I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

This screenshot was doing the rounds a few years ago. anyone can write anything on SM you know.

oh you mean like this one I saw a few days ago?

Every now and again on twitter a post appears where someone (who has a timeline full of gender critical posts) writes a nice story about "chasing a man out of the ladies' shouting at him"

But this didn't happen to this woman nor has she claimed it did. It's a screenshot she's posted of someone else's account of events. We don't actually know who it happened to, could have been a masculine looking woman with alopecia, could have been a transwoman with male pattern baldness claiming alopecia. It could be completely fabricated. All we know is that this woman has posted it in support.

'I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women'

Of course, it is also important here to point out the significance of how extreme activists have detached ‘feminist’ and now wrongly use the term ‘gender critical’.

Through this deliberate detachment the ‘gender critical feminist’ movement is now the ‘gender critical movement’ and has not got the foundations of feminist principles.

Chris and others now lazily use the term to mean anyone who believes that sex is immutable. And they wrongly and deliberately include all those people who are not feminists and who don’t even reject gender stereotypes. It is a meaningless term. Just like ‘cis’ is meaningless for describing female people, yet chris still does this. Even after all the explanations.

But of course, women discussing their needs in excluding male people have to be blamed for causing the fear people have of those male people in single sex spaces. Because… of course the fear could never be correctly attributed to the male people themselves for causing the distress.

That the trope repeated by chris and others is very misogynistic doesn’t seem to get acknowledged by them even though they have been on threads arguing this over and over. And have seen that it is misogynistic being pointed out.

it is that magic thing misogyny, it allows people to amplify some things that are said by female people and frame them negatively while ignoring the rest or pretending to not hear the rest. I notice is it only ever the female people though who get this treatment.

TRA want us to believe that TW have always used womans spaces, either undetected or not, and its only recently GC woman have existed and complained about it. And because the majority of TW pass and there's a greater number of non feminine women, these women are more likely to be targets than TW.

Its a genderist perspective - they use indicators that are gender - clothes, make-up, haircuts. When GC and the vast majority of women wouldnt use these because lots of women dont wear lots of make up, wear trousers and have short hair.

Of course if women see a masculine looking person in a public toilet, they are going to double check, we always have. Its a natural safety reflex. And the reaction is going to be different for each woman and situation.

But TRA claim its only the recent phenomenon of GC women doing this and its wrong. They want women who have always reacted this way to stop.

But its not a recent thing to be wary of who is in womens spaces, its just something they experience because they are more likely to use womens spaces now.

Indeed. After all, those teenagers spotted Eddie Izzard was out of place in a women’s toilet decades ago. Yes, TW’s have been encroaching on female spaces for years, but until recently women knew they had the backing of society to push back and insist they leave.

@Christinapple 'I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women' Yes, you've popped up on these boards many times with your ill-informed opinions but this one is your worst. If this happened - and as others have said the accuser must have been mentally ill or very short sighted - then it shows the opposite of what you say. Transgenderism is harming women by making them fearful and suspicious in places that should be single sex. The Darlington nurses are fighting to be able to get changed in a single sex spaces and these battles are playing out across the world because idiots in power listen to men in dresses over women. We say no.

Can I just say I know of plenty of women, particularly in my local lesbian scene who could easily be considered to look male if they were bald, and in fact many have been frequently challenged in women's bathrooms over the years even with short mid and long hair. They are all gc lesbians and are very happy with their biological vaginas and breasts 🙄.

Those saying they call bs because 'bald women look a certain way' are just as bad as those who would call someone out who looks masculine 🫠 Christ, you'd have a field day in the rugby or rollerderby scenes.

No, that is linguistic sleight of hand again.
We aren't saying women "look a certain way", we're saying women are easily distinguishable from men the vast majority of the time.
There are physiological markers which we all instinctively and unconsciously observe.

Women can and do look any way they choose. They are still women.

Genderists' obsessive insistence that being a woman includes conforming to norms of attractiveness or femininity makes it difficult for them to understand:
Anyone can be feminine.
Only female people are women.

It isn't the fault of 'gender critical' women. It is the fault of all the men who have entered women's spaces and corroded their confidence that those spaces will be genuinely single sex.

Also, I am GC and have alopecia too. Because it often involves hat wearing, short hair styles, or just general lack of confidence in presenting a 'curated appearance', it has from time to time led to me being mistaken for a man. I've also been mistaken for a man once in a toilet - decades ago, unrelated to alopecia or to the current gender politics

It is awful and humiliating but it is just a feature of the condition (or of having a rather ungendered appearance). I don't think it is very credible to hammer it into another opportunity to have a go at women who don't believe you can change sex.

Good answer. Mind, I don't believe you can't change sex, I damn well know you can't!

I'm not sure if you concluded that after looking at her photo that was posted upthread; apparently she often posts about her alopecia and can seem rather androgynous, or even masculine to some, due to her baldness and athletic body shape. Others have also said she is gender-critical.

