I read this article last night and I am livid. She discusses the riots in Rotherham. She mentions ‘a town with past tensions’. She makes no mention of the systematic and paedophilic rape of 1400 children.

classic guardian, don’t talk about it and don’t report it if it doesn’t fit the narrative.

I can’t wait for this women hating, gay people hating, MRM loving rag to bankrupt.

here’s the article below. Pls consider writing into complain. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/aug/05/a-dark-day-anger-in-rotherham-after-riot-at-hotel-housing-asylum-seekers

‘A dark day’: anger in Rotherham after riot at hotel housing asylum seekers

Its not 'past tensions' for locals and victims, these are ongoing issues.

''11 June 2024 - Child sex abusers are continuing to prey on youngsters in Rotherham more than 12 years after the grooming gang scandal was first exposed, locals have claimed.''

''The latest prosecution follows a five-year investigation by officers from the National Crime Agency's Operation Stovewood, the UK's biggest investigation into child abuse.
A spokesman told the Daily Mail: 'Our caseload so far involves over 200 arrests out of 300 suspects, and 1,150 victims. So far, there have been 33 convictions after 15 trials but there are further trials due to start and we have more than 50 live investigations.''

I've read both the Jay report, when it came out, and also Dame Louise Casey's report into Rotherham Council which came out in February 2015.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a74e65ee5274a3cb286815c/46966RotherhammReportPRINT.pdf

Her report shows that 70% of Rotherham councillors interviewed didn't agree with the Jay report and had ignored its findings.

The issues around perceptions and reality of race issues are discussed on pages 32-36 and in other sections where they crop up. And they did.

Do you actually read the Guardian? If you did you would realise that this is totally inaccurate. Why not try the Mail for a more balanced viewpoint .

The Guardian ceased to be a pro feminist and LGB paper when it decided that those groups were less important then maintaining ideological purity on the trans and immigration issues. They preferred to bully their women journalists out of the paper who dared flag the very real issues that were affecting women and the LBG community.

I read the Jay report on the Rotherham Child sexual exploitation case from a link on the Guardian website. I really recommend everyone who is interested on this thread to do the same. It is simply a stunning and horrifying piece of work by Professor Jay and should be better known.
It dawned on me as I read it that the real problem was patriarchy. Men in positions of power in society aided and abetted the abusers of vulnerable girls over years because that's what they wanted to do.
Incidently Professor Jay makes the point that no one knows if it was a cover up because the council or police didn't want to be accused of racism because the police failed to record the ethnic origin of the men they caught in cars with girls.
I really urge people to read the report for themselves, the Professor went into many of the questions people are raising here like if girls of Asian origin were also abused and how the local Asian origin community responded. I do advise you not to try to read it all in one go, it is the most horrible thing I think I have ever read. When Margaret Atwood said she hadn't made up anything in the Handmaids Tale she wasn't joking.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 11:03

Basically, everyone ignores the rights, safety and feelings of women and girls, they are secondary to pretty much every other issue.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 11:02

But it's "our women and girls" until it's the increase in DV after England games, or until it's white men doing the raping, it's not about women and girls at all

And I also agree with this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 11:01

People are more concerned about being labeled racist than about protecting women and girls. This hasn't changed.

Yes.

The issue with the rioters is that while past events may act as triggers, their anger stems mainly from a perspective of ‘they raped OUR women and girls.’ If these acts occurred solely within the Muslim community, would they react similarly? Racism and misogyny are closely linked. These rioters are far from being our defenders; they are regressive in their views. Unfortunately, some problematic elements within the Muslim community exploit Western sympathies by playing the Islamophobia card, even mocking it, as noted in the BBC article. People are more concerned about being labeled racist than about protecting women and girls. This hasn't changed.

I think you misunderstand. I read the original post from @Ereshkigalangcleg as saying that the Graun sweeping it under the carpet was the problem.

Yes, thank you. I stopped reading the Guardian for two reasons, its coverage of trans issues and banning of comments, even on so called "Comment is Free" articles, and the straw the broke the camels back was their "reporting" of the Cologne mass sexual assaults on NYE 2015.

I do occasionally read an article there, and read the recipes etc, but it hasn't been my paper of choice (and I used to buy a paper copy on Saturday and Sunday, did this since my late teens) for nearly a decade.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 10:48

This attitude is exactly why more than 1400 girls were raped - placing concern for ‘community tensions’ above the lives of over 1400 girls.

i am shocked and horrified to see such rape apology here.

I don't believe rioting is justified, ever. I also don't believe most of the rioters last weekend were primarily motivated by concern for girls, however I do think it fed into it and local feelings about the whole situation are understandably still high.

I don't think the proven cover up of the grooming gangs by media and authorities over many years was justified either, and I have argued for this, and basically got smeared as a far right sympathiser by disruptive posters, on other threads.

So I can't win here. I'm neither suggesting that the Rotherham grooming gangs shouldn't be taken seriously or that rioting is ever acceptable.

I'm certainly not a rape apologist. Advance search my other posts on this topic.

The elephant in the room is that not all migrants are of equal merit. Plenty of migrant groups from around the globe within a generation or two have successfully improved their lot compared to what their parents/grand parents had when they arrived. Crucially they have managed to retain their cultural identity while also establishing themselves in the professional middle classes. Other groups have carried significant cultural baggage that that prevents them from successfully integrating or progressing economically and have as a result largely remained at the bottom of the proverbial pile. The Guardian absolutely loathed to acknowledge this to the point of collective dissonance.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 10:41

Exactly this. They were still dismissing Rotherham as a racial smear campaign weeks before the offical report came out and were absolutely silent on the Cologne attacks until it became such a big story everywhere else they had to mention it. They are absolutely morally bankrupt when it comes to anything that challenges the approved narrative.

They also lied blatantly about the figures then only corrected themselves in a BTL comment, where hardly anyone would see it.

Agreed.

The Guardian has not exactly covered themselves in glory when reporting on anything of this nature. See their reporting on mass sexual assaults on women in Cologne on New Years Eve 2015.

She hasn’t said that at all. Go back and read her posts calmly.

A reminder of what this thread is about:

”I read this article last night and I am livid. She discusses the riots in Rotherham. She mentions ‘a town with past tensions’. She makes no mention of the systematic and paedophilic rape of 1400 children.

Poster here are justifying referring to the systematic and paedophilic rape of 1400 children as ‘past tensions’ because men might get violent.

No, I'm not, are you unable to read?

I'm saying that the police who covered it up in the first place are to blame for this entire situation, the tories who haven't provided people with a sense of community are to blame, the people that did the grooming are to blame.

However I do not, and will not, believe that setting fire to things is a legitimate way to express your anger.

No, I have not said that. Ever.

I have said that the actions of the police sre disgusting, and so are the actions of the men who set that holiday inn on fire.

Nowhere did I say it should be covered up.
