Pornhub - ***MNHQ adjusting subject line to add that the thread is regarding Laila Mickelwait and her work***

Pornhub are awful. I remember reading a few years back a BBC article about a teenage girl who was raped at 14, which was filmed and put on Pornhub. She told them that it was rape, that she was underage, but they refused to take it down. It was only when she created a fake lawyers letter that they acted.

Poor lass tried to commit suicide during her recovery, both because of the trauma of the rape, and because her schoolmates were bullying her because of the video.

Many years ago I had to review the search terms on my employers Google white label to manage the functionality that suppresses the auto complete.(if you want to know why: we wanted to trim the list to ensure that we didn't suppress too much of the auto complete, as it's a very good driver of conversion rates). Truly an awful, awful list of depravity.

Sorry, that was my post and you're quite right.

There are much better ways to respond to it.

@Karmaisagod As dodgy as someone starting a thread on a discussion forum titled "pornhub" and asking people to click on a link and buy something?

😕

There are much better ways to initiate such an important discussion (Hence this thread only has two pages of comments...)

Do those of you who, faced with a horrific story involving child pornography (about which I knew nothing, thanks OP), insist on bickering about the suspiciousness of the link, the OP's motives, how her post was phrased, etc. realise how dodgy and defensive you come across? I would encourage you to re-examine your focus of attention.

Move on. This is so unnecessary

It's a thinly veiled attempt to bring attention to rape and child abuse videos being on a hugely popular porn site and how she's fighting against it.

You started a thread on a discussion forum.

If everyone was just posting links with no explanation and asking people to buy things, this would be an extremely dull place.

So say that in your OP?

Posting a link without saying what it is or posting your opinion/ thoughts about it is just lazy. If you care then write a sentence or two about what it is.

As young as 3???? Shocked and disgusted that any of this was allowed to happen on a supposedly legal website. Awful awful.

This is the link, it seems OP used the google/copy way instead of going directly to the site, then highlighting the address. I've made that same mistake many times, so I recognised it. https://x.com/LailaMickelwait/status/1810665850170696124

non consensual sex= rape
underage sex= child rape

just so’s we is clear

Literally Elons idea and he has taken down any x rated restrictions. Porn is where the money is.

It’s no secret pornhub has allowed users to upload videos of rape, including child rape for far too long. They claimed they were just a sharing platform and it’s on the users if they create or upload or watch or download anything illegal. New laws have made this argument obsolete. I fully support any all legal action against Pornhub and the users. Fines, prison,- throw the book at them, bankrupt them and lock them up.

OP you need to edit your title and first post if you want to be effective

I have been supporting and donating to Laila Mickelwait for years. It has been an uphill slog and a very brave campaign. Actually realising how rich and powerful the porn industry is, is terrifying. I have been meaning to buy her book and this thread has reminded me.

There are too many advocates of porn on MN. Even when you point out the horrors of the porn industry they’ll tell you that every video is consensual couples who enjoy it. It’s been swept under the carpet for far too long. People need to start making porn an ethical choice. If you watch porn, you’re contributing to this.

Why should it be taken down? Surely anyone exposing the horrific practices in porn such as non consensual sex, underage sex and trafficking is doing good work. The fact that Laila Mickelwait is getting abuse for doing so is horrific, we should all be supporting her.

That’s what I get as well.

Posters are right to be suspicious- weird looking links are not always safe, I won’t click anything if I’m unfamiliar with the user name, which does limit things but hey ho. Mumsnet have clarified it’s safe to click, people are just playing safe. Understandably.

It’s not a link to a random website, it’s a link to TwiX.

On the app, for me at least, the link isn't showing as a link to TwiX, so it looks dodgy. It may be different if using the web, but I assume that is why people have queried it.

Are authors not supposed to promote their books now?
