Women's Equality Party and Chris Kaba

Tweets yesterday and today lamenting Kaba's death.

This was a violent criminal who was subject to a restraining order from his then-pregnant girlfriend.

Why are WEP tweeting in support of him?

The Women's Equality Party.
Speaking up for men who beat up women.

Even more incorrrect and iffy decisions made by the Womens Equality Party.

Which is what the thread is about.

The thread police have arrived!

'If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.'

Chris Kaba was a violent abusive thug who hurt women.

The WEP are a disgrace.

George Floyd had been to jail many times but I don't believe he deserved to be killed by the police.

I believe Kaba was murdered by the police, that doesn't mean I support his criminality.

Because common sense has completely left the building.

There have been many incorrect decisions made by juries.

I'm of two minds on this.

Firstly I don't think this was a racist shooting.

Secondly - while I think they are wrong to defend this guy as if he were innocent, I also don't think that there can be such a thing as a one issue political party. Any political party, if it actually runs candidates, who could potentially win and sit as MPs, needs more than that. How can I vote for a candidate when I know nothing about her stance on other issues, like taxes, or the war in the Ukraine?

It's possibly an argument against one issue political parties.

The WEP have been a constant disappointment for years. That they speak up in support of a man with a history of VAWG, not to mention a gang member who used guns in London shows their level of commitment to the safety of women and the rest of society.

It's like they've been infiltrated and are actually being run by MRAs.

You have to wonder who wrote that don't you?

For the record, the car was targeted by the police as it had been involvd in a shooting incident the previous day. The police did not know who was driving the car.

I see. You were under the impression that they only mentioned women.

I'm under the impression that they're a pointless waste of fucking space.

Absolutely, though I would go so far as to say they're actively harmful to the cause of women's equality and safety.

His criminal history wasn't released because the police wouldn't have been aware of it at the time of the killing. The judge believed it was irrelevant.

I haven't really followed this (and didn't know Chris Kaba was black although I suppose it shouldn't surprise me)
but, I was under the impression his history was not made public previously? therefore it would look like the usual case of police violence towards black men, which it seems it wasn't as simple as that?

They're saying that the Met is institutionally racist and another unarmed black man has been shot.

I don't believe a police officer has ever been found guilty of murder so the outcome was predictable.

He was armed with a 2 ton motor vehicle.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/10/2024 22:00

Cor they’re a bunch of fucking useless twerps aren’t they?

username1589 · 22/10/2024 21:59

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/10/2024 21:55

So women’s equality has been achieved then? Time for them to branch out and campaign for other things?

Evidently.

username1589 · 22/10/2024 21:58

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 22/10/2024 21:54

Chris Kaba was not a woman.

My sympathies are with the woman that he abused.

A black woman is interested in discrimination and violence against black people. I wasn't aware that they were campaigning for him. They also mention lack of funding for councils but don't mention women.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/10/2024 21:55

username1589 · 22/10/2024 21:40

I see. You were under the impression that they only mentioned women. I had a quick glance at their Twitter account and they mention Black History Month, Windrush and Chris Kaba. They also mention other issues that don't specify women.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 22/10/2024 21:55

The Women’s Equality Party always makes me think of a scene from the first episode of the brilliant ‘Yes Minister.’ Wily civil servant Humphrey Appleby explained to his protege Bernard that when writing a policy paper, ‘You always dispose of the difficult bit in the title. It does less harm there.’

Dispose of the ‘Women’s’ bit in the party name & then forget about it. Given that WEP was tweeting in support of violent males practically from the start, I don’t believe they were ever aligned with their ostensible purpose.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 22/10/2024 21:54

username1589 · 22/10/2024 21:47

You don't believe in intersectionality? That there aren't black women ie Windrush and Black History Month or the Kaba case?

Chris Kaba was not a woman.

My sympathies are with the woman that he abused.
