I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

What I hate about this sort of extremely rare (if it's true at all) event being used to criticise GC women, is that it will make some women more scared of questioning men. It's already frightening to stand up to a man who is likely to be bigger, stronger and more aggressive. Add to that the concern that you could be wrong and upset someone, and the number of women who will stay silent rises even more. This is the typical 'women must be kind at all costs' playbook.

"it will make some women more scared of questioning men."

And that, right there, is the motive of men like the OP.

TofuTart · 13/10/2024 16:00

Yeah, hilarious. Being mistaken for a man can be upsetting.
Glad you find it so funny
Collateral damage, are they? Or just making it up, that seems to be the theme on this thread.

And women and our reactions are collateral damage for men in our spaces? Which is what you want?

TiredEyesSoreHeart · 14/10/2024 21:30

wrongthinker · 13/10/2024 15:52

Okay well that's shitty of people. But presumably if they're calling her a man to hurt her feelings they can tell she's a woman?

Either way, I can't get worked up about this. What's the alternative? That men don't get challenged, because we might make a mistake? I think I'd just say, oh I'm a woman, if it happened to me. If nothing else, the voice will give it away.

Yep, it would be like a bullying mean girl mocking a girl who is bald with cancer. Saying 'you look like a male', doesn't mean they mean girl actually thinks they're male.

Dendee · 13/10/2024 15:47

The woman who tweeted it is GC

Yeah, nah. GC women know and understand when someone suspects they're male. They don't go on twitter and attack fellow women for rightfully checking and safeguard.

Serencwtch · 14/10/2024 21:28

It's always the women's fault 🙄 Definitely not the fault of the men who can't keep out of women's safe spaces.

When women's & men's loos were separate women didn't feel anxious about men concealing themselves as women. Now there could be men with penises in any women's safe place & no wonder women are on edge & wary of anyone that could me a man. Men/'transwomen' are the problem not women.

In fact, sorry to triple post but @Christinapple as someone with alopecia I find it really offensive that you rope in this medical condition in order to have a go at women who oppose the transactivist agenda. I guess it is a much milder version of the fury that people with DSDs have when their conditions are exploited in this way

👏👏👏It is a cynical, spiteful and nasty attempt to gaslight women and set us up and attack us for reactions from a threat, a threat that they push in the first place. This tactic is the lowest of the low. But as we're seeing with trans/mens activism, there is not lowest of low they will not stoop to. They will use medical conditions, anything to push their hateful and toxic anti-feminist agenda. It's no surprise they will stoop to using medical conditions. They have no humanity or decency.

It's akin to blaming a rape victim flinching from a male and saying her reaction is causing harm to males and all rape victims too.

It's from the gutter and the lowest cruelty towards women possible.

JeremiahBullfrog · 14/10/2024 21:14

Even if the OP's bizarre claim that GC views "harm all women" was somehow correct (and not merely an extreme overextrapolation from a single event), that wouldn't change the fact that we should reject trans ideology because it rests entirely on insane incoherent delusion.

Dendee · 13/10/2024 15:14

The woman who tweeted this is GC

Nope, don't buy they're GC. I'm active on GC twitter with following/followers around 2500 and have never come across them. (I've come across several trans activists passing themselves off as GC though to 'troll' GCers) I've heard two stories where women had side-eyes and one a question from another women in the ladies, and both of the women said they understood and appreciated other women checking. That's the reaction of GC women. To appreciate that other women do a safety to check make sure they're not male. They understand, they appreciate it and they are grateful for it.

TiredEyesSoreHeart · 14/10/2024 21:05

TofuTart · 13/10/2024 15:09

Jeez, did you mean to come across so "look at what you made us do?!" 🙄

You think it's surprising that women are on naturally high alert to the presence of males? Did you really not think that through?

Do you blame rape victims for their reactions to male strangers, too?

TiredEyesSoreHeart · 14/10/2024 21:02

I don't buy this at all. It was clearly made up by a trans activist to cause trouble. You must think we all came down in the last shower.

Even if it were true, the fact that women are on such high alert due to males in our spaces is the fault of the trans activists that promote males in our spaces, causing women to be on high alert. This is more gaslighting for something that is the fault and complete doing of the trans activist movement.

This is classic gaslighting.
Insert males in female spaces;
females understandably get paranoid and are on high alert.
Now, blame women for their very understandable reactions to the influx of males.

CLASSIC GASLIGHTING. And shows how toxic the Mens Rights movement/trans movement is.

Makes sense @WhosPink. So the woman it actually happened to seemingly wants to raise awareness about her medical condition, but some people who don’t know her have decided to use her experience to further their own campaigns 🙄

Not quite. It didn't happen to the woman who has reposted the story. She has however posted it to raise awareness yes.

