How many votes did they get in the areas they stood? BBC isn’t giving a breakdown of results.

How many voted do you have to get to reclaim your deposit?

There is a tweet of KJK's saying, "Typical, woman’s work," regarding Yvette Cooper's appointment as Secretary of State for the Home Department.

This is weird. Is it sarcasm or does she actually not understand the position?

Nope, you’re wrong. The trouble is that society is so used to women “being kind” that they’ve forgotten we’re allowed to prioritise ourselves too. And when we speak up for our rights, society doesn’t like it. And that includes some women too because of internalised misogyny.

KJK and the PoW are a women’s right organisation. Like many of us, they believe that biological sex matters and that it’s important for women to have single sex spaces where we’re vulnerable. They also believe that our voices should be heard and that our opinions matter.

If you don’t interfere with any of that, the PoW won’t bother you. Because their focus is women.

The problem is that biological men don’t want us to have those rights and when identifying as a trans woman, they want access to our spaces. And that conflicts with our rights. By insisting on trying to take something that is our right to have, trans women come under the gaze of KJK et al. They are NOT the focus - they are inserting themselves into the spotlight by making demands on women and insisting we give up our rights.

PoW wants to protect our rights. That is their focus. Women. We are centred, no one else.

Also interesting that you censor yourself for racist and alleged anti-trans words, but slurs on women you’re happy to use in full and freely.

Women are not given the same respect as other groups and that’s why KJK, JKR and other strong women’s voices matter so much.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/07/2024 01:04

Not sure if anyone answered the question on the deposit but in order to get the deposit back you have to poll at least 5% of the vote. Otherwise the deposit is lost.

No, I'm the hyperbole on here that a silent majority of women agreed that trans issues were their biggest political concern turned out to actually be a tiny proportion of actual voters. But sure if you want to see getting less votes than a joke party celebrate away.

The clue is in the name - party of women. That doesn’t mean men who either pretend to be women/wish they were women/who hate being men for whatever reason.

What are “trans issues”? And why do you think women would bother to start a political party, putting their own privacy and safety at risk, plus financial risks to highlight anything other than the importance of privacy, safety and dignity of women and girls.

Not everything is centred around men you know. Not even the ones who wear unflattering dresses, cheap wigs and comically applied make up.

Women are not a tiny proportion of voters.

Stop being bitter about the achievements of ordinary women. The “joke party” is subjective, many would say that’s the party who believe human beings can change sex, think that some women have penises and can magically grow a cervix 🤡

Christinapple · 06/07/2024 00:57

The strikethrough wasn't intentional, looks like a Mumsnet formatting issue because I used dashes

Just a slight correction there - they’re a party that is focussed on women’s rights. They’re not “anti-trans”. It may come as a shock but occasionally women are allowed to centre themselves, not everything revolves around biological men.

It’s not embarrassing in the slightest. If you think it is, you’ve misunderstood the aim, and probably have little knowledge of our electoral system too.

I’m not clear how offensive the word “Troon” is. I very much doubt it’s on a par with the word “n——r” which is what you’ve suggested on another post. But then that’s not a surprise as your side do enjoy being perpetual victims while simultaneously demanding that everyone panders to their personal beliefs. If you’d like to stop referring to us as terfs perhaps the favour would be returned - but you guys are never going to do that are you? Whatever you say or do is fine, it’s just the pesky women that need to shush.

I don’t agree with KJK on everything but I think that she’s learned to raise her voice because no one listens otherwise. I’m grateful that she’s willing to risk her own safety for women’s rights. Without KJK and other strong women like JKR and Joanna Cherry we’d be a lot further back in our fight to be heard.

PoW - I applaud your bravery and I’m grateful for your efforts in ensuring that women aren’t just ignored.

Let's be clear without any word mincing. The Party of Women's dominant focus is trans people. Same for the LGB-Alliance. I guess they realise calling themselves "Anti-trans Party" or the "anti-trans-Alliance" doesn't sound too good so they pretend to be about something they're not and pretending to be about women's rights or gay rights sounds like a good strategy. Because then if anyone objects to them being anti-trans they can just pull out the "oh this is a woman's/gay rights org so if you disagree with us you must be anti-women/anti-gay" card. Clever manipulation huh? Too bad most can see through it.

I'm familiar with hate sites such as kiwifarms, where you can expect to find trn, the N word and other vile slurs used very frequently (not in a joking or ironic/satire way, in an actual hateful way), and the sort of content that is posted on there. So yes, I'm not trying to say which is worse but trn is indeed a very hateful derogatory anti-trans slur.

As mentioned on another post somewhere, all the major social media forums forbid the use of hateful slurs (including the one mentioned) and may remove offending content and issue warnings/bans. That is except Twitter of course, thanks to EM just about anything goes on there now.

If anyone here is interested there is a women's rights party that actually is about women's rights- Women's Equality Party. They aren't anti-trans and focus on a variety of issues.

