employer's perspective- locked social media still has to abide by organisational social media policies as locked content can still be leaked (as this case reveals)

Sounds less like it was gender critical and more a teacher ranting about her students, which isn't okay.

Plasmodesmata · 23/10/2024 19:05

The article makes it sound like she mentioned particular pupil "pupil A".

That will be against the school's social media policy, as it should be.

Not a very professional thing to post on social media about children in your care, regardless of your beliefs.
