So this trend. I’m bridling at the ‘demure and mindful’ bullshit being promoted by someone who is performing femininity.

Demure and mindful women seldom make history. Here we go again, being sent back into our boxes by men.

A demure TikTok has gone viral, but is it an ironic joke or does it set unrealistic standards for women?

I have seen it. I find it annoying. The bit where the person says ‘get it together ladies’ is the bit that pisses me off.

Women are fully aware of how they dress, how their make up will be judged, if they wear make up, how their hair looks, the texture of their hair, the style etc will be judged at work.

The only joke I can see is someone who is a biological male thinking they needs to tell ‘ladies’ to get it together. The joke being that they assume we have no clue.

The OED definition of transwoman suggests your wrong in your use/understanding of the terminology @StealthSpinach. I’d have a read.

The definition of a transwoman is a male who decides they have a gender identity of a woman.
Anyone born male who identifies as the opposite sex is a transwoman.
A transwoman is a transwoman, not a woman - just as a woman (female) is not a transwoman.

Which is the basic problem with the demure trend. Its not done with a female socialisation but a male one. Its telling women what to be or not be with no awareness of the prejudice that women live their lives with.

So male. They are what a woman actually can’t be. No woman can be a transwoman. Because a transwoman can’t be a woman, just as a woman can’t be a transwoman.

I will try to explain -
You mistakenly called the tiktoker a “woman”.
The tiktoker is actually a “transwoman”.
Therefore the tiktoker is a male identifying as a woman.
A transgender identifying male = a transwoman = a male (because to be a transwoman, one must be male AND identify as a woman - thus one cannot BE a woman).
So not a woman.

There is no happens to be about it. The person is not a woman, a woman is female this person is male.

It’s a joke about the travails of women being asked to be ladylike, to sit nicely, tinkly laugh, don’t take up too much room…

In a world where women are actually being expected to be silent and covered outside the house, not to use social media and so on, it’s really not funny. And when that ‘joke’ is in the repertoire of a womanface practitioner, it’s trippley galling.

I mean, come on? Where is the joke? Can we joke about the oppression of a few other groups? I can think of some corkers.

Obviously I won’t as it would be tasteless and offensive. Like this one.
