This is from the BBC article

When Tickle’s lawyer Georgina Costello KC cross examined Grover, she said:
“Even where a person who was assigned male at birth transitions to a woman by having surgery, hormones, gets rid of facial hair, undergoes facial reconstruction, grows their hair long, wears make up, wears female clothes, describes themselves as a woman, introduces themselves as a woman, uses female changing rooms, changes their birth certificate – you don’t accept that is a woman?

So that’s a woman is it? Would anyone argue a woman who didn’t do those things was NOT a woman? (Well, yeah, but we know exactly who has always said that don’t we?)

This means it is no longer possible to have male free spaces/ services - you have to accommodate males who have a female identity or else that is discrimination on basis of gender identity.

As Dennis Kavanagh says on Twitter, this means that there can be no men's single-sex spaces either. So every woman in Australia needs to go to her nearest gay bar or sauna, and stand & stare.

Except women don't do this sort of thing. Which is why M. Tickle is never going to be the woman he wants to be.

He doesn’t want to be a woman. He wants to keep his dick and all his male privilege while being able to force women to participate in his perverted sexual fetish.

Now now, she knew she was going to lose this round because it's all about the letter of the law.
The Supreme court is different. She discusses the process in most of her interviews.

Thanks @Omlettes and @ArabellaScott for a bit of optimism.

I'm massively pissed off today for a bunch of reasons, some personal and some not and won't derail and bore with the details.

But this is one of the several reasons for my bad mood.

And I will indulge a slight derail on another reason:

Celebrity related. I take very little interest in celebrity life but I had previously thought Joe Wickes seemed quite a decent sort, passion for health and fitness, all round family man. Now he has revealed he likes drinking cupfuls of his wife's breastmilk. 🤮

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's just not very bright and doesn't know there are big fetish groups around breastmilk, breastfeeding etc. Julie Bindel has written about it. And hasn't thought about the implications of lots of his followers jumping on his bandwagon and seeking out supplies of breastmilk, demanding their wives and girlfriends produce extra just for them.

But Australian breastfeeding circles are double fucked now, I predict an influx of men wanting breastmilk supplies and God knows what. Ugh. Vile.

Fuck you Roxy Tickle.
Fuck you Julia Gillard.
And now Fuck you Joe Wickes.

🤮🤮🤮

Sorry for the derail.

ApocalipstickNow · 23/08/2024 08:22

”Julia Gillard is as much a feminist as Nicola Sturgeon.”

Although this kinda makes me hope Real Feminist Nicola of this parish invites her friend Real Aussie Feminist to post because I’d enjoy that.

The thought of Sall having to hand over money to him is sending me crazy.

I'd give it over in 1p (or Australian equivalent) coins. shitbag.

I'm late to the table on this one, having only seen the Beeb headline this morning.

I'm horrified. Hope to god this is getting airtime everywhere so it shines a light on the unholy crap that is unfolding for biological women. 😡

BreatheAndFocus · 23/08/2024 08:21

Such a stupid comment from the judge: ”But Justice Robert Bromwich said in his decision on Friday that case law has consistently found sex is “changeable and not necessarily binary”, “

Sex isn’t changeable, and if it’s not binary, then what’s the third sex, eh? 🙄 These people know they’re talking crap, but they’re so blinded by the good feelz they get from ‘being kind’, that they’re falling over themselves to out-drivel each other.

If Sal loses higher up, she just has to set up an app with a carefully worded qualifying thing that excludes men determined to bully and oppress women. For women AFAB and confirmed at puberty (yes, yes, I know it’s their daft language)?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 23/08/2024 08:17

I wish JKR was back from her holidays. We could do with her reach to let the world know what is happening.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 23/08/2024 08:12

Solidarity with Australian sisters.

The fight continues but women (and decent men) around the world are cheering you on!

Just looked at the Herald Sun (main Melbourne newspaper) and the only mention of this case was really far down the front page. The 3rd article on this screen shot (re golf) piqued my interest - I can't read it as not subscribed, but does anyone know anything more about it?

We must try to stay positive. Millions of Australians previously sleep-walking through this will be peaked.
What will happen to the women's sports teams now if they can't keep out male players?

fromorbit · 23/08/2024 07:50

Short term loss, but now the next stage of the fight begins.

#IStandWithSallGrover is trending. The only way you can make people submit to this stuff long term is via Taliban style tactics. As long as women are free to speak sooner or later they will tear this nonsense down.

