Please help me here, are there any men (trans women) competing in the biological women's events in the Olympics games in Paris?
Some people say there are and others are saying there are none.
Hopefully common sense prevails and fair sport for women is being upheld at this games.

I wonder if FIFA will be forced to issue that 'reviewed' policy any time soon because 2 years ago it announced it was going to review the policy and so far nothing. There also has been nothing said by any organisation about the consultation that I can find.

@NotBadConsidering

How did Banda fail the female sex verification test if Banda has something like CAH and is 46XX?

I already said I don't know that. If you do, post your source.

SinnerBoy · 28/07/2024 07:25

MessinaBloom · Today 05:34

If that's so, and it's well known, you should be able to post a source?

Fuck me, have you got cramp in your Google finger?

Barbra Banda's inclusion in the Women's World Cup, despite a previous failed gender test, underscores FIFA's acknowledgment of internal investigations conducted by participating teams

This decision comes despite her previous failed gender test, which had led to her exclusion from the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

They mean sex, not gender. Just look at him.

Sorry, I just saw Caster Semenya and obviously didn't read it properly. So used to people also saying the same about Caster despite all evidence!

NotBadConsidering · 28/07/2024 06:47

Thank you @TheKneesOfTheBees - but we're discussing Barbra Banda in particular?

TheKneesOfTheBees · 28/07/2024 06:00

How about this from the BBC @MessinaBloom:

"It was in the Cas ruling that Semenya's specific DSD was confirmed as 46 XY 5-ARD (5-alpha-reductase deficiency). People with this particular DSD have the male XY chromosomes. Some are assigned female or male at birth depending on their external genitalia.

"Semenya told BBC Sport that she was "born without a uterus" and born "with internal testicles" and said: "I am a woman and have a vagina".

"Cas said athletes like Semenya with 5-ARD have "circulating testosterone at the level of the male 46 XY population and not at the level of the female 46 XX population", which gives them "a significant sporting advantage over 46 XX female athletes".

It's well known that he has 5-ARD and he has natural testosterone levels far and away in excess of what any female is capable of producing. Just like Caster Semanya.

If that's so, and it's well known, you should be able to post a source?

NotBadConsidering · 28/07/2024 04:29

MessinaBloom · 28/07/2024 01:52

How can you know what genitalia this person possesses? Were you present at the birth? Could Banda possibly be a female with a DSD?

Babies born with congenital adrenal hyperplasia have high testosterone levels. Additionally, they can present with abnormalities of genitalia. This is the congenital disease I was indicating before. I don't know that this would necessarily be a bar to a sufferer becoming an athlete.

Anyway, if you have a source better than mine, please post it.

If Banda was a female with 46XX and CAH then Banda would have passed the female sex verification test and not be required to suppress testosterone to compete. I have said this several times.

How did Banda fail the test if your theory is correct?

xx chromosomes isn't sufficient to qualify as a female either.

It's the sole qualification for being female.

I don't enjoy the deliberate smearing of female athletes like this. You do yourselves no favours.

It's evident that you don't have the first idea of what you're talking about.

Banda is not being smeared, he is a man with a DSD. He has male, XY chromosomes. He has an undeveloped penis and undescended, yet fully functioning testes, which produce testosterone at normal, male levels.

Having an undeveloped penis does not make him female in any way, shape or form. Just because FIFA haven't bothered to take note of biomedical scientists, it doesn't follow that Banda is a woman.

Edited for a typo

@SabrinaThwaite - she was mentioned by the commentator, so I assumed Mboma was there.

I think other posters have said that the commentators mentioned that Mboma hadn’t qualified? I didn’t see it myself (gave up at Finland).

ditalini · 27/07/2024 21:49

Banda, Mboma and Semanya are important because they are as close physically to a post-pubertal transwomen as you get in nature.

If you accept in female competition someone AFAB who has xy chromosomes, a functioning sry gene, sensitivity to testosterone, and functional testes producing that testosterone, then what's stopping you accepting someone AMAB with all of those things who had their penis removed surgically and now looks superficially feminine? It's the same.

It's a shame for those individuals who have clearly been used by others, but they are also continuing to be used by others as a trojan horse to allow men to compete in women's sport.

Yes. This.

mitogoshi · 27/07/2024 21:47

Oh and some sports have renamed the men's event as the open event so anyone can take part including transmen, the women's events haven't changed the qualification only natal women who have never taken hormones or those who never gone through male puberty and hormones below x

mitogoshi · 27/07/2024 21:42

Who can compete is down to each sport's governing body. Most have rules based on not having gone through male puberty plus testosterone below a certain threshold (this is cover rare genuine unusual situations) xx chromosomes isn't sufficient to qualify as a female either.

She was on the boat last night, so must have.

Are you sure?

Team Namibia only has 4 athletes. Mboma isn’t on the list.

That is absolutely shocking. And by the rules of the IOC, this fact should not even get reported? Imagine being a female boxer put in a match against one of them. What an outrageous thing to do.

@SabrinaThwaite

Can you explain how a female could exhibit male levels of testosterone?

Congenital diseases, even PCOS, some tumours.

If this was the case, how could they be fit enough to be an Olympian?!

outdamnedspots · 27/07/2024 21:25

Banda: The Guardian said: 'But in a shock for Banda, she did not meet gender DSD (differences in sex development) rules, set by the Confederation of African Football (Caf), before the tournament. Banda was, according to its rules, ineligible because her testosterone levels were said to be above Caf’s permitted limit.'

Banda is a male with a DSD.

No woman EVER has had such high testosterone that she has had to have it reduced!!!

There are about four or five trans people taking part.

Who?
