Jolyon jumps the shark - is trans a cult?

Jolyon 'fox killer' Maugham has been on one for 6 days straight now. It all started with Streeting's PBs ban and ratcheted up when JoMo sent Streeting a list of 25 questions which Streeting ignored - and on a Sunday too. As of yesterday JoMo, a KC (though Guido Fawkes reported his licence expired in May), was encouraging people to break the law by accessing banned PB drugs from abroad. As of today he has well and truly jumped the shark with the below, horrible post on X.

My question to this board is why do TRAs feel the need to ratchet up the emotional temperature of the debate so high? Why do they so quickly devolve the conversation to death and suicide? It's an ugly strain that runs right through all TRA talking points. I personally think TRA is an eschatological cult and the focus on death is a intrinsic part of that. Others may think it's all about emotional blackmail.

Either way, please use this thread to discuss JoMo, Streeting's unaccounably cruel ignoring of him, and TRA emotional hysteria / threats in general at this crucial time just after the PB ban was announced.

EDIT - could not upload the screenshot of JoMo's post but it reads as follows:

"And don't underestimate the political tail of Wes Streeting's decision. His colleagues will slowly be coming to terms with him locking them into a future of bereaved parents tipping ashes outside Number 10 and a revival of mass die-ins wherever they go."

Our daughter has no recollection of living as male, as this has not reflected her lived reality for the last 10 years, since age four. It is not a reality we, or she, would have chosen, but it is one we have come to accept and defend, because the alternative would have undoubtedly caused her harm. As professionals, practicing in social work and emergency medicine, we are well-versed in informed decision-making and risk management, and we have always been careful, curious, open-minded and questioning in our approach to parenting a trans child.

That's so sad. It's like the David Reimer case, appalling that they would choose to do this to their child.

SpanielintheWorks · 18/07/2024 14:04

Are they genuinely saying they transitioned a child too young to know or to remember his sex? How is that informed consent to whatever happens next? How on earth can they justify the shock it will be when that child realises he isn't actually a girl?

God, no wonder parents head for the puberty blockers to put off the truth

Who would have access to those figures, Mrs O?

All Serious Case Reviews (now renamed) are published nationally. My guess is that there are also a range of other data sources via the NHS, Coroners, local & national government sources:

Here's the national Standard Operating Procedures for child deaths:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/637f759bd3bf7f154876adbd/child-death-review-statutory-and-operational-guidance-england.pdf

Trigger warning as this section is about suspected child suicide:
Section 7.4 of the above refers to child deaths by suicide and details how the review of this should work.

It's also worth pointing out that a Coroner's decision that a death is by suicide is additionally contentious as for many families, it's understandably preferable to have a finding that a death is accidental.

I don't know if the Samaritan's guidance has already been linked but below is their media guidelines on reporting. A quick read of this shows how appallingly this man has breached them and how readily he weaponises a terrible tragedy that can happen in families for his own political ends:

What do they mean by 'living as male'? Other than stereotypes and the reality of their sexed body, what is the difference between 'living as male' and 'living as female' for a child?

From the article posted by @Shortshriftandlethal upthread:

"While some people express their frustration at rallies or protests, others dig into their pockets and support the GLP. In the last financial year, 2021–2022, the organisation’s annual accounts showed an income of £6.4m, more than double the £2.9m of the previous year. The money is raised from 30,000 monthly donors giving an average of £8 each, and many more who respond to appeals for specific litigation."

Does anyone know the current income of GLP?
I would have thought that £6.4m was an exceptional year. An elderly friend of mine was a great fan and donated £50pm on the back of the Brexit litigation but stopped her standing order after the fox incident. I doubt she is alone, and he offers many reasons apart from the fox for others to rethink their generosity. Like regularly losing cases for instance 😉

You need to follow the amazing Labour Pains Blog. Obligatory for those watching the Fox Botherer's amazing grifting career, mostly built on failed cases.

Here is a link to spreadsheet up to May 2024 with income figures and list of the mostly failed cases - red for failure green, for win. He had raised 16 million till then.

According to Labourpains JM's crowdfunding is drying up outside gender cases. People have started noticing his failure rate I guess.

4...when they believe they're cats, dogs, horses...when they believe in Father Christmas and unicorns...when many are not dry at night. That age 4?

He has got even worse. The latest:

Graham Linehan
Maugham publishes a letter from a parent who transed their kid at age 4. Not sure he realises how most normal people would receive this.

All child deaths in this country are reviewed with a formal Joint Agency Response in cases where the death

• is or could be due to external causes;
• is sudden and there is no immediately apparent cause (including SUDI/C);
• occurs in custody, or where the child was detained under the Mental Health Act;
• where the initial circumstances raise any suspicions that the death may not have been natural; or
• in the case of a stillbirth where no healthcare professional was in attendance.

There are different reporting streams and following the initial response a number of formal investigations up to and including Serious Case Reviews (Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews).

It's dangerous nonsense to claim these are covered up.

Who would have access to those figures, Mrs O?

I know parents are supposed to love their children, but I find it quite disturbing how many "not their own children" children some of these characters are prepared, nay DETERMINED, to sacrifice simply to smooth the path for their own child. Morally heinous.