Yes it's a disaster for her, and must be embarrassing too to be a dominantly anti-trans Party and receive fewer votes than an independent trans woman, or a joke party who call themselves The Loony Monster Ravings or whatever they are.

Maybe it's a reassuring sign that Britain isn't "TERF Island" after all, and there aren't as many people with strong gender critical views as thought. And also good to see using transphobic slurs doesn't bring the votes in.

I see Jo Cherry is gone too.

I agree, standing for election was a magnificent effort and massive thanks to each and every woman for her time on this. This isn’t a catastrophe. This is completely normal in voting terms. It’s also understandable in an election where the mood was of many voters being really desperate to oust the Tories. Voters who had suffered under Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak might have not felt they had the luxury of being able to vote other than strategically, in order to protect the country and their families from further degradation under the future Sunak government.

The general public overall have no idea that the Party of Women even exist. They’ve hardly had any coverage. It's never easy starting a political party (.. anyone even remember Change UK?) even with loads of publicity and a fair wind which POW didn’t get. Reform are a new and successful party with the electorate because they have had shitloads of press and have a figurehead of years constantly in the news and social media obviously so without that level of attention Party of Women wasn’t going to be attracting loads of new votes. But it’s important that it exists, to help us start discussions.

KJK is doing a great service with this but this wasn’t the election for her. That’s party politics. Women’s time will come and there are loads of different ways to effect the positive changes we need from inside and outside of Parliament. We need to be using all of them to keep the pressure on. I hope the POW carries on.

Funkyfizz · 05/07/2024 23:05

KJK is the worse thing that ever happened to your cause.

mrshoho · 05/07/2024 22:04

Well done KJK and all the wonderful women who stood for POW. You all put yourselves out there and thanks to you all for increasing awareness across the country. Magnificent effort 👏👏💗💐

Ineverlose · 05/07/2024 21:16

So KJK used to live in Bristol and yet still managed to get the least number of votes in her POW. She couldn’t really have had a worse result. Tragically the general public will now believe that there is no appetite for Gc views. There is, just not for KJK

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 19:50

I would absolutely have voted POW if they had a candidate in my constituency and would have signposted to others. They didn't, so I couldn't, I imagine more will stand next time.

TuesdayWhistler · 05/07/2024 15:47

I think they did exactly what they wanted to do.
There's plenty of angry people this morning trying to play down what KJK accomplished, plenty of abhorrent people showong themselves suo by cheering on the bullies of POW etc.

Thees a voice recording of police officers talking after they thought they'd put the phone down.
Fair Cop have shared it I believe.
As well as the police being called for the leaflet.

RadicalisedPastThePointOfSalvation · 05/07/2024 15:24

If it was that easy to get a single issue party funded and seats gained it would happen a lot more. It’s bloody difficult in a two party system. No-one expected PoW to win any seats, it’s as much to raise awareness and show politicians that women care enough about this issue to put themselves forward for election and spend time knocking on doors and speaking to people. The women also knew they may receive abuse or people reporting them to their workplaces. Personally I think that takes guts.

I think originally the plan that money would be raised so no individual woman had to find the money for their deposit. I don’t know if that happened or not.

Christinapple · 05/07/2024 15:22

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 05/07/2024 15:13

It’s far from being a “disaster” for KJK. She got a bunch of volunteers together at very short notice and they gained more votes than probably expected.

We need all the strong and determined women we can get. I’ve got no time for infighting.

Well … that’s the thing isn’t it? They won’t be dictated to on what language they can use.

And why should they? Everyone gets offended at everything these days.

The word you’re referring to is actually a mix of trans & goon. I call my brothers a goon all the time

How do you think Farage would do if he started using the N word on twitter then said he "won't be dictated on what language to use"?

Oldcroneandthreewitches · 05/07/2024 14:51

Ineverlose · 05/07/2024 14:08

Yep @Ereshkigalangcleg I’m a straight talker just like your queen KJK. I care too much about this issue to see it being ruined by egomaniacs

😂😂😂😂

Shes not the right type of ‘proper’ lady for ya? 😁

If they can stop using transphobic slurs e.g. tr--n would be a good start.

I think for a new party POW did incredibly well standing 16 candidates and I hope mumsnetters join POW as members.

Regarding the number of votes KJK got I think local people always dislike someone being "parachuted in" and although she hoped it would be good for publicity I think for politics she needs to represent her own constituency, I'm sure she's very popular there. She needs to build up her local vote which I bet she could do.

KJK used to live in Bristol Central and her kids went to school here. I don't think she lives here any more but she would certainly still have a lot of personal contacts. I wonder how many of the 196 votes were from people she knew?

Christinapple · 05/07/2024 14:45

Hoosemover · 05/07/2024 12:01

How can we make PoW more effective? Is anyone here a member of the party?
