She could have put this to bed by sharing DNA tests. I'm struggling to feel sympathy, although it must be horrid.

It was one of the things that was mentioned on the Aston data scraping thread.

'In February, a deal between Google and Reddit gave the search engine giant access to Reddit’s data API, which delivers real-time content from Reddit’s platform. This provided “Google with an efficient and structured way to access the vast corpus of existing content on Reddit,” while allowing it to use that information to train its AI models.
In May, Reddit’s other deal with OpenAI allowed the latter to access real-time content from Reddit’s data API, so that it can use that information within its ChatGPT platform and other products too. The partnership benefited Reddit too as not only did OpenAI become an advertising partner on Reddit, but the deal was also positioned as one that would “enable Reddit to bring new AI-powered features to Redditors and mods” and use OpenAI’s large language models to build applications.'

channelnews : Reddit CEO Wants Tech Companies To Pay For Scraping Its Data

After cutting separate deals with Google and OpenAI earlier this year to allow them to use content from its website, Reddit now wants Microsoft to come to the negotiating table too. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has called on the Satya Nadella-led tech gian...

I was one of those who trusted reddit just before they kicked all the women out. Bits of it still have relevant, niche or up to date information.
Bit of a double edge sword.

I think Reddit has been used to 'train' a lot of AI generators.

You have to be kidding? Who the fuck thinks Reddit is a site of intelligent discussion about these topics?

The more I see parts of this post, the more it seems to the fuckwittery.

How many of us have ever had our chromosomes checked at birth? Most of us simply take our identity for granted, without ever having to prove it to anyone.

This is also irrelevant as a discussion point unless the person involved wants to enter a protected category of sport that requires eligibility to be established. Would people make these ‘privacy is paramount’ comments for people needing to establish eligibility for any other category: age, ability, amateur status, nationality?

This statement is used often, but it is simply a weak argument considering all categories that are based around protected categories require some kind of proof.

But also, again, as said over and over, many athletes find they have medical reasons that they cannot control that mean they cannot compete in sport they way they wish too. At all levels.

And yet, people use this weak argument as if simply saying you are in a protected category, or feeling you should be in that protected category, means that you gain access. This is, quite simply, entitlement. And those who are using this argument fail to understand this.

perhaps because they are being spoonfed their arguments from others while not actually having understood the argument or thought it through. Whereas building your argument from using original source material and having a deeper understanding of the situation and how discrimination, and how equity works means that you don’t make such glaring inconsistencies.

How many of us have ever had our chromosomes checked at birth? Most of us simply take our identity for granted, without ever having to prove it to anyone. At what point do people think she “became” a man? The idea is absurd and dehumanizing. Imane has been living her life as a woman, facing all the challenges and triumphs that come with it, and now she’s being forced to defend her very existence.

OK its an AI bot post but its really struck me how much the phrasing is so similar to tra about defending existence. The simple fact is khelif hasn't been facing all the challenges women do, no boobs, no periods, probably no sexual harassment, from the sound of the upbringing didn't get tied to the house the way girls in the village would be.

Do I feel sympathy for someone who must have had a hell of a time going through a male puberty unexpectedly yes however I have even more sympathy for the women who genuinely lost out due to the complete lack of integrity of the IOC and various others.

Bought one for my DD just now - they haven’t had them in Sainsbury's for months (at least not by the time I get there) … was the last box of two. Serendipity.

I've been thinking this as well during the "it must have been totally horrible" commentary. If I thought I was female and then learned I wasn't, particularly in a very conservative area, it might be like hitting the jackpot.

Well, considering his supporters seemed to have no issue with a Muslim 'woman' being hoisted onto an unrelated male's shoulders with her naked thighs wrapped round his neck, it's possibly quite a good thing he learned he's not female......

Possibly it was quite a relief when he figured out he was a male during puberty given the differences in freedom and opportunities given to females and males in his community.

How would you feel if you have been brought up as female, always thought you were female, didn't have male genitalia and someone did a test (no one seems to have said what the test was and what it showed) and told you that you were male. Would you suddenly think Oh yes I'm a man or would you still think you were a woman.

I would probably still feel like me. In the body I think of as female.
However I wouldn't enter a sex based competition knowing I wasn't actually a female.

Maybe I would be campaigning for a category in the Para Olympics to reflect my DSD so I could fight other women with the same condition.

Clearly Khelif has been fully aware of his own status and karyotype for some time now, considering the hi-tech expert international support team behind him. This was Operation Win Olympic Gold in action. So, as @PatatiPatatras says, cry me a fucking river.

