I read this article last night and I am livid. She discusses the riots in Rotherham. She mentions ‘a town with past tensions’. She makes no mention of the systematic and paedophilic rape of 1400 children.

classic guardian, don’t talk about it and don’t report it if it doesn’t fit the narrative.

I can’t wait for this women hating, gay people hating, MRM loving rag to bankrupt.

here’s the article below. Pls consider writing into complain. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/aug/05/a-dark-day-anger-in-rotherham-after-riot-at-hotel-housing-asylum-seekers

Rotherham was predominantly Asian men targeting white girls. The fact that other sexual abuse happens does not change the fact that the grooming gangs in Rotherham were Asian men targeting white girls and the lack of response was because people did not think those girls were worth upsetting ‘community relations’ or risk being accused of being racist for.

This is a huge oversimplification and does no credit to the victims at all.

1400 children in Rotherham were raped?

They were, by grooming gangs. Not the only place in the North where this happened, either. Also Devizes, I think. This is what people mean when they talk of a 'two tier' system. White working-class people kicking up a fuss are right-wing thugs, bigots, racists - choose whatever disparaging epithet you fancy. Disturbances such as those that took place in Leicester in September 22 (when the country was in mourning) between Muslims and (right-wing) Hindus (RSS and BJP supporters) were hardly mentioned until it got so bad some nationals picked it up. Perpetrators were jailed but it was definitely a sweep it under the carpet moment. Ditto the grooming gangs which were ignored for years because it was racist to bring up what was happening and anyway the girls were trash - working-class girls in care/vulnerable/in need of care and protection, that is.

Guardian used to be my paper of choice. Can't believe how much I loathe it now.

I agree. I was a life long Guardianista as it was also my parents paper of choice.

I gave up reading it over a decade ago as it gradually became a a parody of itself and I realised I only bought it for the little TV Guide. My parents also stopped buying it around the same time.

Quite.
Who is trafficking Eastern Europeans into brothels to be raped now?
Epstein was finding and pimping out teenagers to very rich men, overlooked because the teenagers were "gold diggers".

I suggest people listen to Samantha Morton being interviewed by Louis Theroux. She grew up in care and talks about the system and how it overlooked or even encouraged the sexual abuse of girls.

It's pretty depressing how embedded this myth that its a problem that's unique to certain communities has become.

It's criminal men, taking advantage of vulnerable women. In all contexts.

Hear hear, and I always think it’s weird how they can say with a straight face that Asian men are inherently more predatory but they don’t give a damn about all the white British men who sexually abuse not only British women and kids but also foreign women, particularly South East Asian women and children. Some of these men go to Thailand etc in person to do their vile deeds but increasingly it’s occurring online now as well.

It’s sad because I worked with foster care kids, of all races, and I know children from a wide variety of backgrounds are in care and more generally a lot of kids are abused.

My (white) friend I grew up with was abused in 3 (white) foster homes and she said she hates it how racists are hijacking this issue. We both wish more people genuinely cared about sexual abuse of ALL children and women and fought on all fronts against it.

As a woman, these angry drunk white English men you see rioting are the exact type of men to give me hassle while I’m on a train or walking around in town myself late at night and would call the concept of misogyny As “woke”

The idea that these are the defenders of women and children is a laughable. Especially when they’re terrorising women of colour and children. Or do non-white women and children not count??

I don't see it as a rape apology. These riots started by using the tragic Southport stabbings as an excuse. They are openly anti Muslim riots. The guy who did it wasnt muslim. They have attacked brown and black people who were walking home minding their own business. Most of the people rioting do not contribute anything useful to society. How does burning businesses and causing chaos help those in Southport or paedophilia in this country. Kids are being groomed by all colours in this country. It wasn't long ago a few gangs of white ppl were caught for paedophilia/grooming. Social media apps has made it so much harder to protect children from paedophilia. Yes I believe there needs to be restrictions on immigration so we can stabilise our economy but that will only be successful when partnered with withdrawal of us funding wars abroad, our govt ceasing to send billions to other countries, if we start minding our own business and pour those billions into education the nhs and our emergency services our economy and society will thrive.

So who do people think were pimping girls forty years ago? It wasn't Muslim men, it was afro Caribbean and white men. Prior to that it tended to be Irish men. Who consistently looked the other way? Men in power, men in the police. Did some of those men make money out of turning a blind eye, almost certainly.

