I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

It really is funny how Chris fully embraces the upside down and inside out world of T. Let me fix that:

I've said it several times, the gender identity ideology movement harms all women. Women are now worried about the possibility of seeing men in their spaces, and so very occasionally a woman in a women's space is mistaken for a man who claims to be a woman. And no wonder in the current climate.

Also makes me concerned about women athletes being mistaken for men barging into women's sport, what with the noticeable increase in men claiming womanhood to play on women's teams.

This is like DARVO. All of the bad outcomes from men (and some women) pushing GII are women's fault? Somehow?

midgetastic · 13/10/2024 19:22

The gender critical Movement didnt cause this

Men cause this by insisting they can be women and making women feel more afraid than ever

The transgender movement caused this

Although I agree it's usually quite easy to tell male from female even with a cursory glance

Going to file this in the ‘didn’t happen’ folder.

I’ve seen lots of women in my life with alopecia, whether through stress or cancer treatment or any other reason, and they’ve not been mistaken for men.

Good try at having a stir, though. D-

I'm not sure if you concluded that after looking at her photo that was posted upthread; apparently she often posts about her alopecia and can seem rather androgynous, or even masculine to some, due to her baldness and athletic body shape. Others have also said she is gender-critical.

I'm not saying this should be attributed to natal women concerned about people who are not natal female using female-only spaces and female objection to male intrusion should not be dismissed, but I don't know if I would confidently claim she made it up.

Josette77 · 13/10/2024 19:17

That's awful that happened to her. 😢

I'm always surprised people can always tell if someone's a man or woman. Trans women in my experience don't often pass, but I absolutely see very manly looking women who could be mistaken for trans. Not because they are bald, they present feminine but have masculine features.

I thought Rain was a man for ages. I had the biggest crush!

I find it highly improbable that a woman without hair has been mistaken for a man. We've all seen women with alopecia and those undergoing cancer treatment. They still present - very obviously - as women.
Whatever happened was clearly to do with something else entirely.

This!

It'll be a long wait.
I hope you have snacks...

I'm pretty sure it happened (to ONE woman), but think the woman who did the attacking was probably disturbed

NPET · 13/10/2024 18:50

I'm a bit suspicious. Feel sorry for her if it's true but if it is, it sounds like the woman who shouted has a problem. I'd only say something if genuinely SURE it was a man.

Portakalkedi · 13/10/2024 18:49

IF this is true, and not sure it is, then the person doing the shouting would not do so it had been a bald man, and yes I would imagine 99% of us can tell the difference. What I would like to read is that women are confronting men who are wrongly in their private spaces, but sadly most if not all women are afraid to do that.

TheaBrandt · 13/10/2024 18:46

Yes I was also mistaken for a boy when I was about 12 and my mother insisted I had a page boy hair cut. We all found it quite funny. Balanced against the too many to count instances of harassment from men it pales into absolute insignificance.

wincarwoo · 13/10/2024 18:40

@TofuTart being mistaken for a boy (I was numerous times) is not the worst thing in the world.

This. You can tell the difference.

1. Women are responsible for what men do.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/10/2024 18:14

Not challenging anyone is case we get it wrong and upset a woman? And just get used to the fact that people we are 99% sure are men are using women only facilities?

That's exactly why TRAs and their allies are so fond of posting this type of account.

illinivich · 13/10/2024 18:12

What do we do?

Not challenging anyone is case we get it wrong and upset a woman? And just get used to the fact that people we are 99% sure are men are using women only facilities?

Or do we challenge who we think are men, maybe cause a bit of upset and embarrassment, but not get used to the idea that men following girls into public toilets?

Id rather be challenged 100 times rather than in girl feel intimated in her space.

I feel for the woman, but i think she should think about what she is asking of us.

AliasGrace47 · 13/10/2024 18:03

GirlOvdrboard, I get the vibe that a lot of the women on the butch subreddits are the genuine women. However, one is more open to gender woo & I think on reflection some, but not all, of the bathroom posts I've read may have been by natal men who are only butch lesbians in their imaginations and rightfully challenged.

hihelenhi · 13/10/2024 17:56

the gender critical movement harms all women

No, the anti gender critical (aka anti-feminist) movement harms all women.

That's because the anti feminist movement and pro-"gender" (pro-sex stereotypes) movement is entirely built on misogyny and support of MRAs.

Happy to help. I do wonder why the projection is SO constant with you lot. Is it because you have no coherent arguments of your own or any integrity so you have to make things up? Isn't that a bit sad? After all, genuine civil rights movements have never had to do this.

hihelenhi · 13/10/2024 17:50

And as pointed out before, with evidence, you know, from actual scientists rather than propaganda made up by genderwoo addled zealots and fantasists, most adults can identify the correct sex of a person 100% of the time.

Regardless of hairstyle (or even lack of hair). As was pointed out in a study I posted on another thread. Which replicated many of the same results before it.

Tootsurly · 13/10/2024 17:50

By "all women" I assume you mean not just the ones with penises?

FlirtsWithRhinos · 13/10/2024 17:49

I believe it happened. It has always happened. I looked like a boy as a kid and sometimes someone would say "hey sonny that's the ladies" and I'd say "I'm a girl" and they would look closer and say "sorry duck in you go". They never accused me of being a trans girl because, while obviously even then people knew some men or boys might believe they feel like "a girl", the idea that those males might believe they had the right to be in the ladies because of it was not on anyone's radar.

So to summarise:

A small number of women taken briefly as the opposite sex and challenged about it? Always happened.

A small number of women taken as being the opposite sex and accused of being an entitled transwoman is new, and it happens now and not then because the general public is now aware that transwomen feel entitled to appropriate seingle sex resources. The cat is well and truly out of the bag on that one.

But what I find both telling and damning is that TRAs and other gender-first posters are so full of concern that the increasing awareness that transwomen are using female single sex spaces might lead to the "collateral damage" of some natal women being mistaken for transwomen and suffering hurt feelings, yet utterly silent that accepting transwomen should have a right to female single sex spaces has already lead to the collateral damage of children and women being insulted, excluded and abused by trans women in women's spaces.

One might, might, almost wonder whether these TRAs and their allies are not in fact motivated by concern for women at all, but simply acting true to form in seeing women only when useful to trans politics.

TheaBrandt · 13/10/2024 17:49

I have had several similar ish instances with mentally unwell women in public places. One said I was good looking so was sure to have problems with having female friends wtf.

One lady shoved dd2 and said “I fucking hate teenagers!”. Neither incident prompted me to take to twitter and conclude there needs to be a wholesale change in the way society operates to benefit men 🙄🙄. They clearly both were slightly mentally challenged.

Yes, those are my thoughts exactly, as I said upthread.

hihelenhi · 13/10/2024 17:47

TofuTart · 13/10/2024 15:11

Funny how people take it as gospel it must have happened if it's a "gender critical' anecdote on here, but as soon it's not fitting in with your view it's "chinny reckon" "must be lying's" all round.

That's probably because we do use actual evidence, that's the thing.

Unlike Christina, who is fairly well known on here for spouting unevidenced (and usually directly debunked) rubbish and then running off when called out to plot some more bullshit for another day.
