Can Kamala protect women?

WandsOut · 24/08/2024 11:41

Seems to be a lot of support for her from female friends but then what about her support for men in women's prisons...

How influenced is she by the current Biden administration? Will she be listening to Rachel Levine? What will she actually do for women if she can't define what a woman is?

You think Trump will? 🤣

Takoneko · 25/08/2024 11:09

Maybe I’ve been over optimistic.

I’m going to cross my fingers and hope that the momentum stays with her.

@PaterPower Everything I’ve seen so far in the polls suggests that Democrats will keep control of the senate. What makes you think it will be Republican dominated?

When I look at the list of Senate seats up for election I can only see the Republicans having any chance of flipping the Arizona and Nevada seats, and that feels pretty unlikely given the current polling.

The Reps only need to swing two of the contested seats to control the Senate, and many of the polling firms seem to think it’s within their reach still, even with Harris’ current popularity. And, of course, her honeymoon may not stretch to November.

The Democrats didn’t care enough about a woman’s right to an abortion to, you know, ACTUALLY protect it when they had the opportunities (and their were several times, from Clinton on, where they had senate majorities and could have pushed a bill through to cement the right).

Bader-Ginsburg didn’t retire when she should have, choosing to die in post, which opened the door for Trump to change the political bias in the SC. The direction of travel on Roe vs Wade was clear, and successive Dem administrations chose to ignore it.

I’m sure there’s lots of Democrats kicking themselves that they didn’t do that but federal law can also be vacated by a SC court ruling and would have been simply repealed the second republicans took control of congress anyway. The right would have been no more entrenched that way.

I also think you overstate the Democrats opportunities to do this. Clinton, Biden and Obama each had 2 years of united government. So in the last 32 years there have been 6 years of united Democratic government.

There is just no way that Clinton or Obama could have got that kind of legislation through. Abortion and contraception almost sunk the affordable care act for Obama and he had to make compromises to get it through.

None of the Democrat presidents has realistically had the political capital to do this.

OvaHere · 25/08/2024 10:03

The only thing any of these people care about, Republican or Democrat, is power and keeping that power.

PaterPower · 25/08/2024 09:52

KH isn’t going to do anything very much in office if she / the Dems can’t also swing at least small majorities in the two houses.

If she, as is likely, ends up facing a Republican dominated Senate then her chances of getting abortion rights (or almost anything else even vaguely ‘liberal’) onto the statute book are almost zero.

Why people do not question she is not giving interviews or be questioned but choosing to say whoever she choose to put out there?

Cos it's For The Greater Good? Who knows. Makes no sense to me.

I found RFK Jr's speech sobering. But I imagine even saying this is WRONG

Do people bother to check the facts of posters like this? The weirdness is their interpretation and twisting of things.
It is laughable someone linking Trump to Epstein while being a Democrat. Clinton up to the neck with Epstein and also having BJ by her mistress at the time h was president in the office. So much for the morally superior Democrats.

KH is dangerous and out of her depth. Why people do not question she is not giving interviews or be questioned but choosing to say whoever she choose to put out there? It is beyond believe. As for women she is focusing in the young votes and proper weirdos like her stepdaughter who is pro everything going that is wrong today. I am not talking about abortion btw.

Again, Clinton is not the democratic nominee.

I think he deserved to be impeached for the Lewinsky thing and was very lucky to be acquitted given he clearly lied to Congress about an abuse of power. Like many other powerful creeps he had links to Epstein. But he is not the Democratic nominee and Trump is the republican one. Luckily for Trump Epstein died in federal prison while Trump was still president.

KH being dangerous is a ridiculous statement when Trump incited an insurrection, used the presidency to enrich himself, cozied up to dictators and leaked classified information to hostile powers.

Takoneko · 24/08/2024 11:49

It’s a binary choice between her and Trump. There is no world in which she could possibly be worse for women than another Trump presidency. Trump is on camera saying that he thinks women who have abortions need to be punished, there’s some truly terrifying stuff for women in the project 2025 plans. JD Vance believes the natural role of the post-menopausal woman is as a carer for grandchildren. They are weird, creepy little misogynists who have no business being anywhere near the levers of power.

That’s leaving aside Trump’s links to Epstein and the fact that he was found liable in court for sexual assault.

I don’t believe anyone could look at Trump and Vance and then decide that Kamala Harris is the riskier choice for women.

Harris wrote, or allowed her name to be put to a letter written by others, to the odious Dylan M, congratulating him on his time "as a girl", which in my view made her credibility vanish.

Trump and Vance are unhinged, dangerous monsters who are no more capable of the offices they seek than the nearest empty takeaway cup. What must be disappointing to voters is to have to choose between the least offensive of two candidates rather than one who will do something useful.

PinkFrogss · 24/08/2024 21:28

Well she can certainly protect them from another Trump presidency

WandsOut · 24/08/2024 20:54

Trans ideology is never a single issue - it affects many many aspects of women's lives. It's frustrating that people try and reduce it to a single issue (transphobia) and therefore minimise the long term effects it has on women's healthcare, safety and rights.

OP posts:
WandsOut · 24/08/2024 20:48

@Overtheatlantic so she doesn't believe transwomen are women?

She doesn’t think men are women. Good luck trying to reduce her to a one issue category. You can’t successfully do that.

Takoneko · 24/08/2024 18:30

TheMamaBear · 24/08/2024 18:27

Trump is obviously the best choice if you care about the safety of women and girls, if I was American I would be proud to vote for him as the alternative is just too scary to think about.

I think it says something that I genuinely can’t tell if you’re being serious.

Allie47 · 24/08/2024 18:29

I'm not sure she even WANTS to protect women so whether she CAN or not is a purely academic question tbh.

RoyalCorgi · 24/08/2024 18:26

Let's also remember that when Harris was VP, Biden removed the troops from Afghanistan, with the consequence that millions of Afghan women are now virtually prisoners in their own home, thanks to the Taliban. So I don't have masses of confidence in her to protect women, no.

Followyouinto · 24/08/2024 18:12

Overtheatlantic · 24/08/2024 17:30

Yes Kamala Harris can and will protect women. She will work to bring back Roe v Wade, she will work to provide better access to affordable healthcare, she will provide a $25k subsidy to first time home owners. Let her get started.

But she thinks men are women - so how can she protect women when she doesn’t even know what a woman is @Overtheatlantic

@LoremIpsumCici

I can only go on the little that you’ve written. If I’ve misunderstood what you mean then I’m happy for you to explain what you did mean.

I assumed the “will not, cannot and does not” referred to “will not, cannot and does not protect women”. But maybe I misunderstood. Apologies if so.

Preventing a Donald Trump presidency protects women.

Yes you have misunderstood my post.

What I mean is that K cannot, will not and does not protect women, especially Muslim women.

The rest is a fairy sandcastle you have imagined I might think about Trump.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

I have no idea what you think of Trump except that you don’t think that Kamala Harris would protect women (particularly Muslim ones) from anything. The logical conclusion of that is that you don’t think they would be any better off if she wins the election. As the only other candidate with any chance of winning is Donald Trump, that suggests that you think Trump would be no worse for them than Harris. If you think that Harris would be better for them then voting for Harris would, by definition, protect those women.

Ok, carry on. Wrong on all counts btw.

Takoneko · 24/08/2024 17:36

LoremIpsumCici · 24/08/2024 17:32

Sure you can think that if you want. Please don’t presume to know my opinion on Trump though. In addition, it’s not like the only choices are Kamala or Trump.