Ineverlose · 18/07/2024 09:47

I guess his kid is in emotional trouble and the family is blaming this on transphobia rather than disappointment of a failed endeavour

Has anyone yet substantiated the claim outside of supposed families coming forward? I have not followed closely after the initial claim of the numbers and that there were families who were making these claims to groups or more specifically to Maugham. Was anything documented and reported? Or was it just him saying this had happened?

Why do they so quickly devolve the conversation to death and suicide? It's an ugly strain that runs right through all TRA talking points.

As a young woman, mum was told by a man of her acquaintance that he'd kill himself if she didn't become his girlfriend. She told him to get on with it.

Two weeks later she bumped into him in the street and when he greeted her her only reply was "Still alive, I see".

It's emotional blackmail pure and simple.

Because these drugs and surgeries are so extreme, they need to convince people that death is the only alternative.

"We need to sterilise children or they might feel a bit sad for a bit" won't really wash.

EsmaCannonball · 18/07/2024 09:18

Well, I hope foxes have a massive shit-in on his lawn.

Beowulfa · 18/07/2024 08:38

I did a course on horticulture a few years back; plant biology is fascinating. We are surrounded by everyday examples of juvenile-adult development being manipulated for human benefit (regular picking of lettuce leaves to keep them in the soft, immature and edible stage; slow flowering species like Magnolia being grafted with more mature stock; targeted pruning to encourage young shoots etc).

I don't think children should be treated the same way as greenhouse specimens though.

Helleofabore · 18/07/2024 07:58

Datun · 17/07/2024 23:39

Where the fuck is the evidence of his claim of the massive increase in suicide since the Bell decision?

How can he imagine, even in his wildest dreams, that anyone can take him seriously with all this hinting, and suggesting, and the NHS is suppressing it, but fuck all evidence?

Child suicides are recorded, and available as public information, as far as I'm aware.

So why isn't he showing it?

apropos of nothing much, I personally spent an evening in the company of Jolyon, about 15 years ago. As to how or why that came about does not really matter but he was then, at least as far as I could tell, an entirely affable, sensible and reasonable bloke. I guess the mentalism kicked in at some much later stage.

Superficial charm and a firm sense of his own intellectual self worth seem to be how he has progressed. Underneath that, though, lies a torrent of unresolved grief and conflict. ( See 'Prospect' article above)

Shortshriftandlethal · 18/07/2024 07:44

SidewaysOtter · 17/07/2024 21:42

If Jolyon has a “trans” child, is he staring down the barrel of having to accept that he has not done the right thing in allowing them to transition? I should imagine that is hard for any parent to accept, let alone one who is making career hay while the trans rights sun shines and also - to go by his TwiX ravings and fox beatings - has a nasty streak you could see from space.

Far, far easier to double down and hope he can keep going, like the Roadrunner who has gone off the cliff and running on nothing.

He had a very troubled childhood . His emotions seem easily triggered - maybe some form of PTSD responses?

"Maugham’s life has been Dickensian in its welter of events. He was born in London in 1971. His mother Lynne was a student at what was then North London Polytechnic, the first in her family to go on to higher education. She had a brief affair with the bestselling novelist David Benedictus, who had been to Eton and Oxford and was considerably older. Benedictus disputed paternity but agreed to pay a “nuisance” allowance of £5 a week. There was no question of marriage.

This has become the foundation myth of Maugham, the campaigner who has the lived experience of being an outsider, who is for the powerless against the powerful. As soon as she graduated, Maugham’s mother took off with her baby for New Zealand, where she married a man she met at teacher training college. The family grew to include a brother and, after a spell living in Fiji, two Fijian sisters who had been rejected by families who only wanted boys.

By the time Maugham was at secondary school—“a very troubled teenager, covered in spots, very socially awkward,” he says—relations between him and the man whom he believed was his father were becoming unmanageable. He was “told to leave” home and was taken in by a succession of overly attentive male teachers"

Catsmere · 18/07/2024 07:43

Doubly offensive because of the complete homophobia of the trans movement.

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/07/2024 07:40

@EsmaCannonball mass die ins were a tactic used by AIDS campaigners in the 80s at the height of the pandemic to call for access to AZT and better treatment for the victims of the AIDS pandemic - at the time mainly young gay men who were dying horribly and in huge numbers and were oftne shunned and treated with heart breaking contempt by government and health care providers, especially in America.

That is the paralell he is drawing. It's massively offensive IMO.

If JM does have a transgender child you can bet he's delighted for the opportunity to grandstand as a voice of the voiceless and be a preening saviour for the most oppressed class ever . He's an attention seeking opportunist cushioned by wealth and a deep love of himself.

His wife was a big shot in some LGBTQ org that was consulting with the Tories. I found all the articles about her career back in 2020 when I became suspicious of his agenda, but links are on my old broken computer, and when I searched again I couldnt find them.

I recently finished reading Lethal White by Robert Galbraith.
I'm pretty sure JKR was onto Jolyon a long time ago and had a sly dig at him.
Meet Jamie Maugham, a "quite" successful QC with a smoothly porcine face who gets rilly rilly angry when someone disagrees with him. Grin

I'm surprised he hasnt sued her, its hardly subtle. Vietnamese garden in Chelsea, thats where the plopping apricot tree is😂
