What have I just read?

"His crush would bring some spare clothes to school so he wouldn’t have to wear a dress. His teachers would pull him aside and lecture him on conforming to gender norms and say that what he was doing was ‘toxic’. “I was shamed by my English teacher. She said I was setting a bad example for other LGBTQ kids,” he explained."

You know when you read something an think "how can this be real" and then you think about Susie Green and Jazz's parents and David Tennant and think, of course this is happening to some of these kids.

MRAs also hate transgender people. You have that in common, at least.

Lol transgenderism IS men's rights activism.

eatfigs · 25/09/2024 01:30

Disagreement with ideological beliefs is "hate" is it? Lay off the hyperbole please.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/09/2024 00:59

Not as many things as you have in common with MRAs, dear.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/09/2024 18:52

I'm very skeptical about this being true. But if it is, it's shocking.

DadJoke · 24/09/2024 13:18

@datun you've confused "this didn't happen" with "this doesn't happen." And yes, stick to real, verifiable sources, not gender critical fantasy pieces, or the politicisation of their kids by GOP bigots.

Good. So at least you admit that there are parents out there who are coercing their children to identify as transsexual. Although it would be hard to argue otherwise: I posted articles about two court cases in which this has happened, and I have heard of others.

Why do you call this article a 'gender critical fantasy piece'? What makes you think that anyone who is in the least bit critical of genderism would make up a story like this?

MelodyMalone · 24/09/2024 18:35

I don't hate transgender people. I just have some concerns about biological men being accepted as women in sport, single-sex spaces, etc, and the impacts of that. I think there needs to be careful consideration of these issues and how they can be addressed, without people who raise concerns being accused of bigotry.

In no way is that hate. I don't hate anyone. Except Donald Trump.

DadJoke · 24/09/2024 18:29

Datun · 24/09/2024 13:43

Yeah, thinly veiled forced feminisation and slagging off women from start to finish sounds very 'gender critical fantasy'.

HarrytheHobbit · 24/09/2024 15:37

This story is undoubtably a load of bollocks but there is no denying the fact that parents have transed their children IRL.

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2024 15:29

Datun what's a men's right fantasy look like?

Quite. Even when they're trying to frame women, it leaches out.

I see it more as highlighting the insanity, but I can see your point about how it could be used to obscure the truth. It makes me wonder who is actually circulating these particular fictions. Perhaps they're written by extreme transactivists, to support their view that anyone who objects to the transing of children is a pearl clutching prude caught up in a moral panic about things which aren't happening anyway.

But although this particular article may be fiction, it's all too similar to actual documented cases.

There are actual documented cases of parents transing their children against the wishes of the other parent and even the children themselves.

There are actually parents who are exploiting their children's supposed trans identity for financial gain (Jazz Jennings, Kai Shappley, Desmond Napoles and others). We have no idea how much the parents in these and other cases have coerced and encouraged their child to identify as trans.

We should ignore the cries of "this doesn't happen" from the TRAs and discuss the parts of this story which are happening to children.

I can't remember where I read it, but a teenage boy was saying he wanted to stop taking female hormones because they were interfering with his sex drive, but he didn't know how to do it, because his mum wouldn't let him stop. He was asking for advice on how to override her

absolutely. See dad joke on this very thread.

Interesting examples there. Agree article is probably not true.

However on your slippery slope another example would be it's a slippery slope to 'sex isn't real' and 'sterilising children is 'gender affirming' care' and 'rape victims don't have the right to single sex care as this is bigoted'.

Whilst one set of patently ridiculous fake ideas (like people eating pets) rightly get derision, another set have been normalised and embedded in institutions. The latter are more dangerous.

Exactly, but sex is real. There is obviously a lot of nuance in the world, and people can completely legitimately disagree on quite fundamental stuff. There's lots of stuff we just don't know for certain. But you can start saying "trans women are women" because even though it isn't true, it feels kind and harmless (and because it's the opposite to what the religious right think) And that then logically leads to the harmful examples you outlined. "Is it true" is a much better question than "does this fit with what my team say".

Axelotylbottle · 24/09/2024 09:41

Frankly I don't know how anyone can watch more than about 10 minutes of the Jazz Jennings tv show without wanting to call social services. It's obviously abusive. Jazz has multiple health problems and one bit i watched (I can never watch that much at a time) has Jazz's mother saying 'a 20 year old shouldn't have all these health problems'. Um, join the dots FFS.

The parents are in obvious shock at the experimental nature of Jazz's surgeries at times.

Yet all these adults watching this, recording this, do nothing.

It's easy to think things are true because they fit the opinions we already have. Or to think "even if this isn't true stuff like this happens so it might as well be true". But then it's a slippery slope to "they are eating cats" or "red states are locking trans people in concentration camps".

I don't think this article is true.

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2024 09:23

I've come across a couple of parents who use their kids as an extension of their own identity.

It's awful. But that makes it worse when articles/stories that aren't true are circulated because it obscure what is going on
The same way the "litter boxes in schools" story got blown up in America even though it wasn't true, at the expense of genuinely dodgy things happening in some schools. And now you will notice that "Republican panics about litter boxes" gets referenced a lot as a short hand for debates about transitioning in school etc. It makes it harder to recognise the truth.

I don't know if that article is true, but I am aware in real life of a trans teen who 'came out' as a toddler to great fanfare from the mother. 'Fighting' for 'trans kids' has become the entire life and identity of both mother and child for years. I can't see that the child has had much of a choice. The mother has revolved their entire social lives around it, and there's a very strong 'people hate you for who you are' narrative.
There aren't other hobbies or anything. It reminds me of those fanatical pageant mothers except with extra medication.

@InvisibleBuffy that poor child. So many people tell these kids that disagreeing means the world hates them and that's such an evil thing to say. No hobbies, just focusing on trans? Again that's awful and happens to so many of these kids

  • If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself.
  • A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.

That Goebbels fella was on to something.

Absolutely - if you keep spreading implausible drivel such as this article, you’ll eventually find that there are enough numpties who want it to be true, and believe it.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/09/2024 23:29

I take your point OldCrone. It's enraging that women are held to such high standards while transactivists can wield so much power while uttering complete lies and dangerous nonsense, from TWAW, men can grow a cervix, sex isn't binary and that children can be born in the wrong body. And it's absolutely right to point out the similarity with so many real live cases of the damage being done to children.
I'd still prefer it that people didn't cite sources that are unlikely to be true. But agree that it does pale into insignificance when contrasted with the enormous lie that you can change sex.

OldCrone · 23/09/2024 23:06

@PermanentTemporary that's not really my point. The whole article does seem unlikely to be true, but there seem to be a few posters on this thread who are using that to suggest that there aren’t actually parents who are transing their children just to get attention.

It seems astonishing that Susie Green did what she did, and since then has made it her mission to recruit as many other children as possible to the same fate. But that happened.

It seems astonishing that any parents would make a reality show out of their child being given drugs and surgery to try to make them resemble the opposite sex, but Jazz Jennings exists.

Also Desmond is Amazing and Kai Shappley seem to be real people. And so many more victims of this c^1t.

There have been a number of court cases where one parent has transed their child and the other parent has fought this, because the child doesn't even want to be transed. This is really happening. I'm objecting to the posters on this thread who are suggesting that because this particular story is unlikely to be true, that something similar isn't happening to other children. It is.
