French village of Mazan torn apart by horror of mass rape trial - BBC News

I'm not really surprised but seriously, how on earth can anyone of any influence say something quite this stupid?

"“She’ll have trouble getting back on her feet again for sure,” he agreed, but suggested her rapes were less troubling than those of another victim in the nearby town of Carpentras who “was conscious when she was raped… and will carry the physical and mental trauma for a long time, which is even more serious”."

“People here say ‘no one was killed’. It would have been much worse if [Pelicot] had killed his wife. But that didn’t happen in this case,” Bonnet said"

It’s impossible to give a flying fuck about any of these men. But after Gisele and her daughter, the people I feel sorriest for are the rapists’ wives.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 29/09/2024 10:35

My heart bleeds.

Perhaps the Misogynist Mayor of Mazan would care to experience what Gisele Pelicot suffered before he opens his trap again, just to see if it changes his opinion.

From NitroNine’s article

” I’ve been threatened, I’ve been insulted…”

Surely you shouldn’t complain Louis, it could have been worse.

No insight. No understanding of how his words might land given his earlier comments.

Egocentricity and narcissism on this scale still have the capacity to surprise me.

No idea. Looks like it is 'old' (but not ancient and we don't know how old - and she must have been working on this case for a while though) but allegedly reposted by her very recently.

I used to feel sorry for lawyers who had to try to defend the lowest of the low but no, it's all just a joke to her. She has no scruples. No empathy. On psychological terms there's a word for that...

Worse is his (female) lawyer reposting an old video of her singing along to 'wake me up before you go go'. Ffs

And what was her point in doing that? As a woman does she think being raped whilst unconscious is OK?

There are absolutely no words for that, are there?

Well, maybe there are. Let's start with offensive, shocking, ignorant, stupid, tone-deaf. But these rather fall short of my reaction to it.

Cross post! Don’t mean to minimise what happened of course. This is the contact for Mazan: www.mazan.fr/nous-contacter.html

Recommend writing to the the Mayor Denis Le Ralle and explaining to him that millions are now aware of the horror in his town and his reaction to it.

There is also a phoneline if you speak French

This isn’t the right town, this Marzan is hundreds of miles away.

PsstPeanut · 22/09/2024 11:22

Bit late on this, but in response to RaspberryParade above, the village where this happened is Mazan, not Marzan. And the mayor whose words are quoted is Louis Bonnet, not Denis Le Ralle. Just in case anyone does want to express how they feel about what Louis Bonnet said - wouldn't want it going to the wrong man!
Good idea though ...

DisappearingGirl · 18/09/2024 22:58

Yes I heard the mayor on the news last night. Pretty much saying, well no-one was killed so it's not that bad! Couldn't believe it!

Gisèle is so brave, and her daughter. They are both beautiful and dignified as well.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/09/2024 18:08

I'm sure I've read that some of the perpetrators are "too high profile to be prosecuted". I wonder...

Where did you read that?

I heard that on the news last night, and was horrified and gobsmacked. I really wish that the women of the world could have some quality time with the Mayor, to explain to him exactly how vile his attitude is. Hopefully he will get punished in the next mayoral election.

Just a google away is the means to express your views, it would be good if millions of women did.
If we stay silent or only complain here, then thats acceptance.

Hmmm. I'm now questioning why he keeps minimising it (apart from his obvious misogyny). Maybe the mayor was one of them eh? Seems such a large sample of rapists from a small area that took part in this crime. They've still not identified at least 30 of them. These men still walk free despite their crimes.

Yep, or he knows others who were involved

Grades of rape. Honestly, men!

Makes me feel physically sick.

Boiledbeetle · 18/09/2024 17:19

Wow! Lots of minimising and very little empathy by the male of the species in that article.

DuesToTheDirt · 18/09/2024 17:18

Alwaystired94 · 18/09/2024 17:12

Agreed. Living there, i wouldn't trust a single fucking man.

They weren't all locals I think? So basically, wherever you live, don't trust the men.

Yep, the worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad 🙄

Hey, thats true, it does make them look bad.

Oh hold on, could that be because they ARE bad?
