I really enjoyed this

The format worked really well. Jack played Helen a clip of an activist (GC or trans) and asked for Helen's thoughts on it. Helen was on the money as usual.

I found out about this podcast because India Willoughby was ranting about it on Twitter. So, err, thanks for the recommendation, India 😉

You'd love to have had HJ as a teacher. Failing that - go for an ould drink with her. She used to edit the Economist and is therefore probably a Tory. Presumably the sane and compassionate sort we often hear about , usually at election time , but never get to meet in real life. Or is that too large an assumption?

Imagine how more accessible maths may have been to those without a numerate bent? Unfortunately the left have left women. It feels those who now self identify as being left want to give women a huge kicking, so many women (who won’t join in the increasing oppression of our sex and associated rights) have become politically homeless. It feels ‘bastards to the left, bastards to the right’ to me at the moment.

I do remember Andrew Tyrie at the Treasury Select Committee interviewing Dominic Cummings and ilk. AT (a Conservative MP even) was so impressive. In the Post Office Horizon Inquiry, it was due to a few MP’s (Conservatives too) who raised the pressure on the injustices being inflicted on the sub postmasters.

Sadly, it seems to be the likes of Pantie Bliss telling the stories on Irish media so far....

Well yeah, the downside is that quite a few Irish people have heads full of wee sweetie mice...

The value of having two Irish people in conversation! We are a storytelling culture after all...

And why did India call Helen a 'religious biddy'?? 😂

She's said publicly that she's an atheist. I mean...🤷🏻‍♀️

trying to work out what the fuck is going on in India's head? I would start off with something a bit easier, like quantum physics.

India hopes HJ rots from the inside out 😮 Charming as per usual.

I'd say that's unlikely to occur.

India on the other hand.....

morningtoncrescent62 · 21/08/2024 17:33

Thanks, OP. I absolutely love Helen Joyce, can't listen to enough of her. She's such a clear, intelligent speaker. I saw a clip from this interview earlier in the week, look forward to listening to the full version.

Oh, how utterly charming.

I agree with Helleofabore said a couple of comments ago, that it's unlikely to be HJ who rots from the inside out.

334bu · 21/08/2024 17:05

Thank you for link. Helen wonderful as usual

kiuy · 21/08/2024 15:44

IW has become increasingly unpleasant on X. India usually restricts responses
so only the loudest of TRA voices can interract, but when they leave responses open, there a pile on of digusted voices.

I'd be amazed if Mr Thorn has had 'bottom surgery'

I'd love to know what really went on between him and "Contrapoints"

Helleofabore · 21/08/2024 12:42

Rotting from the inside out could be a real possibility for anyone with a fuck hole cavity implanted into their body. Just pointing out that that is not an impossibility.

I'm on the left myself but once had a great Eng Lit teacher who was High Anglican and old fashioned one nation Tory. But his sort have gradually been driven out since the 80s. In some respects I quite like the Tories being led by grifters, racists and lunatics, even though they have caused such harm. With some one like Helen in charge they might sweep the country.

yes, I think she describes herself as a centre right tory. Of all the good and sensible people on our side working to kill the gender bollocks with fire, I think Helen is probably the very best there is at explaining in crystal clear terms what is going on. She is also very, very calm. How she didn't end up throwing rotten fruit at Fred during that "debate" with tatchell et al., I shall never know.

Aw this was a great listen.

I also loved the end where they both admit to talking too much; this is a constant internal struggle of mine and I must have Irish roots 😃

JKRismyPatronus · 21/08/2024 10:50

HJ is brilliant, I could listen to her all day.

Really good podcast. Helen Joyce is so good at articulating complex ideas in accessible ways.

DrBlackbird · 21/08/2024 10:30

She’s very thorough, measured, and fair.

Igmum · 21/08/2024 08:48

Thanks Biddyboo I love HJ too. India doing the Streisand effect eh?

Helleofabore · 21/08/2024 08:43

Thank you for posting. That was a interesting format to watch. Helen really has a way of describing things that makes it all feel fresh, even though most of it is what she has discussed before. And he made it all easy.