I'm denying it was horrible, but I disagree that all Muslim man view white girls in this way. This particular group, yes - but they are lowlife who simply happened to be from one particular group of our society. Also, I would like to remind you this went on for so long not only because police feared being branded "racist" (idiotic, I agree), but also because until fairly recently these girls were branded "promiscuous" and even "underage prostitutes" by police and social services and were not seen as victims.

I used to work in foster care services and girls of any race are very vulnerable as predators assume no-one is looking out for them and police don’t care as much since they’re “just” foster care kids . Often sadly they’re correct in their assumptions.

If these were mostly middle white girls from secure families with status in Rotherham they wouldn’t have been ignored.

ETA: people who exclusively focus on Asian grooming gangs don’t really care about CSA, because most abuse takes place outside this context and occurs within families and communities. Yes look into various types of CSA and how it happens and how it can be stopped, but when you’re so tunnel vision about the one type of abuse where you see Asian men being over represented it’s clear you’re just racist.

Mention anything a white man or woman has did to these frothing idiots include some horrific white grooming gangs and they’ll retort back with “pakistani grooming gangs” you see them all over Twitter under news stories where a white man has did something vile . It’s pathetic and disingenuous.

Don’t know much apart from some comments on X describing them as a fringe communist party (not my words).

They're awful. Google "Comrade Delta".

The issue with the rioters is that while past events may act as triggers, their anger stems mainly from a perspective of ‘they raped OUR women and girls.’ If these acts occurred solely within the Muslim community, would they react similarly? Racism and misogyny are closely linked. These rioters are far from being our defenders; they are regressive in their views. Unfortunately, some problematic elements within the Muslim community exploit Western sympathies by playing the Islamophobia card, even mocking it, as noted in the BBC article. People are more concerned about being labeled racist than about protecting women and girls. This hasn't changed.

indeed. The “ save our girls” thing is dripping with racism, that’s why you didn’t hear a peep from them when the white man killed a black teen with a sword or when the white man burnt a Somali woman and her two kids to death in their house or when violent white men have went on various misogynistic rampages targeting women or when Lucy Letby killed 7 babies….etc etc

Thepurplecar · 08/08/2024 14:40

Are you suggesting these men were rioting to protect women and children?

Are you suggesting the asylum seekers in the hotel were sexually abusing children?

If so, you're wrong. The only connection is that violent men will use any excuse to be violent - I expect the wives and girlfriends of these rioters know that only too well. Protecting women and children, my arse.

duc748 · 08/08/2024 14:34

The Guardian has a well established culture of being far more concerned about looking racist, than it is about looking misogynistic.

Being, if not on the Right Side of History, on the Right Side of the Argument. because that seems to be the most important thing, and we see it everywhere. SM is full of posts from middle-class Remain-y groups, slagging off thick Northerners for raiding pie shops and being racist (and the riots are inexcusable, for sure), continuing to lecture Brexit voters about their foolishness, women for being racist about 'Western ideals of beauty', the finger-wagging is everywhere, including MN. And the assertation behind all of it,

"I'm a considerably better person than yew!"

Halo-polishing.

I didn't say all Muslim men did, and I don't need "reminding" of anything, thanks.

Lemonty · 08/08/2024 14:08

Yeah I worked with northern girls who were being sexually abused and raped but who were in the ‘care’ system. There were different men who did this and most were part of a group. The biggest failure was the failure of anyone to give a shit. Police, social workers, care home staff, councillors and MPs. The attitude was that it was consensual. Beyond that also that it was anything from sad to the girls being tarts depending on who you talked to. In short men were and are the problem.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/08/2024 13:13

Was it because of the cultural differences, or because these girls were primarily from foster homes (where no one looked after them) or from very poor families - and therefore much more vulnerable?

I think it was both. I don't see the point of denying that it was part of it.

If you want to talk about cultural attitudes, how about discussing how young Black girls are viewed in our society?

The Guardian has not exactly covered themselves in glory when reporting on anything of this nature. See their reporting on mass sexual assaults on women in Cologne on New Years Eve 2015.

The Guardian has a well established culture of being far more concerned about looking racist, than it is about looking misogynistic.

I was so appalled by their coverage of the Rotherham cases that I stopped buying or supporting the Guardian at that time.