I'm not saying this should be attributed to natal women concerned about people who are not natal female using female-only spaces and female objection to male intrusion should not be dismissed, but I don't know if I would confidently claim she made it up.

You dont need to use the word ‘natal’ before ‘woman’ or ‘female’.

If any movement has led to this (single reported incident), it is the gender self-ID movement. If you have a movement that says that private sex-segregated places are no longer split by sex, but by internal self-identification (on the basis of sexist stereotypes, since they're not on biology), you're saying to women: there will be men in your spaces. This puts women on guard for... men in their spaces.

Exactly this.

Grammarnut · 13/10/2024 22:41

Trans ideology means that gender non-conforming women are made uncomfortable. If men stopped pretending to be women this would not happen.

Because Flirts, you are expecting coherence and logic where all there is appeals to emotion.

You have to stay focused on the male people and be convinced that they should be allowed to enter female single sex spaces.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 13/10/2024 22:14

I fear you may be expecting a consistent and thought through approach Rhinos.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 13/10/2024 22:02

Hang on a minute...

TRAs and their allies believe trans women are women, right? That ones body sex is no more significant to ones womanhood than a variation in skin colour or nationality or age or height or fertility? That there is no "right way to be a woman", no "what a woman should look like", no gatekeeping, no expectation that woman are female?

In other words, TRAs, if we take them at their word, believe there's nothing wrong or lower-status about being a trans woman.

So why are TRAs suddenly acting like being "wrongly accused of being trans" is a terrible terrible thing for a woman to endure? Surely if, as they say, everyone other than some weird angry TERFs accepts trans women unreservedly as woman, why is being wrongly assumed to be trans any worse than being wrongly assumed to be a a little older, or that you dye your hair when its your natural colour? Why the pearl-clutching all of a sudden?

Helleofabore · 13/10/2024 21:36

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/10/2024 18:14

Not challenging anyone is case we get it wrong and upset a woman? And just get used to the fact that people we are 99% sure are men are using women only facilities?

That's exactly why TRAs and their allies are so fond of posting this type of account.

yes. The intention is to shame any remaining woman or girl to never ask the question, ‘are you in the wrong toilet / changing room’ or get security or call the police again.

That is the aim.

The polarised, catastrophising, absolutist thinking that shapes the argument that concerned and worried female people reacting to that concern when the person being questioned is a female are somehow an indication that most female people cannot correctly sex a male person is absurd to see.

But it is weaponised nicely here and cheered on too I see.

It is fuckwittery and misogyny to point to the reason for this happening being because of women raising awareness of male people accessing female single sex spaces. How bereft of logic is that argument? Well, if women had not raised the public awareness, we are supposed to think that no woman would be challenged. And that no male person would be detected.

And yet, some women have always been challenged, rightly or wrongly. So that would never change.

And male people would still be challenged, even if other women had not raised awareness about this. Because it is a fact and will always be a fact that female people will be highly likely to correctly identify the sex of male people. This is not impacted in the slightest by feminists raising public awareness.

It was always a logic free, highly emotionally manipulative argument. And it is gaslighting to deny that even with the occasional error, in general female people will be highly likely to correctly sex a male person.

These occasional errors do not change the issue. No male person above the age of about 8 years old should be in female single sex spaces.

It really is funny how Chris fully embraces the upside down and inside out world of T. Let me fix that:

I've said it several times, the gender identity ideology movement harms all women. Women are now worried about the possibility of seeing men in their spaces, and so very occasionally a woman in a women's space is mistaken for a man who claims to be a woman. And no wonder in the current climate.

Also makes me concerned about women athletes being mistaken for men barging into women's sport, what with the noticeable increase in men claiming womanhood to play on women's teams.

This is like DARVO. All of the bad outcomes from men (and some women) pushing GII are women's fault? Somehow?

It literally is DARVO.

As always. The DARVO of the so-called "trans" movement is constant. And has been a notable feature throughout. They are debunked CONSTANTLY. Always the projection with the accusations being admissions, just like other narcissistic abusers.

Now imagine being such a stupid/easily led/disingenuous person that you'd actually support a movement that has so little evidence that it uses well-known DARVO and abuse tactics and has to lie ALL the time to get any traction, and then imagine actually congratulating yourself on being some kind of a progressive!

This is what TRAs, especially their "allies" do constantly. It's so sad, desperate and pathetic. Their entire movement is a lie.

hihelenhi · 13/10/2024 20:22

Josette77 · 13/10/2024 19:17

That's awful that happened to her. 😢

I'm always surprised people can always tell if someone's a man or woman. Trans women in my experience don't often pass, but I absolutely see very manly looking women who could be mistaken for trans. Not because they are bald, they present feminine but have masculine features.

I thought Rain was a man for ages. I had the biggest crush!

"Mistaken for trans" isn't the same as being "mistaken for a man" though, is it?

As I said, all the scientific evidence is that the vast majority of people (including children) can tell pretty accurately what sex people are. Especially which ones are the males.
