Just saw this on threads. How is it ok. To wish someone dead? How is that being on "the right side of history"?
I disagree with lots of people on various things. I've never thought "I'd rather hear s/he is dead"

@sadmillenial how has she put people in danger? I genuinely don't understand what people mean by that.

Her "point" can be interpreted more than 1 way.

I get and agree with violent men not being allowed in women's prisons etc but I still don't understand why she posted multiple times about a (non-criminal) trans football manager to her 14M followers (and the tabloids who echo everything she tweets)? What did that achieve exactly other other than put the spotlight on a trans woman who was just living her life exposing her to potential bullying?

Trans women don't even need to be a criminal or competing in sports against women to make JK Rowling's timeline, they just need to exist.

Im aware this discussion invokes very intense responses, so ill just say right out the door that i am not firmly on either side of the TWAW debate. I genuinely haven't sat down with it enough to know how i feel about all aspects of it.
However, i do have real issues with this; "I still don't understand why she posted multiple times about a (non-criminal) trans football manager to her 14M followers (and the tabloids who echo everything she tweets)?"

JKR retweeted a comment from a doctor who argued for trans youth to have access to support within the nhs. He had about 200 followers compared to her millions of followers, and that just doesnt sit right with me. That feels like (to be kind) an unconscious misuse of platform, and (if not so kind) an abuse of power. These arguments are for the courts, national and international organisations. There's no good in pointing millions of people to abuse a single doctor with no reach or influence

whether we agree with her or not, JKR has made some very poor decisions on social media and put people in danger. I can agree with some arguments, but i'll never think that this is acceptable

It's funny to me how people have decided JKR is some kind of conservative who only wants women to look stereotypically feminine despite her never having said that. When IK was at the Olympics and not wearing makeup, people strawmanned that JKR was holding IK to her strict personal beauty standards. After IK's people started a campaign for her to appear in a beauty-related ad and have on earrings, longer, styled hair and what appears to be either or all of the following: heavy makeup; Photoshop; filters, people now complain that JKR still doesn't believe IK is female. Well, quite. Meanwhile I still recall people mocking the photograph of the women JKR had lunch with months ago because some of them were butch, with short hair and no makeup, and saying they looked like men.

If I apply one of those filters which changes me into an old person, a baby or a cat, does it change me into an old person, a baby or a cat?

Or do I stay as a woman in my 40s.

Equally if I have extensive plastic surgery to make me look younger, do I actually become younger?

So why does a male using a filter or having plastic surgery suddenly become female?

Should we be concerned about filters affecting our DNA? Should we be worried that we'll grow a mutant arm after having a boob reduction?

I'm just trying to get my head around some of the daft logic going on.

So the fact he repeatedly abused her, prior to any response from her, is totally irrelevant?

The only thing that was a problem is her responding to a pattern of abuse? She's supposed to put up with that level of abuse because she's got too many followers? Right ok.

I mean, god only knows what would happen if he had refrained from actively targeting her with abuse. Maybe she wouldn't have called him out for his pattern of abusive behaviour to multiple women. ..

...it's not like she was his first victim now is it?

i have read many times TW saying they have a lady penis

is that the wrong thing to say now?

is it just a penis or are people supposed to call it a vagina?

Only transwomen can say they have a lady penis, often as a form of abuse.

We just can't point out the penis or the abuse even if we see it.

It's a dynamic which makes you ponder somewhat.

You are deliberately misinterpreting her point. You know this.

I doubt she has any strong feelings either way about the aesthetic qualities of Khelifs makeup. She is simply pointing out that the application does not make Khelif a woman.

It’s about female control. I suspect a lot of them hero worshipped her and can’t believe she won’t say what they want like so many people in the public eye have been forced to, even if they don’t believe it.So they call her a nazi etc.
I suspect a lot of the hate she gets is from a demographic of young people who don’t really believe what they say but are committed to the cause. The fact they can’t say things and cancel her is infuriating to her.
I went to HP studios last week and it was rammed btw. When the new series comes out her wealth will go through the roof.
She’s a queen and I hope she writes Strike books forever.