Sall Grover
Unfortunately, we got the judgement we anticipated.
The fight for women’s rights continues. 🙋‍♀️

Angie Jones
At work and my phone is ringing & pinging non stop with people who are not politically engaged, contacting me as their only “out” local Terf to express their disgust and outrage at the TickleVGiggle judgement. This is Australia’s “peak trans” moment. The public now realise the decimation of female only spaces and sports isn’t just something that is happening overseas. The Australian public aren’t going to stand for this nonsense.

guinnessguzzler · 23/08/2024 07:46

I find the final few sentences if the bbc article chilling

This isn't necessarily true. Precisely because it's at complete odds with English law.

And you still have medical liability to consider as a driving force which I think more significant than these type of claims which will only pour sunlight and rage into women.

And there is going to be continued backlash.

We are seeing a trend towards the far right politically across the western world. This largely is via men not women who still tend to be left leaning.

But the more this happens the more women are likely to resent and abandon liberalism.

The BBC commentary is far too one dimensional and isn't reflecting what else is happening politically.

None of it good I might add.

BananaBender · 23/08/2024 05:00

Gillard is a traitor. She screwed women over with the changes to the sex discrimination act when sex was removed and replaced by gender.

Religious institutions are exempt from anti discrimination. They can freely discriminate because religion.

Hello to anyone from my Australian forum. 👋 This is where we can freely talk about the subjects that are banned on that forum. It also means that you can’t complain and cry to a mod that you’re feeling triggered or upset and try to get members banned, so suck it up or go clutch some pearls.

Can you PM me the forum pls? ta

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2024 07:34

Supreme Court it is, then.

Remember Maya only won the ruling that GC beliefs are WORIADS on appeal.

Sometimes the longer term win is worth the early loss - in fact its generally been better in these situations to have them go higher up.

whereaw · 23/08/2024 07:33

Or apply to Freemasons (male lodges) and see what they have to say on the matter?

Snowypeaks · 23/08/2024 07:32

NecessaryScene · 23/08/2024 06:12

But why was it discrimination on the basis of gender identity? If Tickle is alleged to have a "female gender identity", surely there are plenty of women on the app also alleged to have "female gender identities" (whether they think they do or not).

And if he really is legally a "woman" there's nothing to distinguish him from them? He's not legally a "male with a female identity", surely? I thought he was claiming to be legally female.

It would have to be discrimination on some other basis - it could be "gender reassignment", if that's a legal thing, rather than "gender identity"?

Or is it "she perceived me to be male (though I'm not) and discriminated against me on that basis, which would be indirectly discriminatory against males with female gender identities - if they existed which they don't because they're female."

That was one of Sall's lawyer's arguments - either he's actually a woman OR he has a transgender identity. Non-binary women and women who claim to be men are accepted.

kiterunning · 23/08/2024 07:17

Supreme Court. Bring it on.

We already knew that Australian midwifery and breastfeeding circles were fully captured but now they are totally screwed. Still birth groups too. Plus any rape crisis services and so much more.

I feel like crying.

SensibleSigma · 23/08/2024 07:11

I wonder whether Sal could open a board for people without gendered identities? So Giggle for Girls would have a subsection for girls without gender identity. Would that work? Or is that direct discrimination? Pants.

FannyCann · 23/08/2024 07:09

Crouton19 · 23/08/2024 07:03

Religious institutions are exempt from anti discrimination. They can freely discriminate because religion.

So the courts/legislators agree that biological sex and sex-on-paper are different, but only in religious settings? Either sex = GI or it doesn't; the law seems to be unclear. Roll on the appeal!

NutellaEllaElla · 23/08/2024 06:52

What a fucked up judgement. I feel angry about it. Sal is a shero, how many people would be willing to go into this fight? With the financial implications (how is it ok that we have to rely on crowd funding to fight for basic human rights? At least we have this modern solution, it wouldn't have been possible before the internet), the stress and the sheer amount of time you have to put into it?

It tells me loud and fucking clear that the justice system is rigged against women. We cannot trust them to act fairly. They will bend their minds around biological impossibility to rule over us and it fucking stinks.

I'm not Australian but I am a woman and this affects me no matter my location. Solidarity with Sal and Australian women. Fuck the men.

HansHolbein · 23/08/2024 06:50

Another man throwing a strop.

I do hope he’s still refused access to Giggle 😁
