What have I just read?

"His crush would bring some spare clothes to school so he wouldn’t have to wear a dress. His teachers would pull him aside and lecture him on conforming to gender norms and say that what he was doing was ‘toxic’. “I was shamed by my English teacher. She said I was setting a bad example for other LGBTQ kids,” he explained."

You know when you read something an think "how can this be real" and then you think about Susie Green and Jazz's parents and David Tennant and think, of course this is happening to some of these kids.

@OldCrone because it's a load of old nonsense! I thought it was ridiculous when a load of numpties on twitter made a thing about JKR having black mould in her house, and when they insist we're all evangelical Republicans, and I think it's ridiculous when we are supposed to believe that some kind of journalist on an Australian showbiz gossip website published a random unverified email purporting to be from a 16 year old living in America about being sent to school, in California obvs, in fishnet tights because of his evil mother who somehow spirited him out of Australia against his poor old hardworking dad's wishes, because the horrible oppressive bitch hates all men, even her poor son, and forces him to wear a pink hair bow and laugh at him... it's great big hairy pornsoaked bollocks.

Just because it is still so incredible, so extraordinary that people genuinely expect us to believe that male people can be women and vice versa, and that children should have their essential physical development halted for psychological reasons; and just because there really are some women who are major players in this cultural phenomenon in ways we haven't really reckoned with; none of that means we have to swallow any old shite, do we?

annejumps · 23/09/2024 22:27

It's not that no one pressures their kids into claiming to be trans, it's that this particular article doesn't pass the smell test.

Only for those with the intellectual might of a packet of pork pies.

That’s pretty insulting to OP, but you do you.

Interesting how all the usual MRAs/TAs have come out in force to post on this. The thread next to this has details of the tragic death of a trans man following phalloplasty.

Just down the list there are several threads on Mridul W who used rape victims to satisfy his own narcissistic needs and who has badly damaged a much needed rape centre.

Two threads away we have the news that the Scouts will have mixed sex tents, because everyone knows what a good idea it is to encourage teenagers to sleep together.

Strangely enough none of these include mocking posts from our usual suspects. Crickets. Tumbleweed. Nada.

Baffling isn't it?

I hope for that child's sake it's fake but yes, it really does happen. Parents who can be sane in other areas of their life go batshit when it's anything to do with trans. I know a fervent trans activist dad who pushes his daughter in all areas of her transition. When his son, on a trip to the zoo, announced that he wanted to be an elephant the dad pointed out that he was a boy and so couldn't be an elephant. Does this idiot not see what he is saying? Gah!

I don't know why people are saying it's obviously fake. I posted a couple of links earlier in the thread about court cases in which a parent had transed their child. It most certainly does happen.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 23/09/2024 21:18

That article is hilariously badly written. You've been had, @WandsOut.

Yeah this is crap. Is this some sort of right-wing tabloid?

MelodyMalone · 23/09/2024 18:27

Not buying Lucas's story at all ("the teacher accused me of something called mansplaining" - said no teenager ever) - however, I think there's ample evidence of some parents taking an idea and running with it, especially these days when "trans" is everywhere. And of course there will be others who are the exact opposite, react with horror and refuse to listen to a word of it, which can also be very damaging.

MonsteraMama · 23/09/2024 17:34

Yeah no. Didn't so much jump the shark as take a 100m run up, backflip over it then piss in it's eyes.

Giving credence to nonsense like this helps no one.

biscuitandcake · 23/09/2024 17:09

DadJoke · 23/09/2024 16:14

Oh, I agree it’s pretty hard to tell the difference.

Oh, the idea that autistic and gay children are being sterilised and left with 0 sexual function through the use of puberty blockers sounds like a crazy conspiracy. So does the idea that a convicted male rapist was put on a prison with women. There are so many things that you think "that can't be true" and then it is.
That's why it's so important to keep a really firm hold on facts and what's true though. Otherwise it's easy to spin out into crazy conspiracy theories. See also the people who responded to Trumps (mad) first term by deciding anything the republicans are against must be good and therefore JKRowling, lesbian rad gems etc must be in the pay of the Christian far right.
This article is hogwash (probably).

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 23/09/2024 16:25

It's such damaging language as well. Forcing a child to be trans sounds bad, and pushy, but that's all. This isn't what that is. It's serious sexual abuse of a child through humiliation. The language used minimises this so much.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/09/2024 16:15

Another one not convinced by this particular story. But if you want real life, here's a judgement about a mother who did precisely this and abused her son by insisting that he was a girl.
She eventually lost custody of him but what the judgement highlights is how so many professionals with a duty to safeguard this child in the face of a mentally unwell mother failed completely - because they prioritised trans ideology instead of safeguarding a child. And that's happening everywhere:

www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Fam/2016/2430.html.

Quite.

The way it's written sounds fake. The concept is only too plausible.

Oh thank you so much for pointing out that it's fantasy. Nobody else in the entire thread had noticed until you kindly explained it to us. Must be our titchy lady brains playing up again!

It's not a GC fantasy, it's an MRA one. People who are critical of gender stereotypes would not write a story in which the villains are a crazy ex-wife who lies about domestic abuse and a female teacher who dislikes boys.

Oh, I agree it’s pretty hard to tell the difference.

RaspberryParade · 23/09/2024 15:49

My instinct is this is highly dodgy.

Echobelly · 23/09/2024 15:46

Sounds like total bollocks to me. It's every cliche of what some people extreme people assume the parent of a trans kid is like - oh, they must be a woke snowflake attention seeking pervert who wants to sexually exploit their child because being trans is all about sex. I agree there's a hint here of someone's forced feminisation fetish there.

Datun · 23/09/2024 15:42

DadJoke · 23/09/2024 12:08

You have got to be the most gullible person on God's green earth to believe this transparent gender critical fantasy.

Yeah blaming all the women who make up abusive ex husbands and scream at boy pupils.

Really sounds very gender critical.

Much more likely to be based on some nasty 'forced feminisation' story.

RedToothBrush · 23/09/2024 15:35

It reads as fake BUT

We know one of the things that makes it difficult for children and young adults to detransition is effectively the sunk costs issue regarding identity and how your social network is built around the issue. Because it's cult like detransition is regarded as almost a betrayal and it brings pariah status.

But I think we have only really explored this from the perspective of the child.

It's not that hard to imagine parents who are particularly vulnerable in their own right, suddenly finding their own place in a community, but in order to continue to be part of that community their child has to be trans.

As I say, the cult like behaviour of some of these groups wouldn't make it beyond the realms of possibility by any stretch.

I think this particular article smells off, but I think there are parents who create their own identities from their child being trans and we should be mindful of it.

Parents who then spend their lives going around forums berating women for their 'unacceptable' behaviour which gives them a buzz and a shiny halo for being such a good ally.
