I have never felt a punch like this’ – Carini

Words fail I'm so angry, but by god she is brave.
Personally I feel sick and 'triggered' it reminds me of the first time an ex punched me on the thigh, I couldnt get over how much it hurt or the enormous bruise from knee to hip. I know there is a general thread on this but its so important it deserves multiple threads. I hope Carinis decision to stop the fight so very publicly makes a difference.
Meanwhile Khelif crows “I am here for gold,” “I will fight anybody, I will fight them all.”
Not the REMOTEST hint of sportsmanlike conduct.
I vote we write to VIiner en masse and lay some responsibility at her feet.
Actually EVERY editor, The Indy NYT WAPO etc
I am incandescent

I'm a regular listener to the trawl and really like Marina Purkiss and Jemma Forte but I'm disappointed that they mention this in their latest episode and despite admitting that they are late to the party and having plenty of time to research, they have gone with the "she's born a woman, raised a woman and her passport says woman" narrative. Makes me wonder about the rest of their journalism.

Helleofabore · 12/08/2024 09:20

“if Khelif has XY chromosomes they probably do have a condition that causes them to naturally produce more testosterone”

More testosterone than female people but the normal range for male people. The falsity is the comparator used.

MarieDeGournay · 12/08/2024 09:12

The interview with Georges Cazorla, one of Imane Khelif's 'entourage' in Le Point magazine has been a game-changer, pardon the pun. In it he admits that IK was found to have 'problems with her chromosomes' (his words) in 2023
Now there are only two kinds of chromosomes, X and Y, so if an alleged XX woman has 'problems with her chromosomes', it's more than likely that 'she' has XY chromosomes, and is therefore male.

Anybody trying to make sense of the Khelif, and by extension Lin, case really needs to read this interview first, there's nothing like direct evidence, in reported speech, from one of the central participants, published in an established, reliable and verifiable source, to cut through the nonsense.

Here it is, translation provided by eatfigs on another thread:

I don't think either of those two statements is incorrect. Yes, it was initially claimed that Khelif was transgender though this was denied by the IOC, and if Khelif has XY chromosomes they probably do have a condition that causes them to naturally produce more testosterone.

I don't agree. If I were to, I would see little to be gained by repeating the error in connection with MP's comments. And the second comment was about Semenya rather than Khelif. Incorrect either way and confusing the issues will not help the general reader understand Pinsent's remarks.

DM's piece is lamentable.

It was claimed Khelif was a transgender athlete now competing in the women's category, after she forced her first opponent, Italian Angela Carini, to quit in the opening stages of their contest.
…
Semenya has a condition which means her body naturally produces higher levels of testosterone than normal for women.

Why spread this wrong information that will only add to people's confusion and misunderstanding?

For clicks. To annoy both sides and confuse the general public. With the exception of a very few individual journalists, the mainstream press - left, right or centrist - is not interested in helping us or informing the public or investigating or correcting injustice. Just money.

I assume their lawyers have been all over it.

There is general caution with Fb pulling some pretty anodyne posts and affluent targets like the DM, well, pulling their punches. I would not be surprised if MN were to suddenly delete a lot of posts. Money.

Yes!

I hope that BBC make Pinsent's clip available and don't memory hole it.

DM and Telegraph already covering it.

I hadn't heard the term "bridgehead" before but that's a great explanation of what this "push for the extreme and then go from there" strategy.

https://www.britannica.com/dictionary/bridgehead

Reminder that James Morton was born female. Morton's behaviour is a prime example of a woman thinking that the men will exempt her from patriarchal oppression if she throws other women under the bus. See also: Serena Joy getting a such a nasty shock when she found that the rules for women in Gilead applied to her too.

Bridgehead Definition & Meaning | Britannica Dictionary

BRIDGEHEAD meaning: 1 : an area near the end of a bridge that is controlled by an army; 2 : any area that an army takes from an enemy and from which it can move forward to make an attack sometimes used figuratively

Excellent comments from Matthew Pinsett (spelling) at the closing ceremony talking heads chat , making it very clear that the IOC has truly fucked up and that it needs to sort it out before 2028. He made it very clear that fairness and inclusion are not compatible bedfellows when it comes to sport. Well said Matthew, good to hear it said so clearly and concisely.

Sorry if someone's mentioned this, but I am slightly heartened by the several female boxers who've politely protested by making an 'XX' gesture with their fingers at the end of their matches.

The boxing finals are on Friday and Saturday. Both individuals discussed here have made it through to the finals although they are in different categories (57kg and 66kg) so won't face each other.

So both XY chromosome individuals who are biologically men have made it to the finals and are guaranteed a medal. Sad.

Did the man win the medal in the end then. Sad that it's no point real women entering.

Ah, very interesting. I thought he said "it isn't DSD. It isn't trans" thank you.

In today’s IOC – Paris 2024 press briefing, IOC President Bach said:
“But I repeat, here, this is not a DSD case, this is about a woman taking part in a women’s competition, and I think I have explained this many times.”

Sorry for the DM link. What I don't understand is that in the video, Bach specifically says this is not a DSD case. How come?

He corrected afterwards and said he'd meant it wasn't a trans case- pretty much confirming that it is a DSD case.