WhosPink · 14/10/2024 13:19

@Waitingfordoggo Lindsay didn't make any reference to GC views or otherwise - she just posted it as an example of the abuse that women with alopecia who dare to go out without a wig have to put up with. It was the OP who decided to re-purpose her post to push their own TRA views.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/10/2024 13:10

So a woman who appears to have some gender critical views has been accused of being male in a women’s toilet by someone who sounds completely unhinged.

My local town centre is often full of nutters (alcoholics, crackheads, people with very broken MH) who shout all sort of things at passers-by. I tend to blame the Tories for that sort of thing, thanks to the huge cuts to services over the past decade or so.

I don’t know whether this woman was at an airport in the UK or elsewhere, but you can find nutters almost everywhere. You can also find people like religious fundamentalists who think that women ‘should’ be feminine and wear their hair long, wear skirts etc.

None of this has anything to do with the feminists of MN who have GC views. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It would be interesting to see whether the woman in question still has GC views herself or whether this incident has made her suddenly believe that males with trans identities can take part in women’s sports. Seems doubtful.

WhosPink · 14/10/2024 13:01

This was a post by Lindsay Hannah. She's a female athlete who has total alopecia. She is gender critical and has posted on the matter of men in women's sports in the past. I don't understand why PPs are being so quick to dismiss her as a liar. I believe her.

Namechangeforadhd · 14/10/2024 13:00

It is absolutely factual that human beings can, in the vast majority of cases, easily differentiate between male and female.
There is a small minority of people who have brain conditions that makes it hard or impossible for them to recognise people, even those they know well, but that is as irrelevant to this issue as DSDs are to human sexual dimorphism.
At species level, individuals recognise the sex class of another individual the vast majority of the time.
And well done on the bravery of any woman who risks injury and social exclusion to stand up for female spaces. I don't think I'd be courageous enough to chase a male out of a toilet.

quantumbutterfly · 14/10/2024 12:50

Hunnymonster1 · 13/10/2024 15:42

Right just looked at her twitter account she’s full on bald unfortunately and I hazard a guesss that someone may have said something. Not sure if in the uk or not but there are some bigoted women who may have been mad to say something. Like I say in marks and Spencer’s I read an article of a lady been stopped because she’s lesbian and butch so you know this stuff does happen

I didn't know you could see if someone was a lesbian. TBF some of the hetero school mums are quite butch looking to me but unmistakably women.

They say that abused people become hyper vigilant (even by the usual standards of womens' survival instinct). I'm less relaxed in single sex spaces than I used to be.

Autumnchilltime · 14/10/2024 12:47

TofuTart · 13/10/2024 15:08

I agree.

Out of interest, what's the alternative? Allowing obvious men into women's safe spaces? Erosion of female dignity and opportunities? Even having their own language to describe themselves and experience? If the op story happened, that's sad: but does seem unlikely unless the shouter was just a nutter.

illinivich · 14/10/2024 12:45

Why have the spaces in the first place if few people can distinguish between the sexes?

We say with confidence the sex of people we don't know when discribing them. Parents tell their children to ask a lady for help if they get lost.

We know the difference, why pretend that we don't.

illinivich · 14/10/2024 12:40

You're saying that under the impression everyone has the same degree of facial and feature recognition. They absolutely do not.

It must be the norm to be able to distinguish between men and woman, otherwise how would single sex spaces exist in the first place?

Edited

Because those who walk in to the designated spaces generally know what sex they are 🫠 they're not policed at the door

Snowypeaks · 14/10/2024 03:46

No, that is linguistic sleight of hand again.
We aren't saying women "look a certain way", we're saying women are easily distinguishable from men the vast majority of the time.
There are physiological markers which we all instinctively and unconsciously observe.

Women can and do look any way they choose. They are still women.

Genderists' obsessive insistence that being a woman includes conforming to norms of attractiveness or femininity makes it difficult for them to understand:
Anyone can be feminine.
Only female people are women.

You're saying that under the impression everyone has the same degree of facial and feature recognition. They absolutely do not.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/10/2024 12:26

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 14/10/2024 09:32

But this didn't happen to this woman nor has she claimed it did. It's a screenshot she's posted of someone else's account of events. We don't actually know who it happened to, could have been a masculine looking woman with alopecia, could have been a transwoman with male pattern baldness claiming alopecia. It could be completely fabricated. All we know is that this woman has posted it in support.

Oh yes. This was (unsurprisingly) not clear from the OP.

The tweet linked to in the opening post is just a screen shot. The woman posting the screen shot does not say this happened to her. I think she is just passing on the story.

Leaves me wondering even more what the point of this thread is, but I don't expect clarification will be forthcoming, unless you'd like to prove me wrong OP ?
