16-year-old boy shares his story about being forced to be trans by mother

What have I just read?

"His crush would bring some spare clothes to school so he wouldn’t have to wear a dress. His teachers would pull him aside and lecture him on conforming to gender norms and say that what he was doing was ‘toxic’. “I was shamed by my English teacher. She said I was setting a bad example for other LGBTQ kids,” he explained."

You know when you read something an think "how can this be real" and then you think about Susie Green and Jazz's parents and David Tennant and think, of course this is happening to some of these kids.

Again, this piece of writing comes across as transparently fake. Does nobody any favours.

I agree. But then I think about pageant moms. Or the Jazz situation. Extreme entertainment creates extreme stories. The writer is a reality tv writer. Would be interesting to ask her where the story came from.

The more I read it, the more the original link sounds like something that would be the plot of a trashy but weirdly entertaining film depending on the costumes.

Oh thank you so much for pointing out that it's fantasy. Nobody else in the entire thread had noticed until you kindly explained it to us. Must be our titchy lady brains playing up again!

It's not a GC fantasy, it's an MRA one. People who are critical of gender stereotypes would not write a story in which the villains are a crazy ex-wife who lies about domestic abuse and a female teacher who dislikes boys.

DadJoke · 23/09/2024 12:08

You have got to be the most gullible person on God's green earth to believe this transparent gender critical fantasy.

It does. It did strike me about the Texan case @theilltemperedclavecinist linked to, just how hopelessly intertwined with politics the issue is in the US. It seems impossible to hold a gender-critical position there without being branded 'extreme right-wing' or some such. Emotive phrases like 'targeting the transgender community' are pretty clear in their implication.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/09/2024 11:35

Some of these parents make it their whole identity, even more than their child.

Bickybics · 23/09/2024 11:33

I know someone whose teenage daughter is trans. Everything the mum posts on social media is about Trans rights, she’s become an LBGTQ champion at work etc.
The thing is, her daughter actually doesn’t look that much like a boy, just non gender conforming. Short hair (I suspect a binder) but her clothes and hair are actually still very feminine.
i wonder if she pulls away from it, it’s actually harder to do as your parent has invested so much in it.

Shouldn't let Green's husband off the hook, though. His homophobia. No opposition at all (that I know of) to Susie Green's actions in relation to their child.

WandsOut · 23/09/2024 11:12

I'd argue that Susie Green weaponising compassion is one of the reasons we are suddenly here not knowing wtf we've ended up reading!

Compassion for her as a parent, yes. I agree as a campaigner she is frightening.

Compassion for Susie Green who pushed the dead trans child narrative as a club to bully parents with?

I can't see Susie Green's name without thinking of that scene where she was chuckling with her mother about the size of her son's penis and saying the surgeon 'didn't have much to work with'. Vile woman.

There are extreme cases everywhere. Picking the most extreme bits of each case and sticking them all together is lying.

As for Susie Green - have some compassion. She not surprisingly chooses to tell a positive story about her child, or one where any questionable action is done by her. She takes that on. You can read between the lines that her child really was suicidal and there were probably years of desperate difficulty. Do I think that transition was the only possible outcome - well no; and i wish she didnt 'sell' transition as likely positive for a big number; but is it possible that transition was a positive outcome for her child as an individual? Yes, absolutely, and that is one of the clear messages of the Cass report too.

This story may or may not be true, but there have been several similar cases which have gone to court.

Here's one from the UK.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/oct/21/boy-living-life-as-girl-removed-from-mothers-care-high-court-judge

and one from the US.
https://www.texastribune.org/2022/03/14/jeff-younger-transgender-care-house/

There have always been people who do strange things: the variable factor is institutional /societal response. In the case reported by the Guardian, Social Services accepted the mother's narrative that her son was a girl.

About forty years ago, I read an autobiographical account by a mother who, abandoned by her husband, had some sort of breakdown and started pretending her two small sons were girls. Being isolated, she got away with it for a while, but eventually it came out and she got the help she needed. I can't imagine that anyone entertained for a moment the possibility that they were 'really' girls. O tempora o mores.

What, they're saying that the mother's sex life is the main problem for teenagers and saying how oppressed the poor dad is for working long hours?? That's textbook MRA stuff.

Could even be that even if remotely real, the kid is being played off between the parents. The problem with these stories, that real or unreal, we live in a world that so fucked up now, that the seeds are happening in real situations.

In the real world..
There are cases where ex husband s have become estranged from kids where the kid is saying they are trans and the mother is supporting the kid - can easily turn into a "you are transphobic" as a way to maintain boundaries and a sense of control.

I don't think the mother would be sending her kid to school in a shirt dress and suspenders but when I see the maid inspired outfits some of these young males who identify as girls are wearing, the thigh high socks and tiny skirts...

But this is more of a child led movement - very likely in some of these cases that the kid is one insisting at the start due to learning stereotypes from school and parents.

Didn't Susie Green say in her Ted talk that her child played with dolls and the father hated this?

KIDS ARENT TRANS!!

Of course they aren’t. No person has ever changed their sex.

Finished reading it and that poor boy. He was abused by his mother, and then the teachers who are supposed to be on the kids side, said he was a disappointment to other trans kids. KIDS ARENT TRANS!!

I think you read an email written by a men's rights activist that has been written up as a 'story'. That's not journalism.

I feel like this when I read Stonewall and Mermaids guidance tbf!

According to his parents, he’s been into drags since he was only 2-years-old.

I haven’t read the entire thing yet but this shouted out to me. When my ds was a little boy, he liked playing with his sisters toys. He likes to push dollies in prams. He liked to wear girly clothing and stuff like that. Did I think “oh no. He must have been born in the wrong body?!” Of course I didn’t. I just let him enjoy his playing. He’s 9 now and hates pink and all that stuff. Here he is

Let's hope it's fake. Although Jazz and Desmond in plain sight are bad enough that we don't need fake stories.

Also wolves. Wtf is happening with the wolves?

I've already said I'm unsure that it's real, but that it opens up other questions about Jazz Jennings parents for example.

So much around this stuff feels unreal, and that article is from 2020 - like the kids being affirmed as animals, you go wtf, what have I just read?

And then you think about Susie Green and the parents so far gone in this ideology that things that seemed mad five years ago have suddenly come to pass.
