TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

So, sorry, to be clear, there's no testing at all across the Olympics, other than random drug-testing, that might throw up chromosome or testosterone anomalies? In all sports?

Edited

Individual associations set their own entry criteria for sex. The IOC don't test at all.

Boxing is something of an anomoly because the IBA, who were responsible, had been removed due to its chair being Russian. The IOC had to take over and set its own entry criteria.

Well that clears up any residual doubt in Khelif's case. Male chromosomes, male puberty, male range T-levels at time of previous world championships which she was disqualified from, recently reduced T-levels so Khelif was within the female range and didn't flag up in doping tests at the olympics. We all know that temporarily reducing T-levels doesn't undo the work of male puberty. So, clearly, male advantage.

Runningupthecurtains · 10/08/2024 23:58

So XY chromosomes and male testosterone but a woman?
So not CAIS or Swyers as the scolds like to insist but a male with a male DSD that went through male puberty despite being 'assigned' female at birth. So he has almost certainly known since puberty.
Gosh it almost like that what we said along.
Anyone that has been complicit in this whole scenario should hang their head in shame.
Allowing someone with the body type that results from male puberty into a boxing with women is a fucking disgrace!

It's become very clear that women are only useful to the IOC to provide literal and metaphorical punching bags for mediocre men who would never win against male opponents.

ditalini · 10/08/2024 23:47

Well clearly not. They've confessed to the chromosomes and testosterone, they just don't give a shit.

Incidentally, as soon as this story broke I saw people saying that on Facebook -- that IK is XY, just also a woman*. So that has been the claim.

*Because of reasons

And the whole issue could be put to bed with a 10 second cheek swab.

'Is a woman' is meaningless without stating the criteria used. Is it the IOC one of 'according to passport' or something actually scientific?

At this stage in the game, you could field a 40 year old father of six from Slough who's spent his whole life hauling bricks and as long as there's an F in his passport and they're the same weight, it's fine for him to get in an olympic boxing ring and knock seven bells out of some poor girl whose worked her arse off for that moment.

annejumps · 10/08/2024 23:44

Good lord, just say "She's a woman because we said so."

Nothing says sensitive lady like smacking women in the head...

eatfigs · 10/08/2024 23:42

So a male who underwent testosterone suppression. But why? The Olympics only requires official identity documents stating female.

Well from the article (using Google translate as my French is abysmal, so happy to be corrected)...

"For Imane, she was born a daughter. She was raised like a girl. She has a girl's sensitivity."

“After the 2023 World Championships, where she was disqualified, I took the lead by contacting a renowned endocrinologist at the Paris University Hospital, Kremlin-Bicêtre, who examined her. He confirmed that Imane is indeed a woman, despite her karyotype and testosterone level. He said: "There is a problem with her hormones, with her chromosomes, but she is a woman. That's all that mattered to us. We then worked with a doctor based in Algeria to monitor and regulate Imane's testosterone level, which is currently in the female standard”

So they're now happy to come clean, now the gold's in the bag.

Since a woman just means F on a passport I'm not sure why they bothered fannying about with an endocrinologist. It's not about the male puberty, reach, muscle power, lung and heart capacity, greater punch strength guys, you've got the F in the passport and the gold in your swag bag.

annejumps · 10/08/2024 23:40

"There is a problem with her hormones, with her chromosomes"

But nevermind about all that....

My absolute favourite argument is about him suing for libel. I can't wait to follow that case!

Oscar Wilde springs to mind

Indeed!

I'm confused- I was looking at how much taller Khelif and Lin were compared to their competitors in their gold medal matches (assuming its a body fat thing) but looking at the official olympic app it has both Khelif and Yang as 5'10 - but Khelif looked a fair bit taller.

Lin at 5'9 was clearer taller than Szeremeta at 5'5.

But Yu-Ting and Khelif's progress onto gold medals has delivered a major rebuff to their critics.

I fail to see how and think that the exact opposite is the case. The internet is on fire at the moment and Moronic Matthew has poured more petrol on.

What a repulsive pr ck Its entirely deliberate at this point.

Unfortunately, that's what I've concluded, too.

Plasmodesmata · 10/08/2024 22:51

Yeah. Winning a gold each has really put that "unfair advantage" talk to bed.

Now we'll see the smooth switch to "they're just so talented."
