If SB barnacles on and holds her position after this, I don't know when RCS will recover from this reputational damage.

If she won't go voluntarily, it's time for the trustees and NEDs to oust her to restore confidence in the entire sector, never mind RCS.

Oh my god that poor woman. What a fucking mess.

INeedAPensieve · 24/09/2024 17:05

That's a hard letter to read. It's also on wings over Scotland's website too. What a shit show this whole thing has been.

Rape survivor's open letter to Brindley. Heartbreaking. I hope she is okay and has decent support around her.

That is a hard read. I hope that she gets that support that she needs.

They talk about AGP and Porn and how men need more and more in the film Trans Widows through the looking glass,

Looking at this film and seeing the rapists in France and how this was all linked and facilitated by social media along with the Incell, Andrew Tate, increasing mysogonistic and appalling reporting in main stream press, together Im glad I wont be on this earth in 30 years time, until then Ill be fighting back tooth and nail.

So the dilemma of "queer theory" is exactly the same dilemma as that of trans-identified males of the autogynephilic variety: The second you get what you want it becomes undesirable because it can no longer be experienced as trespass into a receding territory of "really" being a woman.

Yes, and that's what the bekinders don't yet understand. There will never be any concessions that satisfy these people. No amount of pandering will ever be enough. They're also in competition with each other to go further and be more shocking and outrageous and get more attention.

CocoapuffPuff · 24/09/2024 10:39

Basically they're getting a boner from being a cock in a henhouse.

...it's very difficult to remain radical and transgressive all the time because the system is continually adapting to accommodate you, so you have to continually step outside that moment of transgression to a further moment of transgression and keep pushing.

Incredibly revealing of how these people think.

So the dilemma of "queer theory" is exactly the same dilemma as that of trans-identified males of the autogynephilic variety: The second you get what you want it becomes undesirable because it can no longer be experienced as trespass into a receding territory of "really" being a woman.

Both groups have an unadmitted hunger for "the real", and for real boundaries that give flavour to their violation of socially constructed (and allegedly socially constructed) boundaries

I wanted to say this somewhere and I don't particularly want to start a new thread so this will do.

I'm away at a conference for work and last night I got talking to a colleague from a different office. She's a lesbian in her 40s. After a few drinks we were talking about politics and she told me she had "strong views about women's rights", which sounded like a bat signal to me. I asked her what those views were and she said, "Basically I think JK Rowling has got a point."

We then had a very interesting discussion. She hadn't heard of the LGB Alliance, she thought mermaids were just mythical creatures and she didn't know what peaking means.

I'm very hungover this morning but feeling reassured that the whole world hasn't gone completely insane.

MaidOfAle · 24/09/2024 00:23

This competitive edginess is about money and about trying to stay relevant to keep getting funding and about being the "coolest" kid in the room.

And the reason why certain disciplines in academia are full of this "queering" bollocks is because it results in grants for old rope, prestige amongst other academics in the discipline for "progressive" thinking, and relative freedom from being challenged because of the ability to brand as "bigots" anyone who objects and "not intelligent (or learned) enough" anyone who says that it doesn't make sense. There's a huge amount of "emperor's new clothes" gaslighting of dissenters going on.

The terrifying thing is that this has seeped into some pretty major scientific journals.

RCS and ERCC seemed confident they would win the ET from Roz.

They investigated MW's comments about firing those with GC beliefs and found nothing wrong. 🙈

Daniel Johnson MSP emerges well out of this correspondence - faithfully passing on his constituents' concerns in full, going back when he got a non-answer, and asking for funding to be stopped while an investigation took place. Good for him.

I wondered what Inspiring Scotland’s remit was in this. Seems they run the Delivering Equally Safe programme.

“We are a venture philanthropy organisation. This means we apply venture capital principles – such as long-term investment and tailored development support – to the voluntary sector. In doing this, we aim to build a Scotland where everyone has the same opportunities to reach their potential and lead happy and healthy lives.“

MW thought the ET had “roots in the hostile environment that is being created for charities that are openly trans inclusive”.

ERCC’s response to the tribunal findings continued their policy of gaslighting survivors.

”Our services are and have always been open to all survivors irrespective of their beliefs. We are transparent and honest about how our services are delivered and who delivers them. We acknowledge openly that we have women and non-binary staff members and clearly communicate that we offer women-only spaces and times in our centre.”

No mention or acknowledgment that they have a biologically and legally male staff member, though.

They say: "hostile environment that is being created for charities that are openly trans inclusive".

I say: "insistence by women's rights campaigners that we have female-only services".

Tom-AH-to, tom-AY-to.

Yes. Having successfully created and ruled a fiefdom, unopposed, in MW's contrived progressive world, why wouldn't MW continue to think that the ideology would survive contact with the real world? Especially with all the support MW had that verged on hagiography.

The post-rape counselling services and domestic abuse services set up by women for women have always been inherently political. Underpinning these services is the recognition that that women as a class are oppressed by men as a class and that is an inherently political stance to take. This political stance of recognising sex-based oppression has always been the motive for helping victim-survivors as well as informing our understanding of why men make up most sexual offenders and why they usually pick women as their victims.

Sandy has forgotten that the politics is supposed to serve the victim-survivors, not the other way around. It's not appropriate for a counselor to try to turn a victim-survivor into an activist, no matter how noble the cause.

And she has forgotten the politics itself: she has forgotten that women's oppression is sex-based.

FFS. Radical and regressive is the last thing a survivor would want from a rape crisis centre. Their boundaries have already been transgressed in the most horrible way.

Yes. How utterly revolting to use them further.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/09/2024 20:49

FFS. Radical and regressive is the last thing a survivor would want from a rape crisis centre. Their boundaries have already been transgressed in the most horrible way.

They need safety and comfort.

Yes, but these people don't see that as the most important consideration.

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2024 20:43

Why is "transgression" a worthy goal in and of itself? Pure queer theory.

Yes, it's all about breaking down boundaries, dismantling rules, upending societal codes and agreements, undermining norms. Entirely destructive.