Gorgonemilezola · 24/08/2024 22:59

'Which is exactly what Caster Semenya went through and now she doesn't race women any more. Because of unfairness.'

And I doubt we'll see Khelif boxing in women's competitions again either.

Keepingcosy · 24/08/2024 21:57

Missing the point. JKR is saying that feminisation does not make you any more or less a woman. The filtered PR image of Khelif is meaningless compared to a simple gender test.

Which is exactly what Caster Semenya went through and now she doesn't race women any more. Because of unfairness.

Also, do people really think JKR is alone? She's literally posting on behalf of all the coaches and athletes who asked for Khelif to be gender tested in the first place.

ILikeDungs · 24/08/2024 21:34

slag another women's make-up
If JKR is going to judge other women's appearances

As Posie Parker, late of this parish, has said when needed: HE'S A MAN! Sorry people I don't know how to make bigly letters but if I did...

RufustheFactualReindeer · 24/08/2024 21:32

Filters can be awful

honestly if some of the people i see with obvious filters on their pictures ever go missing the police will never find them

RufustheFactualReindeer · 24/08/2024 21:30

She hasn’t shamed women for their application of makeup

stop making stuff up

I wouldn't give her the satisfaction of calling her a "baddie", but she does seem rather obsessed with people who are either trans or don't meet her criteria of what a woman should be.

Not long ago she was obsessed with a trans football manager (who had done nothing wrong except exist), now she's obsessed with Imane Khelif.

a billionaire with 14M followers on twitter and almost everything she tweets is repeated by the tabloids, and this is what she chooses to use it for?

I would usually say "not my prob, go ahead" other than she could be putting trans women and other women at risk of harm with her tweets.

btw where is her chum Bindel? Or is there a game going on where people go quiet from twitter so everyone guesses where they are?

How is she putting transwomen at risk? She's not incited any risk or violence at any point?
And she's definitely not said anything to put real women at risk, everything she says is promoting keeping women and girls safe.

Women shouldn't be shamed for their application of make-up either if it doesn't conform to JKR's liking.

@Christinapple should all people be shamed for a little surgical or non surgical enhancement? Should we all stay natural? Interesting.

If JKR is going to judge other women's appearances (how very feminist of her?) I'm sure she wouldn't mind a little discussion of her own appearance being judged? Are her pics photoshopped or is that botox I see? Come on, virtually noone looks perfectly smooth and flawless at age 60 especially if they like a little drink or two.

But JKR isn't using her photos as some kind of proof that she isn't 60 because she doesn't look it.

So you think that jkr is being mean about someone’s appearance

and you lower yourself right down to what you feel is their level

says a lot about you…

RufustheFactualReindeer · 24/08/2024 19:24

You go for it chris

i don’t generally comment on anyone’s appearance but you do you

thats not heavy makeup

it is a photo thats been photoshopped beyond recognition

JustSpeculation · 24/08/2024 18:57

Could you help me understand what was achieved when she kept posting snide nasty remarks about a trans football manager? Who happened to be happily married, supported by the team she manages and the other teams, and isn't a criminal?

I saw the football manager got a lot of abuse from JK Rowling's followers, but the people who already supported her were continuing to support her. So what's the outcome from that other than to bully a trans woman who is doing nothing wrong except existing? I keep hearing the word "witch hunt" but that appears to be what JK Rowling is doing to other women.

@Christinapple , I'm afraid I can't help you other than pointing you again at Rowling's essay, which will give you the insight you need to get her angle.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 24/08/2024 18:07

Christinapple · 24/08/2024 17:46

Go ahead and keep laughing at transphobic abuse, we know at this point it doesn't win votes or lawsuits. I heard the owner of the Giggle app laughed in court at an offensive transphobic caricature of the trans woman which doesn't go down well with the judge?

I thought TWAW and some women have a penis and lesbians have to accept lady penis.
