Just thought I'd share this in it's own thread in case it gets lost in the other one.

It's still not right what's happened but I'm pleased to see this, the IBA know she was cheated!

God there are some really, really stupid, men calling in.

Blackcats7 · 03/08/2024 17:27

I believe Caitlyn Jenner (who was of course a hugely successful olympic athlete and now very publicly transitioned) is a very controversial figure in trans activism because Caitlyn does not think it is correct to allow a blanket “trans women are women so of course they can compete in women’s sports”.
Nice to hear some sort of consideration for fairness.

I agree.

I'm unsympathetic to "what about how this person was brought up" arguments I keep seeing. So what?

If someone has been brought up to believe material reality is something else, why is it incumbent on the rest of us to keep up the pretence? It isn't.

He and the IOC are instructing the entire globe to keep up a false construct.

NO.

Indeed, once they knew (and I am certain they knew well before last years testing) then ok it might be difficult to believe and your whole life has been a lie, but we dont need to continue colluding in that lie.
You go and get counselling, you "reframe your trauma " whatever gets you to the point you need to be at. You do not go into the ring to fight a woman.

porridgecake · 03/08/2024 17:22

Is basic biology not taught in schools now?

Vanessa Feltz is massively TWAW. I wonder if this is giving her pause for thought?

Quite. If Mike Tyson had been made to wear a dress and Mary Janes when he was a child I wouldn’t allow him into women’s boxing.

porridgecake · 03/08/2024 17:19

Do people really believe that a female, in a rural community in Algeria, would be allowed to train in boxing, if they had not obviously been through male puberty? Seriously?

porridgecake · 03/08/2024 17:16

LBC I mean. The woman who is talking now is disgraceful.

porridgecake · 03/08/2024 17:16

Helen Joyce is on LBS now, talking to Vanessa Feltz about this.

I am deeply sceptical of Khelif's entire claimed backstory.

Me too.

FWIW @ScrollingLeaves and I apologise in advance in a sorry not sorry kind of way, but I don't think it's helpful to continue calling Khelif she, it just continues to perpetuate the confusion around the fact that this person is male and not female.

I think that they both will have known since puberty that they are in fact male. I also think that given they were tested in (IIRC) 2023 (and also IIRC there were other road bumps over this previously) they have known for at the very least since they were tested by the IBA.

I find it incredibly hard to believe they have got this far not knowing.

agree, just thought it was funny that ibragimova beat both of them. now i'm sad that she lost her first fight and is out of the paris games.
all known trans athletes are at best on the low side of mediocre men. if someone really good decides that he is a woman it would be a murder. i don't think these two or some other athletes with rare genetical conditions are in the same league of depravity as "lia" thomas but they have no place in women's sport. doesn't matter how many fights they loose.

Nor do I, and I agree and feel sympathetic, especially given Khelif’s background in Algeria. I am sure she believes what she’s been brought up and taught and told to believe about herself, much during her early childhood, no doubt in good faith by those who told her she was a girl - though coaches might have known she might have a DSD as time went on.

But this is all the more reason for the IOC to have clear tests ( no need for genital inspections, nor was there ever) and to arrange alternative competitions.

Oh and to add to what I said above it's a zero sum game for women because a few wins against one or two men will very quickly turn around into total destruction when more and more men get through as 'female'.

One or two males in a competition can be mitigated for a little bit but what happens when half the competitors are male, a third or 3/4? Where does it end up?

It ends up with no women bothering with sport. It cant even go underground.

There will be no grassroots womens sports in 4 or 5 years. Why bother, you'll rarely win against a man. You'll have to practice with men and boys. You'll have to get changed with men and boys etc.

We will collectively now try to regain womens sports (and it angers me we have to) and fail because this is only the beginning. Itll take a tipping point and we are not yet at that point. By the time we win, we will have lost so much ground. It takes years to get to Olympic standard. We will have to start again, gaining money, time, trainers, grounds to train in. All the rest of the stuff.
God I'm heartbroken today.

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 03/08/2024 16:47

What I'd really like to see is for all the male boxers to stand up and be counted with the female boxers to protest this.

I don't think it should be left to the females to self exclude as I've seen a few times, I think that could easily just lead to no women's sports at all.

We need everyone who stands for fairness and reality to stand up and be counted. Courage calls to courage.

The losses can be explained by the talent of the very best female boxers.

Males who compete in female sport wouldn't cut it in the male competition because they're just not talented enough to make the cut. If they could it's guaranteed they'd be over there where the money and glory is 10 x more than in female sport.

Female sport is treated like a consolation prize for them but brute strength will only take you so far in some events and against some competitors. A small number of women will be so talented in their field they can compensate for his strength by outmanoeuvring him in other ways.

However that doesn't take away from all the women these men do harm and the places, medals, prize money etc. they also take along the way.

They should not ever be in the female competition regardless of a few losses.

FWIW, I have been having a discussion over a long period of time with a young man who has a DSD. He is very upset and angry because ignorant people keep telling him that he is female. No matter how many times he tells them what the DSD actually does to his body, they just won't listen! Be kind! Huh!

She wasn't 'cheated' she was not as good as her competitor, whether by training or luck of size.

Khelif was born a woman, has female body parts and has lost plenty more fights against women than she's won.

This propaganda of the ignorant is outrageous.

A woman being bigger than another woman means she's 'cheating'?? Talk about a bunch of snowflakes. Must we also cancel Serena Williams for being too powerful? Simone Biles because her petite size helps her in her sport?? Any woman with PCOS who has higher testosterone levels???

I absolutely agree that TRANSwomen should not be competing against women, but this is not what this was.

This propaganda of the ignorant is outrageous.

Absolutely!

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 03/08/2024 16:35

I hope Datun won't mind me c&p her post from the other thread but it's a great response to this. She wrote the following:

And to head off the constant barrage of 'but they didn't win', 'they have been beaten', what does it matter,

By that logic we should only be excluding men who are really good!

And let crap male athletes proliferate throughout women's sport!!!

Come on, you outstanding female athletes. Fucking move over for mediocre men who can't cut it otherwise.

Honestly, sexism on steroids is the driver behind all these people.

Am genuinely not being inflammatory, but DH and I just had the same discussion, where he told me that she was always female. I had not understood this or heard it from anyone else, other than DH and the above poster.

Where can I find the information to say that this is due to an DSD and male puberty ?

Her opponent has a DSD. It really is that simple. He has a DSD that makes him appear to be female. The answer is that the authority running the Olympics have a proper DNA test done, AND publish the results. It's totally unfair to women to allow him to box against them.
