Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Let's see what proportion of the UK females are dick pandering patient Griseldas in need of boundaries, ability to think of others beyond themselves, and a book on codependence.

There will sadly be many more than I would hope for, but they aren't the majority.

Sorry, I understood you to mean reality based.

How about every biological adult human female in the UK?

Nicola Sturgeon, Sandy Brindley, Nadia Whittome.....

Who get their say and so should every other real actual woman.

Call me a wishy-washy fence-sitting liberal-with-a-small-L, but I think this is just a job he and colleagues have been tasked with - to get a legal definition that will stand in all cases.
Otherwise, it'll be open to definition/challenge/appeal at every turn.
We can only hope that biology and common sense prevail😕

Lord Reed presents himself as a no-nonsense, modern kinda legal eagle, but part of the 'modern' bit is saying that the law needs to keep up with changes in society, and that's worrying.

On the other hand, he may want to make the law more straightforward, and he may not want to build in new legal fictions, e.g. a man with a special piece of paper is a woman. Sticking to XX-XY would take a lot of the hassle out of your decision-making process, m'luds and ladies!

He's at least talked about the importance of clarity.

‘He is most proud of a case in 2015, which established that patients should be informed of all the facts before a medical procedure, so they can give proper consent.’

So at the moment, a man or woman should be informed that medical procedures to make their body look less like their actual sex and instead try and mimic the opposite sex, will not actually make them the opposite sex. That there is a % chance of numbness/ no sensation, etc etc and that chromosomes will not change. That illnesses such as cancer may be increased and that certain conditions that only men and women get will still need to be looked out for. Medical staff will need to know your sex for the best treatment in the future.

It’s bloody scary when doctors tell you the risks before an operation but I am glad they do. It also means that outcome statistics are followed up.

Yeah, I don't think I need five people in a room, majority men, to tell me what a woman is after my gynae fun'n'games last spring.

Fuck sake.
Just when I thought that I couldn't possibly be MORE done with this shit.

Edited to correct rage-fuelled typo.

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 04/10/2024 18:50

Is this wise man going to bestow his wisdom imminently? Because I've got a smear test coming up, and if would be great if it turns out I'm not actually a woman after all, and I don't need to go.

Runskiyoga · 04/10/2024 18:44

Anastomosisrex · 04/10/2024 17:25

Behold. A bloke has arrived to define and name us with his manly wisdom. With an eye to the convenience of other men.

Ah, please post this on The Times comments

Velvian · 04/10/2024 18:39

Not only a man, but a man that sits in the house of Lords thinks he gets to decide how we 'define' a woman. It is farcical.

Anastomosisrex · 04/10/2024 18:33

As for the extreme end misogyny and arrogance of a man and a few others sitting in a chamber patting themselves on the back for their intellect and lack of emotion as they define the female half of the human race.....

defies words. It really does. The lack of self awareness is mind blowing.

Anastomosisrex · 04/10/2024 18:31

No, the only thing that's changed is that reality and biology makes men sad.

It's obvious where it will go: 'woman' will be a possessor of magical womanly essence primarily possessed by people with penises.

Fuck this. Women need a new word.

ScarlettSunset · 04/10/2024 18:28

How did they decide in the past? Like when women were denied the vote?
Women haven't actually changed biologically since then have they?

SerendipityJane · 04/10/2024 17:31

Igneococcus · 04/10/2024 17:23

Funny how that is never asked, isn't it @SerendipityJane

Well I just asked.

Woman = XX chromosomes
Man = XY.

Where's my fucking Nobel prize then ?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2024 17:26

What happened with interventions, have any been allowed?

How about every biological adult human female in the UK?

Can we have a bloody referendum on this?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2024 17:27
