This is crazy. I think he was talking about of his ass. I don't think they ever have had any intent to make this happen.

I will certainly be very very very pleased to be wrong if he comes anywhere close to succeeding on this commitment.

Ah yes, I forgot the approved feminist dogma, I was just describing actual people's relationships.

There are a lot of people in the world, and they do things for a lot of different reasons. I'm really not interested in your reductive bs.

Same.
This idea that men are trying to do the best for their children by walking away from them is straight out of the MRA playbook. I'd expect better from you, you make quite a lot of good points on many topics.

OK. Maybe let's give them a bit longer than 3 weeks before we decide shall we?

CassieMaddox · 24/07/2024 11:30

I am not sure I agree. I have a twenty year old son and the amount of anti-woman Incel type content he's been pushed on social media is unbelievable. It really does feel like radicalisation and I've had to have a lot of conversations I really don't want to have (about sex, porn, relationships) to try to counter it.

The type of stuff I mean is:

  • endless videos about "false allegations of rape"
  • scaremongering about the "kill all men" feminist movement and how feminists are actually killing men and causing them to commit suicide
  • Andrew Tate-esque nonsense about how women are prioritised and protected over men
  • videos purporting to be asking men and women "the same question" apparently showing that women hold men to different standards, that on deeper analysis turn out to be bollocks. E.g. the one he showed me, the question was "your partner tells you you've gained weight and they no longer find you attractive, what do you do?" The majority of women said they'd tell him to do one. The majority of men said they'd lose weight for the woman they loved. My son called me to show me this proves women are worse partners than men. On researching, a vital part of the question was missed. The question asked of women was "You've recently had a baby and...".

I'm sick of it. I'm not sure who is/are behind these campaigns but it's a huge problem that isn't going to be solved purely by policing and is fucking our sons up.

"Men who hate women" by Laura Bates is good on this.

A single term, I believe. So five years.

Yeah I did. It is amazing the dots people will connect.

I mean, Freakonomics isn't exactly considered a reliable bit of analysis, is it. He's all over the place.

😮

Quite an anti-feminist post there.

Many men "back off" because parenting is hard work, and they see it as "womens work" and don't feel particularly compelled to do it (or pay for it in lots of cases).
Jeepers.

Looking forward to Kier Starmer halving the rate of MVAW. I wonder what his timescale is?

Within a decade so no rush really

Any comment from Jess Phillips on this yet?

It is a national emergency, it is a threat to our security and prosperity. I'm glad the Government in every department will finally treat it as such and today's report show policing recognising this too. This cannot simply be words. Deeds is what will count.

Has everyone seen the story today about Falaq Babar? She was an 11 year old girl who died after being hit by her adult half-brother. Looks like she had locked herself in a bathroom to get away from him and he forced his way in. He's not even being prosecuted despite admitting he hit her in text messages. Her family have not co-operated with the police investigation and the CPS are saying she had an underlying health issue which complicates the situation. An adult man hit a female child and he isn't even seeing the inside of a court.

So many girls and women flee to the bathroom in difficult circumstances as a place of refuge. And were her young siblings in there with her? The child witnesses to whom the Police can't speak?

I don't understand why SS haven't intervened? Does this again depend upon parental permission to speak to the young children?

Will this mean Falaq Babar isn't officially included on Counting Dead Women?

That’s bizarre. Where’s the logic in not charging him with manslaughter? It should be irrelevant that she has complex health issues. And it should be for a jury to decide not the CPS. Surely they will have to review the decision not to charge him with something.

No one cares about women or children. Especially female children. Until we take up arms and form a women's militia and start killing our persecutors they won't fucking care.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 24/07/2024 07:06

I saw that story. I can't fathom it.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 23/07/2024 23:06

@SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice the CSEW official statistics you keep posting appear to be for all violent crime. This thread is specifically about violent crime against women. Obviously one is a subset of the other, but they're not the same thing - other types of violent crime almost certainly have a different set of causes and trends wont necessarily move in the same direction.

But regardless of the difference between datasets, or the trends over time, I presume we can agree that the number of crimes recorded by the police is very likely to be lower than the real total.

Therefore the numbers in the report are the absolute minimum number of crimes being committed now. And those numbers are horrific.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 23/07/2024 19:58

Nothing in this is new (data is from last five years) or surprising. Both the police and PCCs/Mayors are under legal obligation to respond to the Strategic Policing Requirement which has always had sexual crime against children in it and was recently updated to include VAWG. Both are strategic threats to which a police and political response is legally required.

So why now? Sceptically this could be a pitch for funding from the police to government. Which would mean they've held off until now and for the last few years in highlighting this issue. Which would mean avoidable harm has happened while they play politics.

And the element about children on children is also not new and continues to be utterly horrifying. THIS should form a cross-party wake-up call and collective decision to FINALLY ban smartphones and unfettered access to the internet for under 18s, as well as to make porn much harder to access. I seriously, seriously doubt that will happen though.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 23/07/2024 18:12

It might have worked…..actual number of violent crimes have gone down.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Food for thought.

EasternStandard · 23/07/2024 19:06

What do you think is behind this @SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice ?

Is it to establish figures then show later they have dropped

I get Labour will be establishing narrative

It is to seriously tackle the increase in crimes reported, to open cases, to investigate, arrest, try and hopefully convict. (All the crimes I talk about below are violent crimes)

We don’t want the # of crimes reported to decrease, we want them to go up until they match the total # of crimes.

Why? Because the total # of crimes is decreasing, but there is still a gap between total # of crimes and the # of crimes reported. This gap is the # of unreported crimes.

We are in an environment where the total number of crimes is decreasing but more of them are being reported to the police.

We also want the total # of crimes to keep decreasing. The more reports that result in convictions, the more this will happen as the chance a violent man will get away with it gets less and less likely.

EasternStandard · 23/07/2024 19:06

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 23/07/2024 18:59

The discrepancy is well known and documented.

The police data shows the number of crimes reported to the police.

The CSEW data shows the number of crimes reported to the police AND the number of crimes not reported to the police.

CassieMaddox · 23/07/2024 19:02

Although I tend to agree this is a pitch for ££ from a government with a strategy to reduce VAWG. But that's a good thing.

CassieMaddox · 23/07/2024 19:01

RedToothBrush · 23/07/2024 18:50

So that could mean abusive men are being more abusive, not that there are more abusive men. Which makes sense in some ways.

Or a higher percentage of abused women are actually reporting it.

Well, not really as then the crime numbers would go up.
The only way the numbers are falling is if the number of men having crimes reported against them is decreasing but each abusive man is being arrested more. I think.