It’s utterly heart breaking to imagine what Imane Khelif must be going through. To have your identity questioned and to be publicly called a man must be incredibly painful, especially after dedicating your life to your sport and achieving such success. I can’t even begin to fathom how devastating it must be to face that kind of scrutiny and cruelty from people who don’t know you.

No one deserves to go through this kind of public trial. The focus should be on supporting her as a person, respecting her identity, and recognizing the hard work and dedication she’s put into her sport. It’s a reminder of the importance of empathy and kindness, especially in situations where we might not fully understand someone else’s experience.

Cry me a fucking river.

Ever heard of puberty?

You know that part where girls and boys find out how harsh being an adult can be? that's usually when those chromosomes make a massive appearance.

Yeah that's the point this bloke would have known something was up and stopped living at least partially as female.

You can stop with the dramatic violins.

They've both been beaten by women so not a given they will win and I haven't heard of any boxers having their heads boxed off.

Have you not? Have you not heard of Angela Carini? If not, how can you possibly claim to be making informed comments?

Watch the ten minute YouTube video, linked earlier in the thread and learn how Erika - Erik, the Austrian women's Olympic skier dealt with it. He's a man who found out and it was a tremendous psychological shock, but he accepted that he was a man and lived a life full of honour.

RedToothBrush · 11/08/2024 16:44

Yep we are definitely the worst thing in humanity aren't we? How very dare we.

Badge of honour, surely. It also demonstrates that poster's relative standards for women. I've never forgotten this from Julie Bindel:

Rounding off the panel was journalist and co-founder of Justice for Women Julie Bindel. She discussed how she had become a public hate figure among trans rights activists when she had an article published in 2003 in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine in which she interviewed a male to female transsexual who believed that her psychiatrist had been too quick to diagnose her as needing surgery.
…
In 2008 she was nominated for Stonewall journalist of the year, but a mob of around 200 people turned up and protested outside the awards venue.
“According to the judge, I should have won, based on the readers’ votes, but I was denied the award because they were afraid of the activists storming the building,” Bindel explained. “After this I was picketed and no-platformed everywhere.”
“I’ve been called a bigot, Hitler — it’s always Hitler, never Pol Pot, never a mid-range dictator,” she quipped.
…
But, she said, the worst incident that occurred was in 2017 when she was invited to the Working Class Movement Library in Salford to give a talk about growing up as a working-class lesbian.
Bindel described what the activists did as “horrendous.”
“They tried to get the library’s funding pulled, they blocked the phone lines and they turned up and banged on the doors” to try to get the library to cancel her talk, but it refused to cave in and the meeting went ahead.
“What happened to me was a warning to other feminists,” Bindel said.
“But since when were we a women’s movement that decided we would keep schtum and let a few women take the shit? Since when have we capitulated because we might be seen as ‘nasty’?”

Soz!! You’re right - all of those things pale into insignificance compared to making men a bit sad and not letting them have everything they want

This has exposed the worst of humanity to me and I feel physically ill. To watch a mob of people repeatedly misgender someone due to false information is one thing. On top of that, demanding a generic test and medical evidence of their sex. Entitlement and bigotry. Disgusting. This is why people hurt themselves. This is why people are murdered for their differences by intolerant and power hungry bullies. Shame on all of you. You all are so disappointing.

so the worst of humanity is not (off the top of my head)

  • men gang raping female civilians in war zones
  • stoning women to death for adultery
  • banning girls from having an education.
  • abolishing abortion so women and girls are forced to give birth to babies they don’t Want or risk their own health trying to protect cure an abortion illegally
  • murdering young girls enjoying a Taylor swift party

it’s - checks notes - refusing to call a man with DSD a woman

is there any chance at all that you might just be being a bit silly here?

All your examples of the 'worst of humanity' (which I agree with) have one thing in common - hatred of women and girls and seeing them as 'lesser'.

Attempting to force women to lie about what they see is very much the thin end of the wedge of such misogyny.

I look at Khelif and Lin and I see MEN. And I'll say what I see. That's my right to free speech. Not only is it what I see, it's backed up by all available evidence. And there's no evidence to the contrary.

Anyone who tries to shame me into compliance with some kind of weird misogynistic emperor's new clothes fantasy can fuck right off, you only make me more determined to protect women's rights. My sympathies are with the women boxers cheated out of safe sport, their place in the Olympics and medals, and in some cases who've been injured.
